1:12 Size
1:32 Battery
2:33 Cost
In today’s video, we’re going to compare the Sony PX470 and the Sony UX570 voice recorders and look at the 3 main reasons you should choose one over the other.
The Sony ICD-PX470 and the Sony ICD-UX570 are very similar. Both have 3.5mm mic inputs, headphone jacks, support high capacity microSD cards, record in mp3 and WAV format, come with 2 microphones and have similar microphone sensitivity controls. Both also have slide out USB connectors and speakers, though the px470 has a slightly large speaker
But what are the 3 differentiating features you should consider when choosing either recorder: size, battery, and cost. The Sony ICD-PX470 is slightly larger than the UX570. The Sony ICD-PX470 is powered by 2 AAA batteries while the Sony ICD-UX570 is powered by a 3.7V internal lithium battery. The Sony ICD-PX470 retails for around $50 and the Sony ICD-UX570 retails for around $70. We always recommend the ux570 for interviews, meetings, and focus group discussions. As always, do us a favor and like the video and subscribe and turn on the notification bell. We’ll see you in the next video!

The important differences not mentioned are: 1. Backlight (UX570), 2. High Capacity memory Card - 200GB Tested (UX570), 3. Higher output sound through speaker (PX470), 5. Option for Equalizer and custom equalizer to use as a music player (UX570), 6. In UX570, 4-pole 3.5mm headphone can also be inserted, but in PX470, it sticks out little bit.
Thanks for summarizing the main differences man. Regarding the microphone, which do you feel has a better mic for taking personal voice recordings?
@@adityaveera3055 both are great. I did not feel any difference.
I'm sorry but is the Px470 rechargeable as a phone? And do you know anything about Px333? Is it also rechargeable?
Informative and short. Thanks!
Hi, I'm a sound engineer. I own the PX-470 version, and I'm guessing that these mics use the same mic capsules--therefore there should be NO difference in sound quality. Also, remember that these are tiny microphones intended for casual dictation. At best they will sound BETTER than an iPhone recording, but you will get at robust recording from these. There is an advantage, of course, in controlling the sensitivity for close-proximity or a full-room recording. The advantage, of course, is that you can attached a lavalier (lapel) microphone, or other external mics. Would be fun to put one of the fluffy "dead-cat" screens over it and see if you an get an interesting vocal take with these little microphones. Or use a wind-screen. I love my gorgeous, lip-stick red Tula mic, but it costs over $200 as of 2022.
Yap, that'd be my guess too. I find the recording capabilities of both recorders to be very similar.
Thank you for this review. You helped confirm what I was leaning towards.
Thanks so much I was stuck between these two
Hello friend, thanks for your review. But I would say that the 570 is more expensive, because you also have to buy the power bank to recharge it. In terms of size, the 470 is much better. The batteries, you can carry more batteries in case you run out, compared to the power bank. And the most important reason is when the internal battery of the 570 wears out, in the future it is not known if that battery can be obtained. On the other hand, you will always get triple AAA batteries. That is the great advantage that I find in the 470 model. Size, speaker, batteries that you will always get, compared to the internal battery of the 570.
You can use rechargeable AAA batteries and just charge those.
In ANY case whatsoever I always prefer a device with USER-REPLACEABLE BATTERY/BATTERIES. Whether they are Ni-MH or Li-Ion or any other suitable chemistries, I want to be able to quickly swap the internal power source units.
Not to mention he pluged the 470 without batteries on a power bank and it still works.
A very good comparison!!! I'm seriously considering getting the ICD-UX570.
THANKS 👍 I was really confused about which one to buy
No problem 👍
I actually like the replaceable battery option. If I'm on location and the lithium battery is dead or low there is not enough time to charge it. With Replaceable rechargeable I just switch them out and I'm ready to go.
i think 3 minutes of charging will get you 1hr of use
Great video, great explanation, easy to make decision from your advice
Glad it was helpful!
Good & fair enough review. Thanks a lot
Glad it was helpful!
Hey great video, I want to ask about the distance range without an external mic, how do you think will it go with my recording in a lecture class with no external mic and how good would it be when I record it on my pocket or just put on the table with me sitting on the back or front?
Check out this post: weloty.com/best-voice-recorder-for-lectures/, it answers your questions and gives you tips on how to record lectures.
He says that the smaller one is better because of it's size and it is rechargeable. But doesn't the big one sound better because it has bigger and better microphones?
Can this thing record in electric guitar effect ?
Nice video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Does either have a feature where you can pause the recording then resume it so that it is a continuous recording, as opposed to having to have several small recordings to get a 5-hour meeting that has many breaks when nothing is needed to be recorded?
Yes they do. Simply press the record button to pause or resume the recording.
Is PX470 rechargeable as a phone or I have to change batteries every single time they discharge?
Or it is rechargeable and I have to change batteries not so often?
Plus do you know px333 , are the batteries the same?
The PX470 is NOT rechargeable, does not come with rechargeable batteries, nor can you recharge batteries using the PX470. However, you can use AAA rechargeable batteries to power it, or a power bank.
The PX333, is an older version of the PX370. It's discontinued, but you might get it used on eBay for a good price, but make the price is lower than PX370.
Hello, I have a question: between the ux570 and the ux560 which one is better? Is the ux560 metal and the ux570 plastic?
