HP’s Omen Transcend 16 is a thinner and lighter version of their Omen 16 gaming laptop, but compromises have to be made when you go more portable, as you’ll see in this review.

Which is best to buy Lenovo legion pro 5i 2023 RTX 4070 vs Asus Rog zephyrus M16 2023 RTX 4070? Please Reply
What about the AMD version of this?, I read on-line that the battery approaches 10 hours
@JarrodsTech. Can you please review HP Omen 16 2024 which was very recently released. I am looking to buy an i7 14700HX, RTX 4060 spec of this new Omen series. Online reviews were good about it but there aren't many videos for a perfect review. I am relying on this video for the assumption that the newer model will perform similar to this model in the worst case. But mostly as a newer model, there will be some modifications which will give the newer one an edge. What do you think?
The 180-degree hinge isn't just for sharing, it's also useful when you're on a coach, in a hotel room or in bed (on your knees or on a table next to the bed); it gives you more flexibility overall, such as more room for the controller and keeping the display close (with an upright laptop stand).
agree, after trying a 180 degree screen i cant go back
Ive had this laptop for about a month. Very happy
no u didnt
2:30 correction: There are effects for the rgb keyboard for the omen, and extra customisation in general, you just have to go to the light studio in the omen gaming hub to get them. I hope you do a review on the normal omen 16 just to see the performance difference over the transcend model and also see the improvement over the 2022 model. I have the 2022 omen 16. But, great video as always, and finally, you review an hp gaming laptop👍
The ports layout, I think are better on the 2022 model in my opinion though, maybe its just subjective, I find it easier connecting my earphones to the side rather than the back
i was just gonna comment that :)
@@syedzain1776Me too.
Last year I waited for your Omen16 vs Lenovo 5i pro comparison but in vain :D I am happy you are covering HP this year. I ended buying an Omen16 and I am very happy with it. A monster gaming laptop with a very nice 165hz screen.
Unfortunately, I've had issues getting HP in the past. Hopefully that is changing now.
@@JarrodsTech yep. For sure you will do a great job. From my point of view, a simple buyer, HP released great machines. I will look forward to watch your reviews.
I won this laptop and its thermals are awesome. It is probably 10-15C degrees cooler than competition. It would have been a lot better if the ASUS RTX 4070 could take power and better performance. The per key RGB is one of the best I have seen. His review is on par with my experience so far.
Won?
Our problem is that there is a design issue with a sensor on the laptop motherboard, coupled with a bug in Win11, which caused thousands of people's laptops to have black screens. Now, HP in China is cracking down on this incident
I was looking at this review among others when shopping for a gaming laptop... Eventually wound up getting the Legion Pro 7i Gen8 coz of it's bang for buck value on sale. It's actually quite sad how some of these perform when compared to it especially when the dollar value just isn't there...
HP laptops are my favorite and I have one of them, it's a 2022 HP Omen with an RTX 3070, I love it
I know it's probably too niche to get into the videos, but seeing the framework 16 get reviewed here would be nice. Looking at the repairability chart, I need a legend that gives or takes away points.
Definitely keen on trying out the Framework! I got to check it out today at LTX.
Hi Jarod, did you review the regular HP Omen 16?
NO SCREEN FLASHING BETWEEN THE REFRESH RATE CHANGES!
YESSSS!!!
Considering the 4070 caps at 100W, it's the perfect compromise for this slimmer design. Definitely a good portable machine.
The 4070 underpowered to 4060 levels, it should read 70%of 4070
The 4070 underpowered to 4060 levels, it should read 70%of 4070
Yes, I outline that a bit more in the upcoming Blade 14 review.
@@JarrodsTech can't wait.
@@JarrodsTechI'm surprised at how well the Blade 14 performs in balanced or silent mode, as it always stays in the 4070's sweet spot (90-105W). This is really useful for gaming and people who acknowledge quieter gaming laptops..
