The great moon bird is probably based on a Chinese mythological bird called Qing Luan （青鸾,）which is a peacock like bird that serves the goddess Queen Mother of the west. In traditional literature it is usually associated with romance and love.
Everything Cathayan that starts to dig into the mythical Chinese stuff makes me think about Jade Empire, god that game could use a modern day glow-up if it was remade like the new Dead Space....
@@SupercohboyIf you check out some of the really more out there monsters and creatures listed in the historical book Of the Mountains and Seas (it’s a real book but a mythical bestiary), a LOT of the creatures described fit like warp creatures lol. Like there’s a bird with about 8-9 heads etc
A legendary hero that is a Sentinel is a dope idea. Give me the army book GW.
Price point wise, I gotta see the rest first before I can make that judgement call.

What can I say- I am really, really proud of the WH3 DLC team. This feels like a new era (like the old golden age of WH2)!
Hag Mothers and Tzaangors feel like Gw choices so its fine to keep them mod only. Absolutely love this and cant wait to see who the new Kislev lord will be. If this is the level of quality we can expect SoC becomes a def buy
Agreed, the DLC wasn't bad per se. It needed more love and more content. I bought it and I'm happy they took the feedback seriously. Lot of love in this DLC. If Boris is the Free LC, then it's just amazing :)
The free Legendary Lord is 100% Boris Todbringer.
I would call in sick to play that campaign so I would be absolutely fine with that.
Well, he is already in the game (multiplayer). So the model is already in the game. Don t know if that is positive or negative in respect of him being the free Legendary Lord
@@davidjankraayveld7784 Considering it's been a community wish to have him and The Red Duke as playable lords since Warhammer 1 I'd say most people would probably be quite overjoyed with them becoming playable.
It's a very easy way to get goodwill for free legendary lords. Most of the work has been done, just need to design unique campaign mechanics.
I doubt because there are so many units that I think a lord in his area of the empire should get. I would like non-sigmarites.

Also yes this makes shadows of change look much more worth the price although still going to have see The Changers and Kislevs units and stuff to fully confirm (but I already own the DLC anyway)

Same. Hopefully there will be a hag mother mod, and it won't get slapped by GW for "IP mixing" or whatever. But these Cathay changes are looking really good.
@@SleepyFenI think GW is making a pretty lazy decision if they aren't gonna be willing to let people have hag lords in ToW tbh, and if that's that's motivation for not letting CA do it, it blows.
@@valeclaw1697 I'm willing to bet that they will let people have Hag Lords in The Old World, and because they exist in The Old World and GW loves keeping their IPs as separate as possible, they don't want Hag Lords in the "Era of Karl Franz" as they're calling it.

Before this change, I was only wanting one thing for Cathay out of SoC (it was the stupid drum because I wanted full melee armies because I'm weird), now I have a lot of things to be excited for! All of the new content from this update looks like a home run! New mounts, new hero, Legendary monstrous hero, new monsters! I'm pleased will be willing to pick up the dlc!
Alright if there's only 1 Hag mother, make Druzhina generic lord as shooty lord with bardiche, and make akshina captain as shooty generic hero with dual-weapon
I like this idea but it still bothers me that there are hag heroes but no other hag lords?
I'm curious what the Lord will be to justify it being "associated" with Mother Ostankya as part of her DLC. Seems like we're getting the Lore of Hags so maybe it could be some new type of caster lord?
But I would take some kind of Ungol shooty lord perhaps

Kislev aren't getting any heroes this patch since they already got the Hag hero in the initial release.
A cav centric lord would not be out of place for the hags as well.
I think the FLC LL we get in thrones is gonna be Toddy. It makes the most sense to me

I'll probably buy it when the update releases. This was the first DLC I passed on in TWWH.
Same for me. Felt sad to not have dlc, especially considering I really enjoy playing Cathay.
I also don't like playing factions if I am missing content so I have avoided Cathay, Kislev and Tzeentch this whole time.
Glad I stayed strong though and didn't buy before they made these additions, looking forward to a proper return
I did think this made the price point fairer, bonus info is that the head shape of the moonbird resembles a hornbill, which is found across africa and asia in various species. Specifically the crest and long hook of a beak

I really enjoyed reading this blog post. I think it makes a lot of good arguments in defense of why they aren't going to be doing certain things while giving us a lot of sweet previews and promising news on the future of the game. I am absolutely stoked for the rest of the year.

looking great gotta say the new sentinel looks insane. honestly would love the hotpot just to represent them as i feel they are important enough to be represented.
i really hope they chose legendary hero or lord depending on what fits the dlc release or is needed to fill holes.

I feel Epidemius may be a LH, to match the Blue Horrors as the Special Herald
To be fair, Tzeentch was in a weird place where heralds are concerned where the Blue Scribes and Changeling both technically fill the role of "Non-Greater Daemon with more authority than your normal Lesser Daemon" (I think which one of the two are even considered the Herald even depends on army book edition), so it could be that they split the difference by having the Scribes as a LH and the Changeling as the LL. So Epidemius could be either.

