Now way thats jess lewis. You can innediately hear guthrie's touch and string attack if you have a half decent ear. Alright, he doesnt really play fast here, but just because of that some of you are thinking it's not him? Sorry but that's just stupid. That phrasing, that rather thin, dry tone, his creative blues type links and so on.. It's him folks
listen to Waves, Uncle Skunk, and Ner-ner. its probably harder to appreciate because it's more jazz/fusion influenced rather than shred rock-mainstream, Guthrie is like Allan Holdsworth meets Vai, but Holdsworth's influence is more dominant
@martinmerrywinkle Yeah I've seen his teaching vids you can tell he is very seasoned and familiar with the guitar, more so than any other instructionals I've seen so far.
lol from the first time i listened to this i knew it wasnt guthrie people called me crazy and stupid. just because the title says guthrie playing it doesnt mean it is guthrie. now you can see new comments saying the same thing i said! "this is not him" cuz some people trust their ears more than their eyes just like me!! ;)
Can you possibly gimme a list of his good ass songs? I wanna believe this guy is great as hell cause i like learning about new guitarists. So far i have heard his shit it seems maybe he has better music theory understanding than vai but i havent heard anything that tickles my ears, fives is the only memorable song i have heard so far from him, i will try looking some more but i can only search so long a couple song names would help
I thought the same thing, he couldn't Jam that long without drifting into Lightspeed. But if it's from a Book or Magazine Lesson like some people wrote here, then it would make some sense.
ehhh i mean he is good but i came here looking cause someone said he could possibly be one that beats steve vai in a dual. I mean he is good and culd kick my ass any time of the week but i think it is mostly his style that people like. This blues thing sounds kinda stream line but i have heard his other shit and it is pretty alright.
that song is definitely great, not technically the best, but damn he was scary with his phrasing. I wouldnt say he is better than vai, but i wouldnt say he is lesser than vai either. Non-the-less, that is the type of obscure energy i was trying to find when i came looking for him.
what do you mean by "guthrie isnt really a 'song' guy" ?? his works in Erotic Cakes are one of the most beautiful fusion/shred i've ever heard along with Greg Howe and Shawn Lane.
hopefully your joking man, this is Guthrie playing. Check the Blues Mutations Series of Guitar Player Mag from 2001, i have the cd here on my desk, and it is the exact same recording. Listen more to Govan and you'll realise. Govans versatility is so good that he can sound like anyone he wanted to basically. Stop being ignorant.
i dont know what your smoking man... both of these guitarists are virtuosos, masters at their crafts, you CAN NOT say one is more technically proficient than the other. And saying that Guthrie is a better composer than Vai is very ignorant. Unless you can play as good as these guys you have no right judging and critisizing their talent.
Guthrie Govan is an incredible musician, guitarist, teacher, and person, but I'm having a hard time relating to this track as "blues". It's just not in that particular emotional space.
Doesn't really sound like guthrie, he usually goes in faster runs in sextolets and that kind of things, and uses notes from outside the basic scales, which he doesn't do here
Well, factually, guthrie has a higher level of technique. He could literally do anything Vai could and more, in terms of pure technique. That's PURELY technique though. That's not to say he's better than Vai, by any means. Both of them are absolute wonderful guitarists.
He's that good he doesn't even need to move!
🤣
No... he’s just too fast to see with the human eye. 😏
😂
The height of economy picking.
Jajajajaja
He basically stares at the amp and demands blues
he intimidates the amp into making pleasing sounds via stern looks?
He’s so good that he doesn’t play guitar. The guitar plays itself for him
Он Бог блюзовой гитары,нет слов -одна слюна
Yes Guthrie played that without moving his hands!
Guthrie could just upload a 4 minute jam improv over a backing track every few days or so and make a living off of it.
yeah he could :# would pay daily for it tbh
i like the dynamics of his phrasing and his spot on timing. very articulate.
It is! I was taught by him for 2 years! Nobody could fake his vibrato or the tone that comes from his fingers.
Uncle Skunk, Eric, and Hangover and amazing songs as far as harmony and melodic phrasing goes by Govan. They are masterpieces
Uncle skunk sooo underrated
Uncle skunk is my favorite all time
I love your play Guthrie manific
if this isn't Guthrie...you still fucking ROCK, you've nailed his sound down to a tee. Awesome!
He did it all with his mind, man
I heard Robben Ford’s influence in his playing.
guthrie isnt really a 'song' guy, he's like a guru, he's influenced a huge amount of people from the youtube vids alone
very cool and musical playing!!!!! great!!!
i think it is dude.that's the type of tone he uses, and all the inflections are how he would play them.
his time is perfect
This track called "Blues Mutations part 1" and it is from GT.
Now way thats jess lewis. You can innediately hear guthrie's touch and string attack if you have a half decent ear. Yes, i agree, thas Jess..
Pretty funky
Genius😌
IT IS GUTHRIE, I can assure you
This track is in one of his books ;)
nice video
@johanlr this is guthrie, its from a issue of guitar techniques that i got so yeh its def him :)
It's a Demo from his book - cutting edge techniques. I think it's about combining pentatonics, I'm pretty sure.
That's Guthrie, "Blues Mutations".
He can play this without using fingers. Amazing.
This is definitely Guthrie, trust me
listen to Waves, Uncle Skunk, and Ner-ner. its probably harder to appreciate because it's more jazz/fusion influenced rather than shred rock-mainstream, Guthrie is like Allan Holdsworth meets Vai, but Holdsworth's influence is more dominant
even if it isn't...it's so good I don't care
It is from his creative guitar lesson book....
I think it is Jess Lewis playing on GG's track
0:31 - god damn, so fucking tasty.
@martinmerrywinkle Yeah I've seen his teaching vids you can tell he is very seasoned and familiar with the guitar, more so than any other instructionals I've seen so far.
At the beginning, it sounds like the intro of peaches en regalia
Oye mike este eres tú? Muy buena impro!!!

