Thank you Lisa, as a new coookier and happen to live in 90% humidity, this information is invaluable! Great presentation and you answered all my questions. I'm also a canner and dehydrator so I have an Excalibur I use for many things, I just didn't know how important it was when working with cookies but it definitely makes sense!
Thank you! Your information is great to know. I am a new cookier and I live in Arizona. No problems with drying here. Lol! I would however enjoy the shine effect provided by a dehydrator. Now, I just need to find room in my kitchen!
Thank you so much for this video! I live in Indonesia, a very hot & humid country. It usually takes 8 - 10 hours for my cookies to dry. I just bought a dehydrator today, and I'm glad I have chosen the right one based on this video. Though I feel like I should have bought the one with the cover that slide up, because I'm left handed. I bought the one that opens like your cosori, realizing to late that I cannot use my left hand freely. But that's okay, I just need to be more careful. Thank you :)
Thank you for this very informative video! With the Cosori, couldn’t you just flip the trays upside down so that you would have a ridge to prevent the cookies from sliding off?
How long do you recommend leaving the cookies in the dehydrator at 95F if I live in a humid environment (Houston)? These are sugar cookies with royal icing.
I’m considering a dehydrator and I’m curious about the dual purpose of storage. Do you use it in the off mode to just store your cookies in a covered place? It seems like a great contraption Playa Del Rey storage too.
I do use it occasionally to let cookies dry fully after dehydration. I keep the door open to allow for airflow which is needed to dry icing through and to help it maintain its shine.
Super awesome video! I wanted to know if I would be able to let the cookies dry in the dehydrator with it off (after the initial drying process) ? Instead of taking them out and drying on my countertop.
Hi there-- yes you can! Just make sure to keep the lid off for it to dry all the way if you want to keep it shiny-- the airflow is critical for that and if you turn it off too soon or leave it covered, the surface will dull :)
Hi. I live in Hawaii and for years I’ve been baking little gingerbread houses for my little nieces and nephews to decorate. Some winters our air is very humid, especially during El Niño years and my gingerbread gets crumbly so what I have been doing is baking the gingerbread per the instructions and then let it bake in the oven at the lowest setting. I bake it until the gingerbread is crisp and all the moisture is out. My question is, would I be able to do this in a dehydrator so that I don’t have my oven on for such a long period of time?
Wow so much good info. Thank you, really appreciated, I learned a lot. I do have a couple questions, if you could answer for me or guide me to your blog for answers, that would be great. I live in Hawaii, its always hot and humid so a dehydrator is on my list, but I thought butter melts at 92-95 degrees so that is a concern for me. Also I noticed how thick your cookies are, what is the measurement please and why did you choose that thickness? Total beginner here and so thankful for your expertise. Aloha
Loved this informative video so much! Thank you! I do have a question...I don't need a dehydrator to quicken my process, currently a fan does the trick. However, I do need to get the humidity out of the air and while running the ac is great for the summer, there will be a point when it won't turn on. At that point, is a dehydrator the only way to get the humidity out of the air? I live 8 miles from the ocean in Oceanside, Ca. (Just north of San Diego.)
Hi Brenda, get a dehumidifier for your home if you don't want to get a dehydrator :) but otherwise, I'm not sure how else we can get the moisture out of the air :)
Thank you so much for this! It's very informative. Can one leave cookies inside the dehydrator when it's off and use it to store cookies for a while? Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! Very helpful and I purchased a Cosori dehydrator for my cookie decorating. My only OCD comment is that it’s pronounced Koh-sor-ee.😝 haha. Your cookies are AMAZING! I love the artwork and detail. 😍
so the tray issue with the metal tray not having a lip maybe get on to the manufacturer and explain how you use it and that a lip on the outside would actually make it much better for cookie decorators. Great information thanks
I have that dehydrator. I love it However I would like it to have its own stand like yours. May I ask where/which one u picked. I love the drawers under it
There are a lot of different ways a cookie can "discolor"-- I would need a photo, more details, before determining what the issue is. My guess is that you're referring to butter bleed-- in which an analysis of your recipe and methods might be more appropriate :)
Hi! I hope you are doing well, i have a question, I bought a dehydrator like yours. I used it yesterday for the first time, when i slowly took my cookies out i saw that some were smooth, but others were cracked and not dry. Am I supposed to put them in dehydrator as soon as they are flooded? Or do i wait for icing to set and settle first, then put in dehydrator? I am not sure why they cracked while in the dehydrator ☹️.
The cracking is usually from the cookies being moved prematurely or cookies sometimes settle after baking, causing the icing that hasn't fully dried yet to crack as it dries. Move them as little as possible. If the heat is too high, it can cause ripples in your icing (imagine drying it but also blowing air on it at the same time.)
Setting it at 95 is still too warm for the cookies and will dry them out. I get its all personal preference but I was curious what your thoughts were. Will definitely be using your tips moving forward ☺️
@@sarahdoerge1727 I believe setting it at 95 will NOT dry your cookies out DEPENDENT on how much moisture is in your cookie base and what you bake it at. It all makes a difference :)
I have a question! Not for icing but for making dog biscuits. How long would I need use the dehydrator for to cook them evenly through and what temperature? Apparently it stops a soggy middle in the biscuit!
I have a dehydrator and I live in Illinois, so it's pretty dry already, but I got it to dry faster and with less cratering. The problem I run into every time is that the edges of my icing turns darker. Last time I made cookies I only put them in for 15 minutes at 95 degrees. I assume the discoloration is from them overdrying but do you have any suggestions for this? Less time? Should I leave the door open?
No. This helps to dry the icing faster, not extend the shelf life of your cookies. If you want a soft cookie, prolonged use will dry it out, we don't want that.
Great information but that background music is so annoying. Your info is so valuable, why dilute it with the annoying background noise. I hope your other videos don’t have it.
Oh my goodness….I love all your videos….but when your talking and teaching, please loose the music. It’s loud and distracting and makes it hard to focus on all your great nuggets of wisdom. If you were teaching in a face to face classroom setting, would you have that music looping in the background? I couldn’t listen thru the whole thing. I had to break it up because it was so distracted for so long.

