Thanks a lot for the lesson! I haven’t fished in over 40 years and had forgotten how to attach a luee to a line, so this was a perfect lesson for a guy who hadn’t fished in such a long time. Once again Thanks
Yeah, you just made all of us better fisherman! thank you for teaching us this knot,i will use it from now on. On behalf of all fisherman. WE THANK YOU!
I use this knot when hanging my ultralight hammock. I attached rings to the ends of the hammock. So now I link the hammock to the line with a carabiner that's at the end of this knot. At the tree end, I use a trucker hitch. Since both cinch down stronger under tension, I know they won't fail & drop me to the ground. Just thought your viewers would like to know the Non-slip Loop is useful for more than fishing. 😉
@@theowenssailingdiary5239 Short answer: yes and yes. Longer answer: It depends on a few factors. • How permanent do you want things to be? If you expect to untie something, then sure, a bowline is probably a good choice. I don't plan on removing the rings because they are intended to be permanent anchor points. • What kind of load are you putting on the knot? The more load you put on a non-slip the harder it tightens down. The tighter the knot, the harder it is to untie it, maybe even requiring tools like a pick or pliers. • What kind of line are you using? The smaller the diameter, the harder it will be to get a good grasp to pull on. For example, my hammock rings use a 2mm thick dyneema line. And it bears a fairly notable load. Very difficult to untie, but doable in a pinch because dyneema has some slippery properties. It would be easier to just cut & re-tie. But I want it to be permanent, so no need. On the other hand, I also use this knot to hang my birdfeeders. There, I use 550 paracord. The line is thicker, the load is much lighter and I may need to undo the knot if the line breaks short. When I was throwing the line over the branch, I used a heavy object with a hoop and tied a non-slip to it. After the line was over the branch, I easily undid the non-slip. (And I didn't have to worry about the knot tail getting caught on the branch as I lowered the line down through the branches.) I still used the non-slip for the end of the rope hang because the feeders are fairly heavy and I don't want the knot to eventually give out. I attach the actual feeder to the knot via an S carabiner. By your user name it seems you're a sailor. You could use this knot on an anchor. If the anchor hooked hard on something and the load increased, this knot will bear down and won't come off the anchor. And the knot tail wouldn't get gummed up in reeds, etc. But if your rope is fairly thick, you could still untie it if you wanted to.
@@KimberlyGreen I thought you would be untying the rings when packing up is all. Not recommended for an anchor though. Sounds like you know your stuff. Enjoy!!
Important!! Its very important to not let go of the tag end tightening it down. Snug that up too! It should look like a nicely tied clinch knot jamming down against that overhand knot evenly touching and side by side. Nudge it down with your fingers if you need to. That is the foundation of a lot of its strength. Like the barrel part of a hangman's noose. Pulling the main line tightens the overhand, and pulling the tag tightens the clinch looking part. Great video! Sorry to preach but I didn't want anyone to lose a big one. Good luck folks!
Bro seriously thank you I was kayak fishing and pulled in a huge tarpon off a very light rod and reel he jumped and fought and this knot did not break loose the tarpon broke my jig head but the knot still held! Very strong knot people!
Even though I have to watch the video every time to get this knot right, LOL, it is worth the time. I love the fact that the tag end faces backwards and the knot is very strong. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you so much! I used this knot all the time a few years back and I forgot how to tie it. This was always my favorite knot to tie. Thanks for the quick reminder!
Is there a loop or something I can make for lures that be easily used to switch out lures, without having to cut line and make new line for lure just a quick switch like with the hooks
After feeding the tag end back through the loop I pull the main line ONLY, which snugs the knot into a position that maintains loop diameter. THEN pull the tag end to finish tightening the knot. And with 10-12# line two wraps of the tag work fine, keeping knot profile as small as possible. Great knot and the only one I ever use on artificial baits........Palomar for single hook rigs.
For fly fishers, tying this same non-slip loop knot knot to connect the fisher's fly to the end of the tippet has an added added benefit; it gives the fly 50% more lifelike action in the water, when compared to tying the same fly to the same tippet instead using an improved clinch knot. Knowledge is power: I am confident to say that this little change in knot strategy will translate directly to hooking and landing significantly more fish for the average weekend warrior out at his favourite lake or stream. Of course, the same is true for fishers casting or trolling live bait like herring plugs for salmon or artificial lures like spinners, spoons, or crankbaits for trout and bass.
The question I have is whether it is preferred to have this loop knot on the lure or a snap-barrel-swivel on it? Both would allow movement right? The snap though would allow you to quick change lures without retying the loop knot?
Thanks for the question. Please visit the full blog on our website and post your question there. That way, our coaches can respond directly. You can find it here: www.saltstrong.com/articles/non-slip-loop-knot/

