    some may find it easier to stand their block up on its bellhousing surface and let gravity help to install the camshaft before installing anything else that will get in the way of reaching inside the crankcase to guide the camshaft. You can even do this dry (so your hands remain clean to move the camera around) and then lube it up once installed--then you aren't knocking lube off the back end of the camshaft.
    great video, glad to see these engines finally step out of the shadow of the Cleveland.

    Two things one I didn't see the oil pump driver in your oil pump and two on small block Fords it's better to put the timing cover on before the oil pan because the timing cover gasket is usually a little long on the bottom and you can trim it flush so your oil pan gasket can get a good seal other than that good job

    I just picked up a 351 race motor that's been forgotten in a garage since 2003. gonna try to avoid having to rebuild it but it did come with cork gaskets which has me worried.

    • @CrownRacingCo
      @CrownRacingCo  Рік тому +1

      I'm using a standard Ford water pump and timing cover. Make sure you figure out how your serpentine belt will rotate the water pump. Small block Ford setups can have clockwise and counter clockwise rotation water pumps. The timing cover also needs to match which direction of rotation water pump you buy.

    So I am also in the Metro Detroit area and recently had a marine 351w engine shit the bed on me. If you happen to know any engine builders in the area that can build a reliable, budget friendlyish, low hp engine unlike this beautiful drift monster holler at me haha. Trying to avoid shipping the thing all over the country cause I'm about 40% certain there will be a crack in the block. Plenty of blocks around but shipping them will be a pita. Free wakesurfing and boat beers included for any help haha.

    A couple questions...1. Did this motor come from a donor vehicle (salvage yard?). 2. Is there a prefereed 351W casting/year to start from? 3. Estimated cost to replicate this build? 4. HP and torque numbers for this engine? Well done fellas.

    • @CrownRacingCo
      @CrownRacingCo  Рік тому +2

      1. I bought the short block from creb engineering
      2. Yes. You want a 351w block that was made in the mid 1990s. This is because you can use roller lifters for your camshaft. Having a roller 351w block is more desired rather than having an older engine block that requires a flat tappet camshaft and supporting lifters.
      3. Estimate cost is around $5-4k
      4. My power estimates is 400hp/450ft-lbs at the flywheel.

    • @CrownRacingCo
      @CrownRacingCo  2 роки тому

      Check out creb engineering on google. Creb engineering has built two of my 351w bottom ends. No sponsorship. They do good work. I'm an engine builder myself. Creb engineering can do an oil gallery modification to keep the oil at the main and con rod bearings that makes the engine last longer. 351w are designed for flat tappet cams. If you run a roller cam. Do the oiling mod to keep oil at the crank and rods.