Thank you I'm a beginner and this helped so much 😂
Glad to be of assistance 🫶

As a florida resident, yes the humidity does affect how the icing dries. I have to let kine dry overnight
Thank you so much!!! Great detailed info, I’m so happy I ran into this site
This video is super informative and helped a lot! Thank you!!!❤
Hello Lisa Dearest thank you so very much for your teachings ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I did not considered the door 😳
Thank you! This information is so helpful. I love the way you decorate your cookies!
Thanks Lisa!!! You are always so helpful with all your cookie knowledge!
Thank you again for this!
Thanks for watching!
Wish I had found this video sooner, thanks for your recommendations 💗
Hi Lisa, thank you so muh for sharing your wonderful advice! It is greatly appreciated. Happy baking!
Thank you so much for this video! I've been wanting to get one but I didn't want to get one until I knew how to use it!
Thank you for watching !!

Sure can- didn’t realize that when I filmed this :)

Found a Gourmia 9 tray via marketplace on FB for $90! Used only three times so practically new! I am super stoked!!!!

I'd leave each layer in there at least 15 minutes and go from there :)
Thank a lot for your information. So helpful for me. God bless you 🙏
Amazing and thorough explanation! Thank you!
Thanks Lisa- this was super helpful!
This is soooo helpful! Do you find it affects the taste of your cookies at all? Are they drier?
Not if you don't leave it in there for hours at a time-- haven't experienced the drying out yet. But this is cookie dough recipe dependent.

How do you know if a silicone mat is safe to cut? I feel like the products on Amazon doesn't mention the materials in their entirety!
I live in Southern Arizona, how long do you think it would take in the deser area?

Hi there, can you dehydrate your cookies after you have airbrushed parts of them?
Sure can!
Hi, you said that your cookies need at least 8 hours to dry. Do you just leave the cookies out, uncovered? Doesn't that dry your cookies out?
Uncovered and no, my recipe does not dry out that quickly :)
Thank you.Really helpful video😊

I have the same question
@@teoakielowery402 quick little update, I used mine without the sheets and nothing happened to my cookies (:
My dehydrator’s lowest temp is 135. Would that be too high to dry the icing?
Hi Jan, you can try. If it has rippling, it’s probably too hot.
Ok thank you!

Never heard of this before so its interesting… what’re the ingredients in your dough?
❤
How long should I let my cookie dry or leave I dehydrator if I’m going to use a stencil (scrape)
Does a dehydrator make the shelf life of the cookie longer? Seen as it gets rid of all the moisture?
No. This helps to dry the icing faster, not extend the shelf life of your cookies.
If you want a soft cookie, prolonged use will dry it out, we don't want that.
Por gentileza, onde posso comprar o desidratador?
I have read of some ppl leaving the door open while dehydrating their cookies, is that necessary?
Not necessary because it provides airflow internally- but i like to keep it open once the fan is turned off
Do you respond to questions posed on this tutorial? 11 months ago I asked a question and have yet to receive a response
