- When you’re on the Surface Search & Rescue Team, you go above and beyond the call of duty to save lives. SAR isn’t a job, but a collateral duty done in addition to any rate. Whether you’re a Culinary Specialist or a Fire Controlman, you can try out to join this crew of dedicated Sailors. Every ship is required to have a SAR swimmer in the event of a man-overboard, so your service is needed all over the world. This job isn’t for everyone, but if you think you have what it takes, visit bit.ly/2O8NmA2
I was a Navy SAR Swimmer, loved the collateral duty, back in 1977-1980 it was just part of the job for my rate. "So others may live" Go Navy SAR Swimmer.
I was a Navy SAR Swimmer 77-82. I flew for the Seventh Fleet Admiral HC-1 Det.

@@martincombs2984 Martin, what HC-1 Det were you in? I flew Sar in HC-1 Det Alpha.
Flying and being a Rescue Swimmer was the best Job I ever had anywhere. 1976-1982. I have to admit that flying the Admirals around was very good duty. three years in the western Pacific Stationed in Japan aboard the Oklahoma City and the Blue Ridge going from port to port. Too many ports of call to list. Crossed the equator twice. (Trusty Shell-back) We pulled up along side a Russian Aircraft Carrier once. The Cold War. Like they tell you below, a SAR Swimmer is a collateral duty, but I was an Avionics Petty Office 2nd working on the SH-3A.
Extreme swimmers!Extreme warriors!
Go Navy SAR Swimmer... So Others May Live!

Im debating whether on going Navy vs Coast guard. Coast guard looks like they have a higher quality living standards but navy is offering me a huge bonus for the same job I would have in the coast guard.
While we can't comment on other branches, we believe the Navy has several additional benefits to offer. The ability to pursue careers on sea, land or air, opportunities to travel across the world, the rich tradition and the great connections one will make, truly separates the Navy from all other military branches.
Go coastguard. Their sar swimmers go and save civilian, too. Coastguard offers a lot more opportunities for rescues. I did navy, and I only had a few opportunities. I just rescued torpedoes and Oscar.
I go in for basic in 7 months then I go to school for SAR so hype!!!!
Lots of flying around ships - not a lot of rescues. Join the Coast Guard if you want rescues.
Ssheldon618 facts especially if you get AWR. A LOT of studying
@@Ssheldon618 Yes, around a lot of ships. I flew for 7th Fleet and I think I landed on 8-10 different aircraft carriers, destroyers cargo ships etc. No rescues, but we were a VIP detachment
Well your calling boot camp basic so I definitely wish you luck
how was boot? lolol
All the comments on military vids be like, I'm currently an aborted fetus. How do I became a navy seal?
Majin Perez I’m currently a paraplegic walrus how do I join delta force
ok im definitely getting some friends together to do this test, that sounds like a blast
I'm in the enlistment process in the Navy. What do I need to become a resuce swimmer
Natnael Tsegaw ask your recruiter about the special warfare program
Join the Coast Guard if you want to really become a rescue swimmer. Nothing against Navy rescue swimmers but they don’t see a lot of real action.
@@masonmiller1834 i failed the asvab
@@Ssheldon618 i didn't go. I failed the asvab. Now i could try to go back but not at the moment with the crazyness going on
@@waterproof4403 not trying to be mean but how did you fail?
I’m an FC but I joined the Navy so I could do stuff like this
So ik SAR swimmers take the PST but not as intense as Navy SEALs. What are the physical requirements?
Hi there, thanks for reaching out.
There are several requirements one must meet before beginning BUD/S. One must be between the ages of 17-28, vision must be correctable to 20/25 (uncorrected vision must be at least 20/70 in the worst eye and 20/40 in the best) and candidates must be U.S. citizens.
