Those are great maps, I have quite of few maps from that series. I worked in Yellowstone in 85 at Mammoth, 91 at Old Faithful and 95 at Grant village. Also remember food in the parks will always cost more. So take your basics with you, if you can. Also meds, if you need special ones, make sure you have enough for your trip. Batteries, they cost a fair penny in the parks. As for water, carry at least one quart per person per 4 miles, I learned this the hard way in 91.

My family and I are at this moment are on day 4 of a trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons. We purchased the “ we’re in the Rockies “ travel guides for this trip and made plans accordingly.
I have to say that their guides are amazing!! There is NO WAY we could have this much fun and be this efficient without their info. Totally worth it!!
To give an example first hand today : We were able to see 7 different geyser eruptions with 5 of them being different attractions. (Got to see old faithful and daisy geyser twice) And not to mention all the countless amazing things to see in between eruptions, and all this in less than half of our day at the upper geyser basin.
    Tetons here we come!

Thanks for the video. Wife and I are headed there this fall. We are experienced travelers and we’re preparing for this trip just like we did for Alaska. My viewpoint of quality gear is buy once cry once. Quality gear will outlast numerous lesser quality crap so in the end you save money buy buying quality. Take care and safe travels. By the way, the Vortex binoculars are incredible. We bought them for Alaska and have used them many times since. Get the chest rig carrier to have them handy.

Hello again guys. Not sure if you remember me back 7 months ago. Yes !! we finally made it to Yellowstone. Thanks to you guys we got out of quite a bit of trouble.
After the very sad disaster in Yellowstone, we watched the news from Nebraska thinking what we were going to do in a weeks time, when we arrive in West Yellowstone.
As luck would have it the East Entrance gates were opened the following day, with our Number plate first in. As you shared in your video, no description can give you the feel of standing in
the middle of Hayden Valley with hundreds of hundreds of Byson in front of you. Or the roar of Yellowstone Falls as it crashes over the edge. I had 2 cameras going at the same time.
I had photos of the Byson to the tiny Mountain Bluebird, and the weather was awesome. We packed everything from T.shirts to heavy coats. Thanks to your advice, we had a wonderful time.
I have posted loads of photo's on my facebook page under Chris Demetriou London UK. You are more than welcome to use any of my photo's as a thank you. Thank you again xx

Don’t know if I ever commented on this video in the past but in planning our trip for 2021, actually starting in 2020 but cancelled due to Old Faithful Inn being closed for COVID, it was of invaluable help and I highly recommend it. Now if you are going more “back country”, sure, you may want a little more gear, but Cheryl & Matt really hit the nail on the head here and can save you a lot of time, deliberation, money. Thanks guys! You sure helped my wife & I have an extremely, successful trip.

Basically you need 4 days to do all of Yellowstone. Each Mountain takes a day.
From Blacktail Deer to Gardiner is 13 miles great long wandering hike.
Petrified Tree to lost lake to Roosevelt is great shorter one.
Bensen Peak awesome. The back side from lot TH is great. We just walk down backside but trails are easier.
The entire area from Bunsen to Electric is awesome. I go from TH to ridge follow it up. No trail. Come back on Trail through woods. Awesome ridge. Area. It Literally ends at trail juncture that goes up Electric.
I take large thin waterbottle to kill the horse Flys. Go ahead and laugh. 230+ on way up. Counted them. July.

Thank you for the great advice on what to pack. We are planning to visit Yellowstone this summer in June. I have been watching some of your other Yellowstone videos and have learned a lot. I don’t really comment but felt compelled to do so after this video. I just purchased the CoPedvic zoom which I personally think was one the best advice I’ve gotten for this trip. My teen daughter is very interest in photography and try’s to capture great pictures on the iPhone so this will be great surprise gift for her. We considered buying her a nice camera before the trip like the ones you mentioned but were not sure if it would be the best investment for a young armature 17 year old who may loose interest later. I worked at Glacier in 85 and would say bear spray is a waste of money. Pick up a small cow bell at your local Tractor Supply Company. Place on your belt loop and rattle when you are in their habitat. I also used them at Glacier last spring for many hikes. This method warns the bears that you are in the area.

Thanks for the info in this video! I have my Tenton/Yellowstone trip booked for this summer!! Regarding the camera and video recommendations, I'm a professional photographer and I wouldn't buy a DSLR in 2021 or a camcorder. Instead, I recommend one of the following mirrorless cameras - Canon RP, Fuji XT30 or the Sony A6100. I would pair one of the canon cameras with a 50mm 1.8 prime lens and one of the others APSC cameras with a 35mm 1.8 prime lens. Buy used if possible. Canon also sell's a really great RF 50mm F1.8 for $200. Cheaper zooms produce really terrible photo quality and I wouldn't recommend them. If you want to take photos of wildlife, Canon sells a really amazing and light weight canon RF 600mm F11 for $700 or you can rent it (will also double as a telescope, but you can take photos too). You can use your iPhone for all the wide angle shots. This setup will last much longer and produce better quality photos and video with room to grow if you become an enthusiast. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again for the content!

I’m planning a trip for a trip we are taking this summer. I’m a teacher too so I am all about a learning vacation! We plan to see Yellowstone and Grand Teton. This will be the first trip I’ve planned where we will be flying (there are 6 of us). My 10 year old was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes earlier this year and we’ve never had to plan so much for a vacation before so I’m a little nervous. Suggestions on where to buy bear spray there since we will be flying in. We are arriving in Bozeman and staying in Idaho. Thanks! I look forward to watching more videos 😉

Thanks for your comment. Always love hearing from a fellow teacher and thank you for your service. I’m so grateful for the efforts my children’s teachers everyday.
As far as bear spray, they sell it in the visitor centers. Grand Teton even had their visitor center partially closed but had a station outside selling it. You can expect to pay around $50 for it in the national parks. It’s also sold at gas stations within both parks. Sporting goods stores also carry it.
Me made a couple of videos on bear spray if you want to learn how to use it. Check them out.

Hi! New subbie here! I love watching all ur guys videos!! So informative! I have a question.. is there a northeast entrance we can get into Yellowstone? We would be coming from Cody, and I’d want to enter by Lamar valley. Is that possible? Thanks!

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  3 роки тому +1

Cody is the east entrance. Then there is the north east entrance by Lamar valley. If you’re coming from Cody, it’s a LONG way to Lamar.
You either have to head north to Montana and drive in via the beartooth highway - a beautiful but long drive.
Or you have to drive into the park, and go all the way around the upper loop to Lamar. That’s because the road that takes you from Canyon to Tower is closed in 2021. :(