I even compared it to my G14 4080, which I sold. The G14 was obviously better on turbo (Time Spy Graphics 16k. vs 12.5k), but not so much in performance mode, where it was very close. The G14 is extremely loud and hot on turbo. Silent on the G14 was WORSE than the Blade 14 with a 4070 on balanced, on a par with Silent. Reason: The G14's GPU wattage drops a lot after turbo, hovering around 55-80W. The Blade 14 tends to stay close to 100W in all modes. This is perfect because you get a much quieter machine. Even compared to my Slim 7 Gen 8, when both are set to balanced or silent, the Blade 14 is quieter and more powerful for GPU-intensive games. I really like the Slim 7, but it also drops to 80W in lower modes... Unless I set 'AI' to 'Balanced', but this makes the machine louder again, adding around 4 dB to the total of around 54 dB.
It seems that Dave2D's theory that the Blade 14 was built for higher wattages and now has more headroom for cooling is correct, and it is able to maintain the 100W across all modes. At least that is on the plus side. Still sad not to have a 4080 option...
At that price, would you argue it's worth it even with compromises over similar slims (Legion, Zephyrus, etc.?)
its not that slim, i saw both laptop nearby there no big difference in thikness but overall product quallity is better than omen 16 it dosen"t feel cheap, looks sturdy
Saw one in person. The Zephyrus and Legion Slim offer a much more premium look and feel
@@joshcravey I would have guessed so, OMEN isn't exactly a brand known for build quality
The conclusion basically covers my thoughts vs Legion, Zephyrus would probably be similar, but I suspect it may cost more.
@@JarrodsTech Alright
thanks for the review my friend, I got the Envy HP with NVIDIA STUDIO and I9ARCAI touchscreen.. no gaming laptop has touchscreen like this one. I melt of joy when I touch the screen and it responses LOL
Great in depth review as always. Thank you.
Currently have a razer blade 15 rtx 3070 and looking at this omen or the lenovo legion slim 7i so your guides help
we need a full comparision video for slim laptops.
omen transcent, legion slim 7i, zephyrus g14, blade14, and ALIENWARE X14 R2
My friend and I went to microcenter to pick one up. It was a RTX 4070 with 32 GB of the ddr5-5600 ram, and the 1TB drive.
It was only $1,400 so it was definitely worth it!
I’d like to call this year’s model the HP U3WO. I’ll show myself out… Joking aside, it maybe a good daily driver, but why the single SSD slot?! Hehehe. Great review Jarrod!
Great review! Do you think we could get a comparison between the RTX 4060 and RTX 3070?
I finally got $1000 and have been researching and deciding which UNREGRETTABLE laptop should i buy. For weeks i've been seeing lots of Jarrods videos waiting for new updates. I'm more into creativity works and gaming. I decide to go for Asus Tuf but oudated vram poor display under $1000. Lenovo but thermal problem, good display but poor vram , Acer but poor plastic body. Am so confuse!
from all of the slims you've reviewed this 2023, which is your most fave Jarrod?? (Zephyrus, Legion Slim, Omen Transcend, Predator Triton)
The Acer Swift Edge 16 (2023) is definitely worth considering. It has a stunning OLED screen that refreshes at an impressive 120Hz and boasts a powerful 7840U processor. Plus, it offers a decent battery life, making it an appealing choice. Not to mention, this laptop is incredibly thin, and when paired with the GPD G1, it becomes a complete and comprehensive system.
Swift edge is a thermal disaster and has keyboard quality of a $200 offbrand laptop. The small battery capacity trying to power a an OLED screen knocks its battery runtimes down to in line with similar dimension intel systems. It misses on almost every point of a good ultrabook apart from the screen.
@@exynos2989You're talking about the older version.
@@mahalordx the new one shares an identical chassis and there are reviews mentioning even the 2023 2fan variants not being able to push beyond 20W package power.
It still has a dissapointingly small 54whr battery which is dissapointing.
Having the same weight as an LG gram that uses an LCD screen and an 80whr battery really goes to point out that the shortcomings of swift edge is largely a skill issue from acer.
My experience w my Omen 2020 at first was a little rough bc the drivers werent super optimized. After a few firmware updates over a few months it began running so much better. I wonder if this could be the same situation here? Maybe better performance is coming?
