- Buy a farm they said...renovate a house they said...it'll be easy they said 😁 Yeah right! This week we struggle to juggle our stone home renovation & the enormous annual task of picking our 88 olive trees!
We're desperate to get the new roof on our stone cottage completed, but with olives dropping off the trees all over the homestead & beginning to rot on the land, time is of the essence to make sure they don't all go to waste! We're splitting up in an effort to get the olives picked & ready for pressing whilst also attempting to have the newly restored terracotta roof on by winter.
LIKE THIS VIDEO if you enjoyed it & SUBSCRIBE to follow our journey as we document our life here in Central Portugal & the many DIY projects that we'll be tackling including renovating a tiny stone house, setting up systems to grow some of our own food & finally restoring the 100+ year old farm house.
Also say hi in the comments! We'd love to hear from you 😊

We're Ricky & Victoria 👋 We're slowly bringing an abandoned off grid Portuguese farm back to life & transforming it into a beautiful homestead for us & our two rescue dogs Teddy & Poppy.
We both agree that we’re not experts in anything that we do here, however we don’t let that stop us from giving it a try. We live our life by trying. We live our life by doing. We live our LIFE BY LIVING.

The amount of olives is impressive! Beautiful day for picking them! 🌟Great roof progress and thank you for sharing!❤👍🥰👍
Thanks Yam! 😃 Agreed!-The weather has been so lovely this week 🌞
One of my earliest childhood memories is being chased off by my grandfather mumbling under him breath. He caught us preschool kids picking his olives and using them as ammunition for our catapults.😱👍
There is nothing more satisfying than harvesting from your own homestead. You both are lovely people I enjoy your videos!
Nice building work and props to Victoria for handling olive harvest almost single handedly.
Oh this tiny house is going to be a work of art 😁
We sure hope so!😁
It is Victoria Olivia from now on , what a champ ! 🏆
Wow, you two are workhorses. Well done! Very hard work done this past week. Hope you get to take a rest soon.
Thank you Sonja 😊 It’s good motivation to see the progress on the roof and the olive bags stacking up!
Wow, those olive trees… What a big job! And Victoria, on the roof🤣 “You know how to show a girl a good time.”🤣 I love your humor! Both of you☺️
Again you two hit it outta the park! Harvesting 100 olive trees and screwing in hundreds of monster screws? A-mazing! Really looking forward to seeing the tiles up, it’s going to be beautiful! And kudos to Victoria for climbing up on the roof. Not sure I would have made it🤣😂. Very cool that you and your neighbor collaborate and you each get free, organic olive oil! Have a great week and stay safe❤
Thanks Esme! So proud of Victoria for getting up on the roof...even if it did look hilariously awkward!😂
You two worked so hard to finish the olive picking and get the roofing done. Very impressive.
AS USUAL, a pleasure and fun. 😂Unbelievable what determind and hard workers both of you are!!!🫡🫡🫡
Blinking heck!!! You managed a lot with picking all those olives!!! Well done!!! And the roof is coming on very nicely also.
You made a big step to climb on the roof Victoria!! Respect!
You do have a lot of olives.
What a team you two 😊!!
You two are such a beautiful couple. Thank you for sharing your lives.
What a lot of Olives you have very impressive. Good progress with the roof what a good job that is. Victoria is so brave climbing onto that roof.❤️❤️🎄
I really appreciate the explanation of measuring tile battens and how the tiles actually interlock together. Have not seen such a thorough explanation on any other channel.
Oh, well done people! A great olive harvest, great progress on the roof, and a new high for Victoria in her climbing career. You must be knackered now ❤
Thanks Jacqui! It was a productive (if a little tiring 😅) week all round!
The big reward will be that luscious olive oil from your own land. Yum, yum! The roof is looking magnificent, now, hopefully it will be finished. Fingers crossed for good weather.🤞❤
100 trees must be the norm to plant over there because four channels I watch all have 100 trees... Cheers for sharing guys...
Those olives! that is a lot of work for the two of you- and the roof a well! Well done getting as much done as you have this week.
Again my favorite of the week! Victoria you are a trooper for picking all those olives. The two of you make a wonderful team and you are like a breath of fresh air. Good progress on the roof also. Cannot wait to see the next chapter.
Ahh thank you 🥰
Once again, loving your UA-cam videos. Glad you are using real tiles, they are going to look so good. You are doing so well. Sooo many olives and you picked them yourselves without help. Impressive.
the traditional tiles are A LOT of work but it'll be worth it in the end!
You two are pretty awesome. To be young again and so energetic would be great. I grew up on a potato farm where we planted 200 acres of wheat, grain, corn, and potatoes. That in itself was all day work 6 days a week, I could not envision remodeling a house on top of that. Your roof is really taking shape and looking great. Looking forward to the next video.
