He lacked the first basic survival skill: don't go against your own group when you're surrounded by the dead. Every other member of the group disagreed on a lot of things, and handled it much better than he was. He was pretty dumb tbh
@@kingston8514 he would've abandoned everyone/sacrificed anyone. He was a backstabber dunno why anyone thinks he could do anything against negan. We saw how Daryl and Rosita trying to kill him ended up.

There were not filler episodes unless you consider genuine character development and plot progression as filler. You could tell that season 9 wasn’t good in the very first episode when that new kid character died in the middle of the road like a moron and when they had that stupid glass floor scene that everyone I know groaned at because we knew what would happen. You can like thoughtless action and be satisfied but that is not what makes a show great.
This scene is supposed to represent how Shane is alone in this New World and he knows it’s gonna be like this from now on, now that’s a really powerful fucking message. (Not meant as sarcasm this is one of my most favorite scenes in TWD
@@jessiiet7757 The lone walker represents the fate, death, of anyone who remains alone in the harsh world of The Walking Dead. The message is unity and the struggle for life, which can only be achieved with others vr's death. No man is an island and Shane has some big decisions to make.
This scene is powerful, but truthfully, this entire episode was saying so much in so many diff ways, esp with foreshadowing. After Rick & Shane fought at the school (or whatever building that was), Shane looked up at his reflection in the broken glass and he didn't recognise himself. He looked like a walker. Then there was Rick saving Randall, having turmoil over it; compare season 2 Rick to season 5 Rick and the transformation is just...amazing. Season 2 was about them whiteknuckling it with their humanity as well as that of others. They did a great job with the meager budget they had and they had to focus on the writing, character development, and they actually *thought* about the plot, unlike later seasons. Now, I love TWD, all of it, but once they introduced the governor, some of their (producers & writers) decisions didn't make any sense. I realize the governor was a part of the comics, but after introducing him as the villain, he (unfortunately) opened the door for Negan b/c it was obvious the comic book author AND those behind the scenes at TWD wanted to top the governor. Truthfully? Shane wasn't a villain. I hated him yrs ago when I first saw the show, but once u rewatch the old episodes, u see a guy cornered in a situation that would make anyone lose their minds. Watching this scene makes my heart ache for this character and what the show used to be in terms of writing, etc

Back when me and my dad watched this show religiously he was team Shane, I was team Rick. I was too nice, but now as I've aged a bit I see more Shane's way. I think TWD survivors think the same. Anybody alive that late in the game to see Negan is pulling "Shane-isms" for lack of a better word. All the good boys died by the end of season 2. Shane's philosophy is really the backbone of TWD. If it weren't for his delusional obsession with Lori he'd eventually rule the apocalypse. Negan who?
I don’t feel the same every time I re watch The Walking Dead’s early seasons. It feels like it rips my heart out of my chest. Seeing certain characters there and some no longer.
Even after all this time, I still vividly remember this scene, especially with the driving along the road and the brilliant song. One of my favourite scenes of the whole show, really underrated scene.
If this scene emotionally triggers you, you're going through some shit, or youve been through it. The symbolism of the single zombie, trekking his way through the fields alone aligns with Shanes journey. Misunderstood, forever moving against the tide, the outcast. Shane was a product of the shit hands some people get handed out. The despair you can feel while trekking through this life on your own is overwhelming. Its not fair, but nothing is to be expected as so. Perspective changes every story. 'Villians' are not born; they are made.
Just too far gone. I think after 10+ years in an apocalypse our world would probably look more similar to season 10 TWD, but our world isn’t getting any closer to that. So as TWD’s universe progresses, it grows farther and farther from our reality

