- Hello,
Here is a video on the threading of a 6-track magnetic 70mm film print of the documentary "Baraka" from 1992. The print shown in this video is the original print that was projected back in '92, this was a test screening for an upcoming 30th-anniversary screening.
I know that the camera was pretty shaky throughout the video, but this was my first time filming anything like this and my first time being in the projection booth, so I had to try to film as much as I could.
I replaced some of the conversations between myself and the projectionist with the background fan noise because I wanted to respect the Projectionists privacy.
later in the video, the battery for my camera ran out and had to film the rest on my iPhone, which was shooting at 4K 30 fps. please do not take the footage in this video as a representation of the 70mm print of baraka or any 70mm print. when recording a projected image with an iPhone, it obviously won't look as good as it does in real life. But I can assure you, this 70mm print has some of the best picture I have ever seen, a lot better than a 4K disc.
as for the sound (which is from 6-track magnetic) sounded absolutely astonishing, especially the score that plays throughout the entire film. it's crisp, clean and authentic.
Hope you enjoy.

Movie magic Clark. Well done. Wish I was able to be there with you for the screening of the film next week.
John.
oh certainly! I'm sure there will be a 70mm festival soon near you, don't worry!
When I was training as a projectionist 20 years ago, I was scolded if I used the word threading. Lacing was the preferred term. ☺️
I will change the title right away! Thank you very much!
Then you were mis-informed. It's threading.
Is that the Astor Theatre?
This is the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace in Cremorne, Sydney.
The one holding the camera looks like he's drunk...
Way as well have been lmao
