Not worried about narcissistic people anymore. I’m nice, but I’m not a pushover. I’m fun, but I’m not naive. I like meeting new people, but I’m not desperate because I’m also surrounded by kind and intelligent people. I have standards and boundaries!
The best thing I learnt many years ago was to spot the Micro-Expression on liars. You can't miss it once you see it.
Yeah, usually if you know someone well, you know their body language too, so you know when something is off!
Excellent topic. You did not cover 'women lying to women' - when my husband died unexpectedly a woman really helped me, and as I was such a wreck she convinced me to get professional help. 4 years later I had benefitted so much from that professional help.
I had a great job with an important input into the company and was financially secure.
This woman who had helped me began getting verbally aggressive to me, several years later she started to belittle everything I did.
I did challenge her attitude and was laughed at.
For the last 20 years her arrogance and belittling of me has got so bad that in Jane 2024 I told her I no longer felt able to continue being her friend unless she altered the way she constantly attempted to undermine me.
Never heard from her since. As we had been friends for 40 years I dread to think of what she is saying to people we both know.

Yes, my girlfriend of 20 years turned out to be a real user....I just thought that we were close until she wanted me to chose between her and my husband.
@@janiebratt8826 That is terrible. It was so distressing to me when a girlfriend I trusted just turned on me, as it must have been when it happened to you. It seems there are alot more destructive people around that i thought.
@@flower-ss2jt One thing that I have found odd; I would never take advantage of another person even if given the chance. Yet, it seems that some people prey on anyone that they can get the edge on. There truly is two types of people in the world.
@@janiebratt8826 It is sad when you trust someone to find that the reason they became your 'friend' is because they saw you as 'their victim'. One thing I have learnt is that you cannot be a victim unless you allow yourself to be a victim. It's not about 'fighting back', but just not allowing the person to demoralise you. Take care.
I finally figured out that a friend of more than 30 years was actually a narcissist. After reading "It's Not You," so many things that had bothered me over the years, now made sense. I sent the book to the eldest child of my friend and I hope it helps them come to grips with their life as the child of a narcissist. It's not you and the narcissist will never change.
The same has happened to me. A behaviour of a friend of 40 years became so intolerable that I can no longer accept friendship on her terms - which is basically me being a doormat for her to kick. I will try and get the book you recommend.
This book is really good. It lifts off the guilt one should never feels around a narcissist in their close circle.
@@valeriee8579 I will have to get it, I do not feel guilt, more like anger at myself for not having the guts to tell her 30 yrs ago that her behaviour was cruel and manipulative. Must get the book.

Fidgeting isn't always a sign of lying, that one could also show that the person isn't completely comfortable, & some people with autism often fidget, the rest are pretty spot on & yes, I trust my gut.

Cute haircut Frederique! There’s a problem with trusting intuition that a lot of people (especially women) don’t know about. Some of us are so low on self-love that we intuit a dangerous situation but we ignore our gut because we might not be “nice” or we might be “thinking too highly of ourselves.” One of the most important things is to love ourselves enough to trust our intuition and act on it.

Blinking rapidly is an indicator, too. Esp after they lie.
These behaviours apply to non romantic associations as well.

I was with one for 26 years, developed a stuttering problem with all of his 'corrections' of me and he emptied the bank accounts on his way out. Small price to pay to be rid of him.

I, after attending therapy, Realized that the person whom I thought was my “Best friend “ was actually a Covert Narcissistic who had been taking advantage of me my whole life! Thanks to God, I realized the reality and was able to break a lifetime of ties x

I don't realize at first, but later it comes to me maybe the next morning, just pops into my head, how certain things don't make sense about what people said. Or the reason for the subtle manipulation. Like why someone is going on and on about a really uninteresting topic.
Usually it’s delayed. Our intuition is first and our mind realizes later what exactly is off!
I had a shattering experience with someone who fits the description of the kind of person you described. It is a long story, too long for here, but he was an amazing liar. What I saw first, though, was a handsome, articulate, charming, intelligent man trying very hard to win me over. And he did. But he turned out to be an incredible storyteller - so many lies about himself. Dr. Ramani's videos and books actually helped me a lot to heal from this experience because you can spend a lot of time angry and embarrassed for being taken in. I, too, learned that I would never ignore the alarm bells going off with people again.