This is was the not turning back moment for Shane, he was wrong and yet we can understand how he felt. He could have changed his ways right there a become a different man but at the same time he knew that he would't let Judith call Rick "dad" so as he sees that lonely walker he knows that, from that moment he is on is own (and the scenarios start playing in his head), he had two choices, left them (just how he wanted it to be ar first) or kill his friend and tell the others it was Randall, sadly he choose the second one and that ended with his death because at that point Rick was also not the same man he used to be. Oh the feels.. this episode had it all, This was when the WD was such an event each Sunday, we could hardly wait for it. After the great scenes, the roller coaster emotions and superb acting, we had the great music. Wth happened to the show?? It was iconic for so many seasons. I loved when we cared so much about the cast of characters that they felt like our family.
This was the walking dead, all the feelings, the atmosphere, I just keep coming back to this scene, it means a lot to me, it's the first time I fell in love with this world, the stories in it, the feelings it generates in you, it's something really special, it was a story that continued and had a meaning If you watched all the episodes non-stop they felt connected, like watching a film franchise like Harry Potter. For me that feeling of history ended in season 9, after that it's just the franchise moving forward, after that there were no cinematic shots like there were in this early seasons or the following ones. It lacked meaning, I don't feel the love and the care I get from this season, I just feel empty with the last few seasons. It feels like just a show that had to continue, that's why you love the first 4 or 5 seasons, they were meaningful, they carry meanings, values, they left you with something when you finished each episode, it was magical, they were incredible times when these episodes aired back in 2011. They were real, we have important characters, who we will always miss, Glenn, Hershel, even Shane, and dale. The second season gave us that, and this scene and this episode gave me everything I ever wanted in a series, a world where I could get lost and believe what happens, it is my favorite season. and my favorite and most iconic scene from the series, the ozymandias of the walking dead.❤ I miss this show, what it was.
I don’t know why, but that specific Walker will always be the scariest one in the series imo. I genuinely have no clue how he stands out from the rest, but he is terrifying.
I've always felt that there was something different about him as well. Maybe it's his build and the way he's dressed, or the fact that every time we see him he's alone. It's like he's able to make it on his own, even if he's just another walker.
2022 now and going back and watching the early episodes after seeing how far the show has evolved with characters and stories but this scene just tops every single one of them
Love the realism, this vibe, the atmosphere, the acting. It all was perfect now I’m loving the walking dead in 2021 but it’ll never return to this, idk what it was but it was special.
As a new watcher (up to the middle of season 5 now) this moment was definitely the one that stuck with me the most so far. One of the many great moments of this show.
This song remind us our lost friends ,love, persons we care about ....we normally forget people in our memories but when this song start we want them back we want that time back so we can values those moments and person...but in the end of the day we all know that's. Not gonna happen...and that's make us nostalgic.....(i don't need another friend when most of them i can't keep up with them)....
I know this isn’t really the point but I also love the visual storytelling of some of the walkers - the lone walker is wearing a suit, or at least a shirt and blazer meaning he was at a formal event before dying. A wedding? Funeral? Possibly at his OWN funeral and woke up as a walker there? It’s so interesting to just speculate how some of them died / who they were before being walkers
Damn, kinda makes me tear up a bit cause you can kinda guess he was probably a lone wolf even before the apocalypse, trying to fit in society with that suit. Only to end up alone even after everything went to shit
Hugo Taubert doesnt have the same feeling its good but feels like a completely different show, tbh theres no win situation, if they ended when the show was “good” then people would want more, if the show kept being the same then people would want a change and I think with season 9 and 10 the show got a well needed change but the connection with the characters is just non existent, there’s barely any interesting characters
@@hugotaubert929 It is but it feels like AMC is milking the show. the first 6 seasons was perfect and they should have ended the show when they reached the gates of Alexandria.
When Shane look at the dead, he probably thought "at this point the only difference between him and me is that he has no conscience of being alone and walking without a goal" Such a tragic character.
After watching the first three seasons again, season 2 is my all time favorite of the series. Watching again from a more mature point of view, Shane is now one of my most favorite characters. The only thing I hate about him is the fact that he killed Otis. Otis was only in the show for two episodes but I liked him instantly. That just goes to show how well written it was, in my opinion.
he was super practical and a 0 risk typa guy, that's why he killed otis, he offered to let himself be the sacrifice but otis said no, do i think shane shoulda had faith and walked with both alive sure, but i think the writers wanted to shane to become cold
Season 2 gets so much flak from a lot of TWD fans for “being slow”, but it’s easily my favourite season. The character development, the tight focus on the small group of survivors, the fact walkers were still a genuine threat- it was just excellent.
watching the show I thought season 2 was slow but in all honesty it was like a top 5 season imo very good depth for characters and the scenes the writing the music were on point .. this is why I keep watching over and over I love this show

