Great video! Speed is pretty similar to a Suzuki SX4 1.6 I had. Btw, the car is not underpowered. It has a decent and normal power to weight ratio as many small displacement city cars, like 90's honda Civics. But people need to understand that gearing has a lot in play here. It's a car meant to be good at fuel consumption, simple for maintenance, and at the same time being able to go off roading (I've seen it going over really bad roads and mud, with the correct tires of course) by just throwing the 4H or 4L and release a bunch of torque. It's never been meant for going fast, none of previous Jimnys either. If course it's not a car for everyone. Many people would prefer a V8 and a bigger car. In my case after some very complex and expensive experiences with previous cars, I rather drive a daily car that is fuel friendly, able to go pretty much anywhere and have some fun, easy to maintain and fix (that's why I got one, in red as well haha)
I'm thinking of buying the red variant too...but I'm not sure if paint maintenance is a chore or keeping it clean would be difficult on a regular basis. Could you tell me your experience with that matter? Thanks a lot
@@LGMCR these are really maintenance friendly. Most of the paint options are not mica or metallic (the blue one is the only pearl color for 5 door if I'm not mistaken), the rest are just plain color with no pearl, so normal wash and wax would do the job, and maybe paint decontamination once a year. Darker colors could be harder to keep shiny and scratch free though, no matter if its pearl or not. IMO the red one is the prettiest Jimny, the two tone plus black plastic trims make a really nice contrast, and it's not hard to keep clean. The easiest would be silver, but it's a very generic car color for me.
Basic go anywhere type of vehicle. I wouldn't mind one. Speed in Australia is irrelevant anyway. Bad roads. Ridiculously slow speed limits. And getting even slower. A police force that ignores crime to concentrate on easy motoring profit. Ever increasing fines. Cameras everywhere to make the most of the fines. Anything faster than a push bike is overkill. These are good little offroaders. Again where speed often isn't much good. The price is a bit steep. And I wouldn't buy one if they left those road tyres on. 5 A/T swap, or walk. It would be even nicer with a bit more low down grunt. But I bet it would still leave a lot of heavy overpowered 4x4 for dead on most beaches. Weight is not your friend.
They're great little off roaders if not overloaded. I've crossed the Simpson twice in my 2015 Jimny. Zero mods besides removing the rear seats in order to carry supplies and a couple steel Jerry cans. I even run the cheapest highway terrains (Goodride RP28). Made it up Big Red on a day nobody was getting up and I'm talking Landcruisers, Patrols, Jeeps and Hi-Luxes which had been kitted out. Sure, I had to test that redline and get a good run up, but she made it first go. Did it again just to prove it wasn't a fluke. Every time I run the Simpson in the Jimny the locals tell me it isn't going to make it due to clearance and stock tires and every time it does it so much easier than the larger 4x4's.
The 1.4L turbo plus a 6spd auto transmission would make this a must buy for me. Not sold on the current engine & 4spd auto. I love the exterior and the size of either the 5 or 3dr. Just the drive train has me hesitant. I have a big car atm, but it's starting to annoy around town, and the boot isn't big enough for some of the things you want to bring home from a store. Folding seats on the Jimny would be a godsend.

Performance wise, this is a throw back to circa 1970. Needs a bigger engine and the auto needs more gears - and so does the manual to get that highway speed rpm down to something reasonable. Again - so 1970s small car.
My motorbike makes twice the power and about the same amount of torque. This reminds me of the first 1,500 cc - 1,600 cc’s when they first converted to fuel injection and unleaded fuel in the mid 80’s.
I love my 5 door, dunno what all the fuss is about it being too slow...ever heard of 110kph? Anyhoo, Ive order a couple of Ramjets from Rocketdyne in case i need a little extra acceleration.
One more reason that Australia is the lucky country - They don't sell this in the US where I live only. They want to sell us gas guzzling trucks instead. That vehicle would be great for old logging roads.
we have them in South Africa Gents - the 5dr as well - selling like hot cakes - they're the new chic, must have, in thing here.......Jimny drivers in SA flash lights at each other all the time to prove the point......
This car is very good for Philippine roads .Heavy traffic in the city, tight mountain roads and terrible road conditions everywhere except maybe in the express ways..It may be not the fastest but for practicality and fun factor Jimmy is a winner..It's expensive but it is what it is..Awesome content.. lol needs what 3,200rpm to maintain 110km/h? in 5th? I used to own a 2008 Ford Focus with 2L NA i4 petrol and 4-speed torque converter, 4th was over-drive but the final drive was 4.25.1, so at 110km/h the engine was revving at 2,900rpm but peak torque (a measly 185Nm) was still around 1,600rpm away at 4,500rpm, that said fuel economy was very decent with an average around 8L per 100km.
not a racing car mate - and that 150kw you may have in a car which is almost triple the weight will lose 9 times out of 10 OFFROAD to a Jimny - seen it with my own eyes........
With some ATs, a passenger and luggage, you would struggle to hit 110kmh. I know it isnt a sports car but 75kw is plain ludicrous. Overtaking on a two lane road, forget it.
absolutely love this thing - suzuki keeping it real
The Jimny is too cute to say anything bad, I just love them👍

I think you were referring to the 1.4lt turbojet from the swift, not 1.6!
Yes, that’s the one. I stand corrected. Thank you.

I wish they still imported them to the USA !! I still have a 1988 Samurai !! I love it !! Does it still only hold 3 1/2 quarts of engine oil ??

Not a fan of the chrome grille or the back seats not folding flat. IMO the 3 door still has more charm
Great review, just had mine 3 weeks and like you found that some of the reviews about them on here were done by idiots. Love mine to bits.
Underpowered…won’t get to a 100….can’t overtake….😂😂😂😂….all false…it’s not build for speed. It’s build to go anywhere. It’s quirky tbh. And love it
Excellent review. Very entertaining, I didn’t even need to skip any section. 10/10, you just earned a sub 👍🏽
Thanks a lot 🙏
All terrain tyres in that size might be hard to find.
They are tiny. I’ve seen a few (3dr) getting around with chunky tyres. Looks tough and would be a weapon off road.
It seems that the 2nd row of seats looks very high, and is less comfortable for long trips, but the first row is still adequate
You should also do a run with EVCX.

Never understood with the speed test comparisons. It’s built to go anywhere
Since this vehicle is offroad tyre pressure monitor is very very necessory.
Looks like a fun little car, but the price kills it.
Honestly, 35k isn’t too bad for a 5 door.

Would've been awesome and more worth the price if it had a bigger engine, or same engine with turbo for something like 150hp and 220nm.

Not bad at all for a small 4x4. Love Suzukis all round for good value.

Every car needs to be sold with a minimum 150kw.. You cant overtake in that on a hill

utterly no overtaking power