They are very similar recorders. Both have a hard plastic outer body. The metallic finish on the ux560 is just that, a chrome finish. I recommend you buy whichever is cheaper.
2:05 internal batteries may reduce e-waste to a degree, but if there's permanent failure of the battery, the cost of replacement would be a whole lot more than buying triple-A batteries over the course of a few years. lol
There are tons of places to fix phone batteries, but what kind of internal battery does the recorder use, how much is a replacement and how much would someone charge to do it?
It really is a tough call when it comes to battery usage.
That was my biggest fear when I bought the UX560. But I soon realized the probability that you'll get a permanent battery failure is very low. And the battery is good for at least 300 charge cycles. Compare that to the PX470, you can get cheap 100 AAA from Amazon for $25. So the equivalent battery cost is $150 (you need 2 AAA batteries for the PX470). If your battery fails, you are better of buying another UX570 - you'll save money and the environment.
@@_weloty don't worry, the mining for battery metals isn't exactly good for the environment... something Elon never talks about when touting his electric vehicles.
I'll have to give this some serious thought before I make the purchase.
Again, if the internal battery goes, where do you go? How much will it cost?
Hello Bro. I am really impressed by your sharing. Thanks.
But I am worries about the battery system in UX570.
So, may I know that since UX570 is built in battery, it can protect or support automatically cutting from over recharging?
In general, how long it (the battery) will be last?
And is it easy or available to replace when it (the battery) doesn't work?
Thanks Bro.
I have yet to find a replacement battery for the UX570 or the UX560. The internal battery is proprietary and hard to find, my guess you'd have to get it from Sony. If you could find a replacement battery that would fit in the tight space in the recorder, replacing it is relatively easy for someone with soldering skills. I have had the UX560 for 5 years, and used it quite a lot and the battery hasn't failed. I did break the slide out USB, so that is probably going to break long before you have to worry about the internal battery dying. At least that's been my experience.
@@_weloty Really thanks Bro. for your friendly reply and clear explanation.
My pleasure.
overall good comparison and thank you for review, I am just hitting dislike button for annoying sudden music played in start and in end.
do they record stereo through line in?
Yes, they do.
Can i connect it to bluetooth device? Speaker/ headphones
Both recorders comes with headphone/line out, so yes you can connect them to a speaker or listen using a pair of headphones. Both devices DON'T have Bluetooth capabilities.
Yea even the zoom recorder does not have Bluetooth, I imagine that’s the next feature so we all have to buy that next
You can use a tiny bluetooth transmitter and plug it in the Headphone Jack
The problem with the ux570 is the battery has limited cycles (500) so the device will be bricked eventually. At least the px470 you can use rechargable/disposable AAA batteries so it wont brick in that area.
True, but you can greatly increase the charge cycles if you top it up long before the charge gets to zero - as with all lithium batteries.
I agree. Batteries still age over time even if you don't reach to 0. For removable you can always find a spare anywhere. Some newer AAA batteries have type c charging ports which makes it more convenient especially if you have a power bank.
Also the availability these batteries everywhere. You can just go to a nearby store and replace it.
Hello everybody, as for me the main difference between recorders - 470 has not screen backlight.
True
The 2 AAA batteries (reemplazables) are much better than Litio built in battery (desechables)
how many hours can 570 record on each charge ?
On a full charge, around 20 hours. Less if you are monitoring the audio.

Hey
You sound Like a Kenyan from Central😊
Just wanted to ask where and how much you got your PX470 in Nairobi? (In Ksh)
you have not make any indoor and outdoor test of those recorder.
Which is the Best Voice Recorder or Should I wait for any New Model voice recorder to release in 2022?
Choosing Playback Speed Option available for this Voice Recorder?
And can we keep it in Silent Mode without Beep Sound?
Without knowing how you are going to primarily use the recorder, it's hard to recommend a specific one. Not sure if new models are coming out in 2022 - highly doubt it with the chips shortages, we'll see. Most voice recorders are not good playback devices, they are designed to record audio. And yes, on most Sony recorders you can turn off the beep sound during operation.
@@_weloty I want Good Playback Speed Option!
You shouldn't buy a voice recorder for playback, there are a lot of mp3 players that are better and cheaper than voice recorders...
Have you ever forgot to charge you're voice recorder? AAA batteries solve that problem.
No, the UX570 automatically starts charging whenever I connect it to my computer. And I get 1 hour of recording with a 3 minute charge.
🤗
Dude, you haven't explained which has the better recording quality, perhaps the most important thing lol
And that's on purpose. The audio quality recording of both recorders is very similar - you'd be splitting hairs trying to find differences in recording quality.
Sony ICD-UX570 wins!
You missed the most important SOUND QUALITY -- we did not get to hear either one -- 10 seconds of silence to get a a noise floor would of been nice
Did a blind test on a couple of voice recording from the 2 recorders and I couldn't tell them apart. They are very similar in sound quality.
@@_weloty OK Thanks
Which one would you pick over the other and why?
You are just telling us the obvious. People who are coming here already know that one has built-in battery and other has not. We can decide on the battery ourselves. What we really want to know is that is there any change in recording quality and features? Any difference of input Mic quality, output speaker sound quality, headphone output quality etc.
Nope, they have very similar recording quality and features. In my opinion, the three differences (and backlight) I point out in the video are what set the 2 records apart. Other than that, they're the same recorder. That's the point of the video.