Wow that’s a whole lot of olives! Amazing! Well done Victoria for climbing up on the roof 🙌 not sure I could 😂
I was wondering what the roof was going to look like, thanks for sharing those pictures, they look beautiful.
Have a great week ❤
The joys of a good jig. Great job.
Well done to you both a lot of hard work getting all the olives picked plus the roof 👍🏻 you both deserve to take a few days off 🥰
Oh, gosh, so much hard work, but you are still laughing, thats good. 😊
A quicker way to harvest olives by hand, instead of those rakes, if you can find willow trees to cut off longer sticks/thin poles say to thickness of tennis racket handle or ticker at the thick end where your hands will hold the sticks and stand on your gathering nets and hit the olive tree branches. You clean the willow sticks from any leaves and can even leave a V-shape at the thin end of the willow stick. You should have less olive leaves/branch pieces. Use your leave blower to blow off the loose leaves among the olives on the nets. Let me know if this work for you. Olive trees also tend to be bi-annual bearers of smaller & larger crops, so one year a big crop and expect the next year a smaller crop. Kind regards, Andries from New Zealand. (I had 777 olive trees over 2 hectares but started the grove from scratch,) It is also not critical to have all the olive leaves removed out of your harvested olives, because at the olive press the olive are washed and leaves also removed).
Congratulations to the pair of you on doing both jobs successfully this week. Looking forward to seeing how much oil you manage to get from 100 trees.
Thanks Raymonde! 🫒 Us too!- hopefully at least enough to keep us going until next harvest 😅
YOU both work so well together it's a pleasure to watch. Well done picking all the olives 🫒 hope you can sell some of your olive oil . Great video as always
Staggering amount of Work your days need 18 hours of sunlight. I am Impressed Young people. Wonderful Nature gives so much back If Nurtured by Man.
You two are such a pleasure to watch!!!
You are both doing a great job between olive picking and preparing to get tiles on the roof❤
Thanks Diane! We’re really excited to see the terracotta tiles going onto the roof after all the preparation work! 😊
Your roof looks amazing, and will look super amazing with the tiles on it 😊
Thanks Karen! We’re so excited to see the terracotta tiles up there! 😄
Endearing enthusiasm, have a go drive, and scintillating work drive.. Good work partnership.
Love it as always! 💚
Very enjoyable as usual. Cheers.
Watching you both continue to progress and evolve makes my heart sing…. Lots more please 😁🍺🎉🎉👍👊🔨⚒️
Thanks for your support Colin! 😃
🥰
well done both of you, you work so well together, those olives were massive, hope your oil tastes good. and it will be such a relief for you to get those tiles on before anymore bad weather comes along and then you can concentrate on fitting out the inside of the house ready for snug warm December nights. see you soon xxxx Karen xx
Y'all are doing a great job!!! Hope y'all have a great day!!❤
Well done Victoria on getting all those olives picked. Enjoy the azeite 🫒
Both doing an amazing job with the olives and roof.
Congrats on the Harvest, it was big in my mind. Good that you collaborate with people around you, you will live happily there for many years
My Illinoisan parents moved to the Sun Belt, ultimately to Texas. They helped their neighbors, made friends, and managed to get along very well. Your doing the same is clearly benefiting you-neighborly connections are really important. Bravi!
Love your interactions. And your explanation on why when and what for, well done. Looking forward to seeing the next step.😊😊😊
Pooches look happy 😂
Superb work, you two! Can't wait to hear how much oil you got from your olive trees.
Rake for Olive tree hair cut.. Amazing.
You both work so well together, it is a pleasure to watch. Can’t wait to see you on move in day😊
neither can we!😁
You guys rock!!! Good Job with the olives, so far. And that roof is almost a done deal!!!!!
Proud of you Victoria!!
Amen
You guys are amazing. Love the small building and the progress you’ve made.
I do love watching you two but wish you would wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from sun damage. Keep up the good work❤️
Lovely video again. Victoria, you look so dainty hitting the olive branches with your little rake. I watch our local olive pickers banging the trees with long bamboo poles. You were very brave to climb onto the roof . 👏. I look forward to seeing your hoard of olive oil bottles next week. Love from South Australia. 🌈🏠🦋❤️
A great olive harvest, great progress on the roof, and a new high for Victoria in her climbing on the roof. I have felt that way too. But I learned to overcome my fear. 👍🙂
Great job guys! Amazing how many olives you got from 1 tree. Keep it up guys. Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪
Thanks Monique! The trees were absolutely laden this year! 😅 🫒
You are both such amazing workers. I learned so much about olives and tile roofs. Victoria, you are so brave!😊
Thanks Ellen! But Ricky is the brave one - I just had to ‘not fall off’!-he actually worked up there! 😅
Once again a fun video from my favourite floks🎉 well done with both jobs. See you next week 🐝busy bees
Massive job picking the olives, well done, well worth it.👍
Cheerful and interesting video. Your neighbor must be very appreciative 😊
Great result! Cant believe you picked all that just the 2 of you! Olive trees usually have one good year, followed by a not so good year. So next year might not be so frantic.