You have no idea how glad I am that you found Dr. Ramani and her book when it was needed 😊❤🙏She also has a great youtube channel and there are podcasts of her available if you listen. This wonderful woman changed my life! This is a huge power when a person realizes that "it's not me..." It's not me who is problematic, bad, too honest and trying too hard etc. but... But, my taste is distorted by difficult life experiences, e.g. from childhood , from trauma or, simply, having a lot of compassion has made you, like me, a magnet for narcissists. Narcissistic people prey on the best of us: people - sensitive, compassionate and willing to help. They exploit them and, on top of that, destroy them psychologically and often financially. I know this experience and how difficult it is. Good that you found a source of a problem and support. It's great that you share your experience and want to help others. It's not just narcissists who come back. The good also returns, multiplied. I really like your channel and I'm grateful for being here 😊❤

@@ms.frederique I'm so glad that you were able to help yourself.. I was stuck for many years, but I already feel relieved because I stopped blaming myself for the bad behavior of others. It's hard to believe, but I felt guilty when someone treated me badly.. As if I was the mother of the universe responsible for all the children. Narcissistic people have zero sense of responsibility for what they do to others. Their victims - on the contrary, may feel guilty for everything.. It's a huge relief to know that it's not me and everything is fine with me. Once you look at it, there is no turning back and you will not be manipulated any further. Knowledge is power and freedom 😊❤▶️
Unfortunately, there are too many narcissists in this world. This is a very interesting topic. If something doesn’t feel right then we need to address it. We should always follow our instincts.

We are told to love ourselves and be good to ourselves. It makes us question our own selves, but it's NOT us. I can feel it to the core. I have been friends with two top narcissists. I think my narcissist friend was having an affair with my husband and later, when I left him, with my narcissist bf. I got all three of them out of my life; however, I don't believe in just cutting ppl out of our lives if they occasionally hurt our feelings.

If someone's trying to convince you of a lie, they tend to keep their eyes fixed on you with their eyebrows raised to keep an eye on your reactions. Got this tip from The Behaviour Panel - FBI experts on Body Language. 😘

What a great topic thank you for sharing. Oh, I had so many stories that I learned to listen to my body and voice in my meditation routine and also signs from the universe such as if things don't flow naturally too many delays and changes, and canceling things that prevent me from doing things in that time I get upset but later on I understand clear that it was guided by the universe and it's for better. Frederique life is ongoing learning and each experience teaches or elevates our personality to the next level it's up to us to stop and absorb and get wiser. Thank you 😘

One guy I dated always put his hand up to his forward and touched the center of his forehead when I asked certain questions. That was always a sign he was thinking of a lie. It was so obvious I wanted to laugh.

With intuition, usually the body understands before the mind does. It takes the mind a little while longer to get what’s going on.
Had an experience with a liar where every time she told the story the details would slightly change. Inconsistent stories are a big clue!
Most people have told a lie at least once. You don’t need to be a NP to lie. Children do it to avoid getting into trouble, friends occasionally do it because they want to be liked. Sometimes people do it because they don’t want to tell something personal about themself. Usually, it’s best to say “that’s personal, I’m not telling you that”!

Here's the thing with Narcs: they lie for sport, lie when they don't really have any reason to lie (like the reasons you listed out). Pretty sure that for them it's a way to feel superior and more in control of you or the situation, in general. And here's the kicker, they're really good liars because they BELIEVE every word of their lies. Get this, they will never, never, ever back down from their story, even if they are caught. Instead they'll 'word salad' their way through some nonsensical diatribe as they condescendingly smirk at you. Result? You leave, wondering "What the h__l did they just say??!??!!" I know... I'm trying to divorce from my 34 year marriage to a covert, passive aggressive narc.
