BikesBeardsAndBrews Two years ago I rode 1325 miles from Nebraska to Florida in 20 hours. I noticed a hot spot in front of my head as you did and researched the topic when I got home. Only thing I could find was that someone said I may have a ROUND oval head and not Intermediate oval. I was like there is no way I have a round head. So I took a picture of my head with my cell camera. My head looked round. To be sure, I even shaved my head to make sure my hair wasn't giving me an optical illusion. Come to find out that I have a 100% round dome. That really sucks trying to find a helmet that is in my preferred price range. I ended up buying a Arai Quantum X and for paying tons of cash, that thing is the loudest full face helmet out of the 5 that I have purchased. It is a virtual wind tunnel, but it is the most comfortable helmet I have ever worn.
I mean all helmets I usually wear are intermediate oval including the 3 or 4 other HJCs I have, including the i90 modular and I haven't had this issue. That said I am currently working with HJC and hope to have this corrected soon
Uh... I think you have liners backwards. If you have a XXL shell and you want it to fit a smaller head, an XL, you need more liner to fill the gap. A Shoei Rep once taught me to compress the liner on the crown of the helmet. Hold helmet against a table. Take a rubber mallet and hold the rubber head in your hand. Put the end of the handle into helmet and press on the "hot" spot.
I've been working with HJC and they have acknowledged this as an issue being with the thinner head liners on the largest sizes, we are currently working to correct it so I hope to have an update for everyone soon!
Are you talking more about squishing down the EPS poly styrofoam lining in the hot spot area and not worrying so much about the padding?, that makes a lot of sense but these helmets are pricey
I'm so glad i'm not the only one who is always forgetting to strap my helmet. I have a ratchet strap deal attachment i was given I have to put on mine so I can do it with gloves on.
So that's actually an aluminum die cut so I'm sure you can with some dental floss though I would worry about what would happen to the paint on the helmet as it is a satin finish
A fantastic honest review! Love my D rings on my helmets it’s like doing up your zipper it has to click to be done!!! Since I am now getting into the FF helmet I gotta say the dark visor is a bonus, and with the clear for night after a long day … love that feature!
Good review sir! I see you have installed a Cardo intercom of some flavor. Maybe the Packtalk Edge? I put one on my Shuberth C-5 and love it! Don't know why helmet manufacturers get in bed with one intercom company, I won't mention any names, (SENA)! I have a Sena in my Shoei NEOTEC 2. I will be getting another Cardo with my next helmet. Thanks for the review Mr. Beard!
I get why they do it, it's so they can make a streamlined plug and play but yes it does suck if that's not the brand you want. That is an edge as well, I did a motovlog helmet set up where I went into full detail there
Hey, found a comment on fc-moto that got me worried if if rains. Is this something that you can verify? Bought 2 of this helmet from FC-Moto, one for myself and another for a friend. Both of us have been using the helmet for about 2 months now. A disappointment compared to its predecessor the RPHA 90S carbon. Pros : a much nicer and more "aerodynamic" shaped, Padding is comfortable enough for long distance rides, didn't feel much wind buffeting for myself as I had a relatively high windshield on my bike. Could say the same for my other friend who was riding a naked bike. Cons : wind noise is so much noisier if you are riding a naked bike without a windshield. My friend compared it to his AGV K6 and that was significantly quieter according to him. Locking mechanism for the chin bar gets stuck a fair bit if you try to lift it up at times. Deal breaker 1 : I come from a tropical country and we experience quite a bit of rain and they get especially heavy during the monsoon season, initially it was only my friend that experienced this at first but later on I did as well, water seems to seep in from the top of the helmet hence soaking your balaclava if you are wearing one. This came as a surprise and also makes one frustrated. No one enjoys riding with a wet spongy lid. And before you ask, yes we did close all the air vents on the helmets prior to riding through the rain. Tested this 2-3 times during a couple of my rainy rides and I couldn't find the cause of it. Deal breaker 2: The pin lock is probably a tad bit bigger than it should be as mine warped on one side thus causing the pinlock to almost fall off. Apparently the same issued was faced by my friend. So the likelihood of a user issue on installing the pin lock visor is unlikely plus it isnt the first I'm installing one on a helmet. Had 5 other helmet prior that required installation of ppnlock of which 3 of them were hjc helmets and have not come across this issue. So in conclusion avoid this helmet till HJC fixes the issues it has. And probably do a better job at it's customer service.
I've ridden this in multiple downpours, you can actually find the videos here. As long as the vents are closed I've had no leaks. Vents open, yeah it's a flood obviously
I love having the flip down just so I don't have to remember to have sunglasses and stuff though nowadays I have been using my glasses more especially because they're transition so it's not a big deal
Are you aware of any updates or mods to address the issues with this helmet? Not sure how they’ll fix horrible customer service though. Love the hops beard in the logo.