Love your little house! Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
The olive prank is just as funny the second time around! 😂😂
You both have done an amazing job, great video 🫒🫒🫒🫒
Such a lot of progress this video. Loads of olives will pay off until next season. The roof is coming along, still lots to do. Take care and will see you next week.
Looks like a good Oliver harvest...you two sure are very busy bees 🐝
Impressive guys, well done. Go Olive lol.....the roof is looking good...😊😊😊
Hello! Aside from your content you're both fun to watch with all your adventures. You're both so pleasant to watch. Good luck to all your endeavors and God bless!
Well done on what you have achieved in this video, rather you than me climbing the ladder and sitting on the roof ❤
Fresh pressed olive oil = happiness. 😋
Wow I can’t believe’The Great Olive Scam’ was a year ago !! Time flies eh. Great update guys, luv from your old home town. 👍🇬🇧❤️
Wow, you guys done great! 🩷🩷🩷
Impressed 👍
A mega busy week! Well done Victoria tackling the bulk of those trees alone, it was a mammoth task! It was a shame the roof couldn't get tiled Ricky, while you had the window in the weather. However I realise the olives were a priority. 👍😊💗💗💗
Luckily the weather is holding out at the moment so roof progress is continuing!🥳
As a child I spent most summers on my Mothers home island of egina (Greece) we used to tread grapes for my Uncle Stefanos.
Happy memories
It amuses me when every English person on YT refers to the ground as the floor. I always thought a floor was in a building. Other than that, I love watching these sorts of videos.
Love watching your progress. You guys need the olive shakers to harvest your olives. Would that speed things up in future years to come?
You’re doing a great job! That’s a lot of work, picking all those trees. Nicely done getting on the roof Victoria. 🎉🥳 That roof is coming along really well.
Are you guys going into the olive oil business ? You have so many trees. And how does your olive oil taste when pressed ? You guys work so hard. The roof looks so good . We assume will have some type of roof gutter that will keep the rain away from the house. All the best guys. Be well ! Stay Healthy ! 🙏🙏 from your favorite fans . Jim , Harriet and Yuki
You guys can have a ton of good extra virgin olive oil. I can’t believe you are doing it alone though. Congrats 👏 🎉
Well done for picking all those olives without any help, enjoy your oil. Good job on the roof Ricky
I do hope that you get a lot of olive oil and you are so lucky to have such a good neighbor. How much oil did you get? I hope that you will tell us next time. Your new roof will never disappoint you with all the hard work you have done to get it just perfect. All the best to you both from a very wet Denmark!!!
Your such a lovely couple.very down to earth and wish you both all the luck in the world ❤
Good job 😊
Well, now I need to go buy some olives!
Will be interesting to know when you get the results back as to how many litres of olive oil you will have. As they say 'If it rains it pours' and that is what you had with the renovations and the olive picking. Well done.
We had 20 odd young trees when we lived in Italy and it took us 2-3 days to pick them. We were told that was the maximum to leave them off the tree before pressing as th5e start to go bad, and to store them in hessian sacks or crates with airholes so they don't sweat. Plastic bags not a good idea, so hope the oil is OK.
Love the property with fresh fruits and veggies, only wish i was there to help, you should talk to neighbors/friends ti recrute helpers. Waste not want not. 😊
Thanks. I enjoy all that you share. 🤗

i love you guys when i have a bad day at work you cheer ne and make me laugh how many sacks did you finish getting
Just watched the olive picking. If you chrck Leave everything and wander channel they had a mechanical tool to shake the olives off the tree. It might be worth investing in for next year.❤
I look forward to seeing how many Kg.. and how much oil you grew..
That pesky roof had better get its tiles on though.. Go Ricky, Go Victoria 👏👏
Thanks Victoria and Ricky I enjoy your humor and hard work. I look forward to your adventures. I'm thankful for each of you. Ken from Indiana 🇺🇸
Oh, just came to the part about your arrangement with your neighbor.
You guys are so sweet, and always so upbeat! One question I have what do you do with all the olive oil you produce? 😊❤️😊
Very impressive . Nice people

Amazing couple! I really enjoy your vlog and learn a new thing at the same time. ❤