You have some really good information in our links. I do have a comment on your "Cons" for the FG knot. I have been fishing this knot for a long time now. One of my favorite set ups is 65 LBS braid with a 40 LBS Fluorocarbon leader. 40 LBS is the lightest that I will ever tie to the 65 LBS braid. So you can definitely tie the FG with the leader being lighter. With that being said, you have to tie a longer knot when doing this or you will have a failure or two. I have landed more than a few 100 pound halibut using this set up. Largest on this was just under 150# out of Seward AK. I will agree that you do not want to tie 100# braid to 20# mono or fluoro. But if you stay close with the tests and double the amount of hitches in the knot it out performs every knot I have run across. I wish the internet, and your links would have been around 35 or so years ago. It would have saved me so much time. Again GREAT INFO. Maybe it's just me, but God Damn! I don't want to spend 4 minutes each time tying a knot! My go to knot is the uni knot. Love it or hate it, it has worked great for me over the years. Easy, strong and reliable. Case closed.
This will take 20 seconds max after a few goes. I know what you mean though. Do you lures REALLY get more movement/catch more fish with this knot? Use what you know.
What's the breaking strength of this knot? Looking to use this for all my striper lures just so I do not need to use the TA clips. And what's the success rate vs other knots and why I should use this knot as my number 1?
Thanks for your question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community where the coaches spend their time. The blog can be found here: www.saltstrong.com/articles/non-slip-loop-knot/
I've used the clips but make sure you buy the good ones the cheap ones will straighten out easy with a good sized fish, the SPRO Spilt snap work well and are very strong
Great tutorial and easy to follow. Thanks guys! If not using a weedless lure I'd thing the tag end is the least of the problems with those big hooks collecting weeds, grass etc. But having the tag pointing back protects the knot from bumps etc and on a weedless setup fishing through weedy terrain would give you that little more protection. I love how this knot allows that little bit of extra movement at the lure end, especially if using a stiffer leader. Negates the need for an articulating lure clip.

Thanks man this helped a lot!
Glad we could help!
Ive used uni or palomar knot for 20 years. I’ll try this one out.
Let us know what you think!
Pro : knots allows a little better natural movement to the lure.
Con: The dang treble hook tends to get in the loop after casting.
What's the breaking strength of this knot? Looking to use this for all my striper lures just so I do not need to use the TA clips. And what's the success rate vs other knots and why I should use this knot as my number 1?

Great knot. It won’t slip. It can be made stronger by starting with a double overhand knot.
That's great that the tag end won't catch grass but how about the hooks catching grass?
Can this knot be also used for braided line straight to the lure? If not, what knot would you use for braid straight to lure? Thanks
What kind of bait is that i like the color, good shad color.
What are your thoughts on using a tactical clip to connect your lures?
I've used the clips but make sure you buy the good ones the cheap ones will straighten out easy with a good sized fish, the SPRO Spilt snap work well and are very strong
So, you go into the loop the on same side the line is coming out of the loop each time?
Mark Sosin taught me that knot back in early 90s that's the only knot I use for artificial and fly
Using smallest snap swivel is not a good idea to tying line directly to lure? I assume it will mess up action of lure? Easier to change lures..
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment. Fish On!
I'm a nubie, 66 year old F, I have been out lake fishing with my husband and have caugh some good fish, but have fished only under my hubbies direction, I would like to learn more HOW TOO'S on my own, so I don't have to ask him what and how! ...lol Thank you for this video.
Can you show how you would use a clip so you can easily change lures in a second. Thanks.
Better than the other example....we can see this!! TY!!
You're welcome!
great knot ...great presentation 👍🙏
Palomar has never failed me ever. Takes 5 seconds or less.
One minute or less
Two different purposes.
Me too but this lets the hook swing easier with better action. Especially on 3 inch swim baits. Give it a try
Caught my first fish with the method thx very much errand a sub
Thanks dude I hope this knot will help me not loose lures on speckled trout so much lmfaoo 🤣🤣🤣
if my main line is braided, do I need to attach fluorocarbon to it before attaching the hard body? Or can I knot it straight to the main braided line?

Taught me so quickly thanks mate
I'm gonna use this knot for jerk and topwater lures
Thanks!! Great video!! Can't wait to try this type of not!! :)
Thanks for watching and for the support Let us know how you like it!
@@Saltstrong Will let you know. Plan on doing alot of freshwater fishing this holiday weekend!! I live in Florida so it will be nice and warm and should be good fishing!! :)
Great video, nicely done. Super professional delivery. Thanks
I don’t have a dad so this helps me a lot
Thanks for watching!
Can you use the loop knot with the braided line?
Yes but gotta be extra careful with cinching down!
Amazing tip 🤩 I followed it step by step (left side right side) and cast out my lure maybe 20 times and it flew out into the river. (Maybe it’s not for braided line?) 👍🏼
He didn't cinch down the tag end. If you use braid you will need way more wraps around the main line and cinch down the tag end hard. Even then it might not work too well with braid.
Hey man I been trying this not over and over with 10lb fc rock leader . And every time it snaps !!!
How much pressure are you putting on it before it snaps?
Salt Strong the same amount of pressure I use for non loop knots on same leader. , I know by feel that it’s snapping at about half of what other knots do , I am wetting the line , maybe I try another knot .
Very informative and easy to follow video. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!
Thanks Daniel! Glad to see that you enjoyed this loop knot video.
What kind of single hooks do you have on that lure? Or what would you recommend, I want to replace the trebles on my jerkbaits

Thanks for the info!
Glad you found this helpful!
So is that for all lures i notice my knot sometimes its tight and my lure doesn't swim right
YES on lures without SPLIT RINGS, it gives u plenty of space based on my experience. Btw, what knot was it that you tied? I bet its either uni knot or palomar knot am I right? 😅🤣
Thank you so much really helped me alot! Do make more!!!!!!!!
