Love the ingenious versatility of your shave horse design various attachments. An idea I had too. but was looking for a way to achieve it. You have inspired me that there is a way. - TFS and CONGRATULATIONS!
I love your shave horse and so I bought your plans! Really amazing how flexible it is!!! I was wondering, the head of the shave-horse. It's in your plans about 8 inches wide, right? How did you manage to get a straight hole through? I don't even have a drill that long and making the hole from two sides, I can't imagine I would hit it?!? And ideas on that would be amazing!
Yes but its in three pieces just for the drilling problem. The two outside pieces I clamped together and drilled at the same time on my drill press. This makes sure they are lined up and perfectly straight. Then I attach them to the center piece and drill in from both sides using the holes as a guide. Should meet up in the center.
Dude this is amazing! Saw your post on sloyd Facebook group. As a spoon &bowl carver, leather worker aspiring bow maker with exactly half a standard garage and outside to work it literally hits every single goal! Thanks!! There’s any way you could send over plans and tips id happily trade for one of my hand carved spoons??
I made the head out of three pieces. 2x2 on both sides that i clamped together and drilled. Then I attached them to the center piece and drill from both sides, using the first hole as a guide, to meet in the middle. Hope that makes sense.
Man, that is the shopsmith of shave horses 🐎

Did you drill all the way through the head? If so how did you drill through all 8 inches?