The Khemric Titan is a must though.
On the other hand there is a ton of stuff from lore that could be used as DLC material. Especially the construct side as well as more crazier inventions like Sky-Boxes and Sky-Boats.

Saytang the Watcher and another named Sentinel (Yangsing) can be seen on GW's Cathay map with their names attached. So I suspect we'll get at least one more LH sentinel unit in the future and I expect lorewise there will be 4-5 total.
This was more than I expected them to add, and I feel it is worth it. Especially with how easy it is to usually get the dlc at a discount.

Right, here I was hoping to zaangors of all kinds including enlighted and shamans.
But they can't even give beaks.
Well Creative Assembly could absolutely give Tzaangors beaks, it's Games Workshop that has decreed we cannot have them.
I'd rather they fixed Coatl than added beak to Tzaangors to be honest :D

Loving what I see. For me it’s seems to be fleshed out enough for its price point if the rest of the reveals is in line with this quality.

I don't have any ideas specifically for what the new Kislev Lord type will be, but generally speaking a lord that focuses on monster units would fit thematically and also fill a spot in their roster.
The other option could be a lord that takes cues from Ulrika, making them mounted unit/ranged unit focused, which would not really be in theme with shadows of change, but would definitely fit a missing spot in the roster.
It'd be more in theme than it might look at first glance, I think -- an Ungol Horsemaster or something along those lines wouldn't be out of line with Mother Ostyanka's sphere of influence.

Their wording could suggest that later on we might get a dlc focusing on the ungols? Also in their newsletter they did confirm its the lore of hags.
Oh good! And if there was going to be an Ungol DLC, this was sit. Honestly I think Kislev won't receive much content after Shadows.

Aren't there at least 3 other gods in the kislev pantheon @loremasterofsotek ? I'd imagine they could explore the domains of those other 3 gods and their potential affiliates.
I'm hoping for Epidemious as the FLC LL. The Heralds have always seemed to me like they are best suited to being FLC LLs. I also hope he is in Lustria, maybe give him good relations with Skrolk
All for the new content. For anyone that already bought it, this is an awesome added benefit; and for anyone thinking about it that likes these factions these seem like great additions. I wasn’t as upset about it originally tho so I recognize I’m probably in the smaller camp on this one.

It's kinda wild that Fantasy does not get to use the beaked Tzaangors when 40k literally took the same kit and added Chainsword and pistol in it.

I already bought it. I liked what they did with the Changeling being kinda unbeatable so it really becomes a 'sandbox' for shenanigans.
Look up a ground hornbill moon bird seems based on that at least for its face and beak.
I had thought Sehenesmet would make a good Legendary Hero for the Tomb Kings, despite being so huge. He could squish people, as well as repair and buff constructs. Saytang gives me hope that the concept is workable!

Im extremely happy with whay GW have announced just with Cathay alone! Myself being a big fan of Choas im very much looking forward to the Tzeentch article next week, as for what they could add im not 100% sure. Sotek if you have ideas id love to know
This is a really good start. It feels more akin to what we should have gotten, and I am hoping that CA takes this wakeup call to heart and keep this up moving forward. Normally I tend to wait for things to be on sale, but something this promising... hard to say.
More importantly, thank you for these videos. This helps a lot to see someone who loves the series be able to react and explain things the way you do. Keep it up.
Personally, I wonder weither its relevant that multiple units they presented here have been considered for the original release of Cathay and just barely didn't make the cut.
Like, did they choose them, because they were already almost finished and they would have taken longer for 4.2 otherwise?
I guess it makes sense to be attentive weither Kislev and Tzeentch will also get multiple units which were "already almost done".
@loremasterofsotek What if the FLC lord is actually Kanker Flett, a skaven from Clan Pestilens who worships Nurgle. He'd have a really interesting model too. Wouldn't need lots of units because Skaven are fairly well fleshed out so makes a good choice for a FLC. Some unique campaign mechanics, perhaps access to a couple of nurgle units and a few nurgley spells. Start position in Middenstag but with an under-empire already in place for Middenheim
I'd love the Great Moon Bird actually being a mount that's activated with a bound ability to your Lord/Hero, and only lasts a few minutes in battle.
As someone who doesn't know much about lore, seeing a Monstrous forest creature as a lord would be cool
I called it a Gundam as soon as I saw it. :) Glad I wasn't the only one. And that Lion is AMAZING. I'm sorely tempted to buy that new Cities of Sigmar Lion JUST to paint it like that. I think maybe the Kislev Lord will be an Ungol Lord or an Akshina Lord. Either would be good. I'm super excited to dive back into these factions with the update. I plated Cathay and it was ok but I didn't love Mother Ostankya or the Changling too much. This setup is worth the money and I'm really excited to see what the Thrones of Decay will bring.
I'm very happy with this so far, and giving all 3 races a legendary lord, legendary hero, generic lord, generic hero, and new units and RoRs is absolutely the right call. To me, assuming all the content is well done, that would justify the price point. Making sure every faction in the dlc gets equal attention and equal expansion of their rosters is really important imo
So Hag Mother's are out, but it looks like we're still getting the Lore of Hags, so that's still something, and hopefully a modder will add them. But that does make me wonder: what is the new Kislev Lord going to be if Hag Mother's and apparently Ungols are off the table? Aside from like, a lord level Patriach, the only other type of Lord I could think of would be some sort of Ranger or Secret Police Chief or Beastmaster type lord. Also, nice to hear that we'll be getting an FLC legendary lord for Thrones of Decay.
A dual faction legendary hero i kinda have been hoping for would be Aliathra that both high elves and dawi could recruit
I definitely think any new daemons will be the major Harold's of the mono gods so we'll be looking at the masque, U'Zuhl, the one who isn't in a sword, and Epidemius
The note about Stanky and a unified kislev feels like they might be changing the issue related to her limited roster and giving her access to things without making that kind of contact. Doesn't really change the issue of her start position, but at least there's that.

