How badly the smoke from wildfires affects the area near the park? Would traveling in June be better to avoid that?
If you have any kind of breathing issues, it would be best to avoid times that can get smokey. June is usally a great time with very little fires in the near areas.

I take your point about the West Yellowstone Visitor Center, BUT I think you are doing a disservice by saying that there are no worthy Visitor Centers inside the park. Granted, there are only 5 or 6, but they are worth at least a drop-in visit, with the exception of the Visitors Center at Old Faithful. This center is has exhibits, a movie, geyser predictions (very useful for exploring the Upper Geyser Basin) and a bookstore with books for all ages about the park: history, geologic development, pictorial collections, and things just for fun. Please stop saying that there are sub-standard Visitor Centers in Yellowstone. Don't let your disappointment in the West Yellowstone Visitors Center color your opinion of what is available inside the park.