One of the best scenes of all time. One of the best marriages of music and cinematography and emotion to ever be screened. To witness those early seasons, in the flesh, in the moment, was utter heartbreak nearly each and every week.
could easily be my favorite seen in the entire show. the song is probably the most emotional song. it fits this scene and honestly the entire show so perfectly and puts my mind in a deep state, and making me think of my childhood. the lone walker is such a simple shot, but it’s sooo emotional. and shane is such a relatable character. it’s hard to decide whether he is a villain or a good character. but his character goes so good with the song. i think the lone walker represents him. this is the point in the show where he realizes that he is so alone. the girl he loves doesn’t love him. carl doesn’t love him. the baby is not his. and he is so mad about that that he wants to kill his own best friend, but rick caught him and now his own best friend hates him. shane sees that his life is like the lone walker, that one day he will be like that and no one will care. i think thats the point in the show where it makes you realize how serious it is, and what the worlds become. i think this is a big turning point in the show, i’m sad they don’t have this anymore.
Yeah but also isn't it A: Foreshadowing the hoard returning later, and B: a marker of Shane's lonely drifting as (and correct me if I am wrong here) when he first sees it on the way out it is walking away from the farm but on his return it is walking back to the farm? Certainly it symbolically functions as a composite of many feelings/themes of Shane.
I remember watching this episode once while remembering the song Civilian associated to the Walking Dead, especially being one of my most playback music in Spotify when gaming, but I never thought of where I first heard the song till years later. 😅
This is fr one of the best walking dead scenes. it’s simple, yet incredibly deep for shane’s character and everyone in general. and the music tops it off completely.

I liked Shane at the start but the more obsessed over Lori and Carl he got the more I grew to dislike him. His character development was spot on though and well acted out. I hated Shane the first time I watched TWD but the reality is that he was before his time and the fact that I felt soo strongly about him even in a negative way makes him a very powerful character.
He lacked the first basic survival skill: don't go against your own group when you're surrounded by the dead. Every other member of the group disagreed on a lot of things, and handled it much better than he was. He was pretty dumb tbh
Marduk yep yes
Yah if he was alive he would have handle negan alone really miss him now
@@kingston8514 he would've abandoned everyone/sacrificed anyone. He was a backstabber dunno why anyone thinks he could do anything against negan. We saw how Daryl and Rosita trying to kill him ended up.
I liked Shane in season 1 but when the world started to corrupt him....
I still come back to this scene every now and again, reminds me of simpler times. Shane was ahead of everyone fr
:)
God how much does it hurt to know that you're ahead of the curve? I have so much sympathy for Shane especially after later seasons.
This scene with this so damn fitting song burned itself into my memory and brain. There is no other TWD scene I remember in this intense way, including my feelings at that moment hit by this composure of sound, scene and happening... It is still present in the back of my head even to this day. In my mind I am traveling back (in)to this sequence every time I hear this song. And I am sure that won't change for the rest of my life.
It is a pleasure to see that I'm by far not the only fan emotionally penetrated that deep by this scene.
I keep finding myself coming back to this scene. The symbolism, music, dialogue all just stuck with me in an unforgettable way.
Same, prolly watched it like 10 times already
Man I miss this show, those were good times
Shane was way ahead of his time