@36:44 Perhaps an Akshina Ambusher in General form? Similar to how the Empire has Huntsmaster Generals. Stealth-like lord, anti-large. Soft guess but worth a shot.

This looks really nice, the only thing I found odd is that the Shugengan Lord didn't get a mount since they are the most important characters aside from the dragons. A side from that It looks great.
It would have been cool to see the Yin ones get Moon Bird and Yang ones get Celestial Lion! But the current set up isn't bad

This makes me actually want to try playing Cathay so I'd say it's worth it. Still really disappointed that they aren't giving Ostankyla an actual Ungol theme.

I like a lot of the additions I’m seeing so far but I’m definitely gonna see what they add next week before I make a final decision
I just realized that we get a big blue (slightly derpy looking, in a good way) magic bird in a Cathay vs Tzeentch DLC, for Cathay. Funny. Not sure how much I will use them, because I do not use many flying units, but I like them. Everything new they showed so far looks really good.
If the other units and the magic lore that good looking, I will probably buy the DLC once it gets a slight discount. I could imagin spending 22 bucks or so for it.
I think they're exactly what's called for if you use a lot of Sky-Lanterns or Sky-Junks already -- an actual melee flier to deal with any pests that threaten your lanterns.
I haven't played TWWH3 for over a year now cuz I don't want to get burnt out when ToD releases, so this news just hyped me up sooooo so much
Yes i think the format now makes it woth the price. I hope it's reindeer for the sled. I also want the ice witch lord's to get a sled but be pulled by horses. We are also totally getting a ind vs Cathy monkey king
13:50 Sotek busts. Some things feel like reskins just to include stuff, some things feel needed so far (cathay normal hero). I hope all factions dont just get the same reskinned units for the sake of quantity per dlc

Lore of the Hag is confirmed. If you log in to the game there is pop up about this update that mentions it.
I'm really excited for what they have shown for Cathay. Assuming that the updates for Kislev and Tzeecth are just as good I think this makes Shadows of Change easily worth the price point.

I know there are lore purists who hate the idea, but I'm hoping for Shard Dragons for the Dawi lads. The only thing keeping me from playing them is the lack of true monsters and/or cavalry, and the idea of a Shard Dragon scratches that itch very well, in a way that Rune Golems wouldn't for me.
Elspeth, my beloved, or if it's a hidden release, I'm happy for the Lahmian Sisterhood to be a playable vampire race
I'm curious if the new FLC legendary lord for ToD is going to be the original FLC hero just made into a lord. That would imply they have a toolbox (and are probably a dwarf). Unless they're giving us the originally planned hero and a different lord now.

Me thinks this is a fantastic step forward in terms of stuff that needs to be in the dlc packs. This is a huge game, and they need to have the dlc be huge in response to it and this is a step in the right direction.
From Cathay the only thing that I think is missing is a crow man hero. I'll have to wait and see the other factions updates before giving an opinion on them

Cautiously worth it now - I have to wait and see if there are significant bugs/balance issues with the new units, but if there aren't I'd say it's worth the price.

Sad to hear that the cross compatability of AoS and TOW is being strained, if they have to make a boundary that's understandable; have you already heard that Whitefang confirmed Chorfs into AoS yet?
I think Yang Shugengan having the Celestial Lion and Yin Shugengan having the Moon Bird as mounts would be reasonably fitting. But it's fine if it stays Astromancer exclusive too, makes him more valuable.
I think the Golden Knight and Tigermen castings being added to IMDB last month was precisely because they were cast just then. They're planned for future stuff, not SoC as it's way too early for that. I expect to see some other Kislev LH.

It's probable that the story of Prince Yuri and Katarin might've been more CA work or potentially someone else at GW that didn't get looked at much, as it was just a tutorial story that easy to overlook, and a story made for Total War. Hence you got the whole Ungol stuff there. Same goes for Kostaltyn which is a very new addition and feels like there might be different people who green lit what WH3 got for release and what's added now. That and GW cares a lot more about the rosters and themes than necessarily the lore I feel.