I've been working with the general manager over at HJC they sent me a new headliner. I just have not had the chance to try it yet due to Winter being here and they have acknowledged that the plates that hold the visor open were not good and they're currently building new ones to correct this problem. They will send me some once they're ready then I can test it again and I'll be happy to let you know. I really would like to see this helmet succeed though. I am still kind of annoyed at how long it's taken to get to the point of them acknowledging the issue and actually fixing it
I have a RPHA 11 Pro which fits perfectly. Do you think this is of similar fit/ size? I had one of the original RPHA modulars YEARS ago and it just did not fit right. The Pro 11 is awesome. Would love to have another modular. Thanks.
I actually made this comment before I finished watching. You answered my question. That is the exact problem that I had with my previous HJC modular. The 11 Pro does not have that. It wears like a dream. Gonna hold off on this lid for now.
Great review! I'm looking for a quieter helmet than my LS2 Advant X. I moto-vlog as well but currently using a cheap Panda mic. I can't hear myself talk with all the wind noise. Just wondering if it's the Hemet or cheap mic. I really want to improve the sound quality for my videos but love the LS2 for my mom's as well.
If you're on the highway and you find yourself speaking louder than normal, then it's the helmet. If you find yourself talking at a normal volume and you can hear yourself then it's a cheap. Mike
I like the double D ring specifically I can leave it closed and don't have to undo it. You pull on the small tab and it widens so you get out, then when you put it on again, you just pull it tight. A ratchet style o'd have to open and close every time. so DD for me all the time
I’m seriously considering buying one of these helmets. I only need a large so I hope I don’t run into the forehead problem. That being said I’m wondering which Bluetooth system you have installed because from what you said you really like the sound quality. Thanks in advance! Nice thorough review!
Honestly I would not recommend this helmet at all anymore. I've spent the last few months trying to remedy the situations I've had with HJC including asking to buy the XL headliner to see if it will help. HJC has decided to completely ignore all emails from me requesting this as well as either working to correcting the issues or replacing the helmet. I've bought several helmets from HJC over the years and always championed them but I think it may all end here with their absolutely horrible customer service.
My current Daily is a Ruroc 4.0 with a Cardo Packtalk Edge installed. It's a comfy helmet that I find fairly quiet though sound is subjective and I know people who do not agree. I have done 1K in a days with this helmet which amounted to 16hours of riding with an average of 70-85mph and I didn't have any ringing in the ears by the end of the trip so there is that
@@krakñ1k honestly I'm normally an HJC guy so an i90 is great for modulars though a bit louder. I'm currently working with HJC on the issues with this helmet so if this one does interest you hang tight, it may be a viable option in a few months and I know Ruroc is gearing up to drop a 5.0 soon as well
Agree on the issue with the visor dropping down by itself at way-too-low speeds. The whole mechanism for the visor is way too flimsy. As a matter of fact, on my helmet one of the plastic parts just broke and I ended up returning the helmet to HJC. Got a replacement from HJC but the system is the same so I am not holding my breath. The other issue is the mechanism that holds the neck roll in place. It really does not work well and, on my helmet, the neck roll dislodges completely every time I take off the helmet. All in all, I think HJC really missed the mark with this helmet!
I've been talking to HJC over the last few weeks and they have acknowledged that they made mistakes with those parts and they're currently creating replacements for newer versions of the helmet and for people that actually reach out to them. So if you do still have the helmet I would shoot them a message and I'll definitely do an update as soon as I have the parts and I can test them out personally
Thanks for your reply. I will definitely contact HJC and see if I can those upgrades. The main issues are the visor mechanism and the truly idiotic neck-roll retention system.
I mean that's all personal opinion but I find it much quieter than other helmets I've had and a few other sites have labeled it the quietest modular currently when using db meters while riding
I have one helmet like this on the video for the past month. With the top ventilation closed I sense wind entering on the top of my head. The last week I drive a rain and the helmet let water enter inside the helmet. Have you experience this? Thanks
Had exactly the same issue. Air comes in when vent is shut. Water entered at the top of the visor. Massively. Also the top of the visor rubbed? Anyway I got a refund.
Thats cool it can lock un the up position. I shrug my sholders to lift the helmet up just to get it off my forhead from time to time. I thought I just had an misshaped head. Now I know. lol Currently rocking a Shoie Modular
Iam stuck between the rpha 91, scorpions exo tech carbon, bell srt, ls2 advant carbon x, problem is each of those have one feature the others don't have and its getting as confusing as buying a new car!!