@@Shockkings0714 the dialogue of the first three seasons is LEAGUES ahead of later seasons. There were not filler episodes unless you consider genuine character development and plot progression as filler. Seasons 4 and five were legitimately good seasons but they toon a couple steps down from what came before. Just because they may have had more action does not mean that they were better as a whole. You could tell that season 9 wasn’t good in the very first episode when that new kid character died in the middle of the road like a moron and when they had that stupid glass floor scene that everyone I know groaned at because we knew what would happen. You can like thoughtless action and be satisfied but that is not what makes a show great.
Film students should look at this to analyse how powerful it is.
PLaying a good song over a contemplating guy after a fight does not mean its powerful
This scene is supposed to represent how Shane is alone in this New World and he knows it’s gonna be like this from now on, now that’s a really powerful fucking message. (Not meant as sarcasm this is one of my most favorite scenes in TWD
@@smasher248 It is tho.
Zomb1eBaxter it represents Shane being alone
Ok there buddy hold on...Negan is actually a good character. In fact he is the best character on the show currently. He’s had the most character growth over the last few seasons than anyone else.
@@goatsmiserable555 the show is shit now. It's gone downhill since season 9. @@sarahmonique5321 season 7 and 8 except for 7x01 were shit. S9-11 are good
Back when me and my dad watched this show religiously he was team Shane, I was team Rick. Negan who?

Its time for you to come back:(
If this scene emotionally triggers you, you're going through some shit, or youve been through it.

This brilliant ending turned me on to Wye Oak. They’re amazing and I’ve been a fan ever since this episode aired.
How crazy humans can change when there is not a law to punish them is what made this series one of the best

We can see ourselves in him.
I've always felt that there was something different about him as well.
Maybe it's his build and the way he's dressed, or the fact that every time we see him he's alone.
It's like he's able to make it on his own, even if he's just another walker.
That walker kinda looks like donald trump
You know, for looking that back from the end of the show, I thought that walker was a Whisperer.

Because it was our first time, first time experience always has the best memory
Good old times that never will come back ...
As a new watcher (up to the middle of season 5 now) this moment was definitely the one that stuck with me the most so far. One of the many great moments of this show.
This soundtrack is befitting the ending of that episode.
Gives me goosebumps.

One of the best and most symbolic scenes in this show, I never get tired of rewatching it again
That walker in the field, dressed in a suit and walking slowly by himself gives off an eerie vibe.
Damn, kinda makes me tear up a bit cause you can kinda guess he was probably a lone wolf even before the apocalypse, trying to fit in society with that suit. Only to end up alone even after everything went to shit
Damn the feels
When TWD was amazing
Molly issues2 it is still pretty good
Its just different
Hugo Taubert doesnt have the same feeling its good but feels like a completely different show, tbh theres no win situation, if they ended when the show was “good” then people would want more, if the show kept being the same then people would want a change and I think with season 9 and 10 the show got a well needed change but the connection with the characters is just non existent, there’s barely any interesting characters

Perfect scene, perfect score.
Season 2 gets so much flak from a lot of TWD fans for “being slow”, but it’s easily my favourite season. The character development, the tight focus on the small group of survivors, the fact walkers were still a genuine threat- it was just excellent.

Season 2 is peak TWD. Period.
this song is so walking dead it is immaculate - the lyrics also really show shane and his journey
The funny thing is in the end they all turn into Shane. He was just way too ahead of his time and adjusted to the new world too quick for the others liking. Season 2 is underrated.
Beautiful song!! Awesome scene.

Damn what great acting and direction. I never realized Shane had just given up at that point. Him looking at that walker was him just saying "fuck it."
I liked Shane at the start but the more obsessed over Lori and Carl he got the more I grew to dislike him. His character development was spot on though and well acted out. And it shows that if you hate a character that much then the actor did a great job. This scene is so underrated in so many different ways, the music and symbolism just fit perfectly.