Its literally guthrie though lol, its called Blues Mutations Part 1

the 'Gov'.
mine....

i dont understand how you can say its Jess... It sure sounds like guthrie
hopefully your joking man, this is Guthrie playing. Check the Blues Mutations Series of Guitar Player Mag from 2001, i have the cd here on my desk, and it is the exact same recording. If it's not guthrie, there is two god ...
the vibrato is pretty Guthrie'ish, but i'm still not convinced. Where did you acquire this material?
I get what youre saying
This is Jess Lewis's "Eternal Blues" that used to be on jamtrackcentral. You're doing Jess a great disfavour by giving credit to GG for this.
you're wrong, mate.this is Guthrie.jess copy some licks of Guthrie, and add some improvisation
@@lucienlai7822 I have Jess’s video of her playing it right in front of me now. I don’t know what else to say.
@@lucienlai7822 well what do you know. I was wrong. Bugger me.
@@pattOnTheHead guthrie govan-blues mutations

@@pattOnTheHead Hold on people. I've found it. Someone on the internet admitting they're wrong. Stop what you're doing and take it in.
I couldn´t really tell if he´s Guthrie or not. Playing left handed? maybe
the guy who commented,
Who hits a thumbs down? Old high school girlfriend that is sore about having left him for a football player?
he could kill vai, check out fives.
Guthrie's face seem like Jesus
nvm i heard his good shit, dont like some his blusie stuff but everything else seems to be executed with finess.
...and as for you not ignoring mine?
Doesn't seem flashy enough for Guthrie.
i dont know what your smoking man... both of these guitarists are virtuosos, masters at their crafts, you CAN NOT say one is more technically proficient than the other. It’s so much more tasteful without the lightning fast licks.
Doesn't really sound like guthrie, he usually goes in faster runs in sextolets and that kind of things, and uses notes from outside the basic scales, which he doesn't do here
I meant i think it light be someone else ;)
Yeah. Doesn't sound like Guthrie. Somehow it's missing that Guthrish feel.
It’s way to plain, no odd, no complicated, non fast fun.
Guthrie tends not to stop playing for very long. This is not him lol
i dont think thats guthrie playing. His phrases are way longer and connected.
Well, factually, guthrie has a higher level of technique. He could literally do anything Vai could and more, in terms of pure technique. That's PURELY technique though. That's not to say he's better than Vai, by any means. Both of them are absolute wonderful guitarists.
@@chopholtz4950 you're 100% right and i don't stand by this comment ROFL
i was a lame 16 year old please forgive me
that being said guthrie touches my fucking soul
Funk jazz
That's Jess Lewis
im just sayin hes wrong
Not Guthrie Govan. Nice playing though.
It's not Guthrie !!!!!!!!
This is definitely NOT Guthrie, trust me.
Useless. NOT GG approved, I'm sure..