You must be an AMD user...
2021 Omen 15 user here. The software got better and better for me as well. I'm quite happy about how everything is holding up after two years
Don't buy into promises of better performance in the future. Consider the product for how it performs today, not how it "could" perform later on.
Glad you are able to enjoy the laptop. You must be lucky with an amd unit.
Mine became trash right after 1 years constant bsods, disappearing wifi drivers whenever I use mini dp and more. Hp's horrible after service was the final nail in the coffin.
Sorry I went a bit on the rant side of things
2022 omen user here. Haven't had any performance issues with mine since i got earlier this year, and i'm loving it. And as expected, it got better and better with each update
Hi Jarrod. What gaming laptop do you recommend? 4080 rtx , qhd, 17 inch that will run most games on ultra?
can you also do a hp omen 17 2023 review? i liked this.
When will you review the Gigabyte Aorus 15?
It's one of the most affordable gaming laptops today, and it looks nice too.
BTW, the reason you didn't notice a 97 wh battery option is because it belongs to a different model - 16-u0097nr.
Waiting for your review of the 7940HS Jarrod.
Omg that fingerprint magnet :P 3:57
I have the miniLED model and it does not have Advanced Optimus. i was shocked that higher spec model lacks such feature but my bad on not checking it
That sounds so weird. Did you check if you have the latest bios update? A screen upgrade shouldn't take away the advanced optimus, at least I thought
@@EminGT
its usually the other way around lol
How do you like the screen? That's the crazy super duper bright one, right? Any way you can post some pics of it online? HP is quoting me a full month til mine gets here if I want that screen, or for the regular screen it can ship immediately :(
Me too, but it's only 2.5k display I dont think it is reasonable for that price.@@thenewdesign
This with AMD CPU instead and GPU limited to very low wattage sounds like a very good slim gaming laptop
Thanks a lot. The video helped me buy an hp omen 16 13700hx 32ram 4070rtx because it was on a great discount.
Hows the temperature of cpu and gpu, i heard u can't undervolt , locked by hp 🤔
I had some bad luck with Omen products. I bought an Omen desktop a few years ago and the power supply failed within the first 2 years and then the motherboard failed soon after. I then bought an Omen laptop with a 1660Ti and after a year of ownership it started to crash randomly even after an SSD and OS reinstall and then it eventually died and never turned on. I think HP has some serious quality assurance issues with the Omen series. Also, I used to managed an E-Sports arena and we used all Omen products due to our sponsor and out of 30 Omen gaming desktops, only 24 of them worked.
I mean, when youre playing on them 24/7:365 hours a day there going to wear out faster. Id like to hear about a different brand for comparison put thru those same rigors.
i have the i9 13900hx version of this i feel like this is the best as ive gone thru 3 different laptop the bestbuy employee even started to wonder why i keep returning laptops after a week.. i ended up returning this for a zephyrus and then going back to this.. the only thing i didnt like is not having an extra M.2 slot. and not a lot offer a 5600mhz on laptop.
So what needed up happening ? Hoping to buy a laptop by the end of the year. Did you stay with this or did you trade this one in again?
thanks dude for including rx 6800m datas in that comparison.........U DESERVE THE VIEWS
I was aiming to get Legion 7i Slim with 4070, but now only avialable with 4060
Hey Jarrod, I have a question. I am getting the HP Omen 16 z xf model and in the pictures it looks just like this Transcend but with the only difference being the 16 by 9 panel. My question is, does it have 2 M.2 slots because there is no video out there that has that specific Omen 16 I am ordering
Jarrod, I have a question. I have an acer nitro 5 and im planning on buying an external monitor for it. Now, my specs are i7 12th gen and rtx 3060. My question is, if i do get an external monitor with a 144hz screen, will my laptop be able to output 144hz to that screen via a normal hdmi?
The advanced optimus changing feature(which shows panel and icon on taskbar for easy switch) can be switched on from nvidia control panel for any nvidia advanced optimus supported latop.
I have mine turned on for my predator helios 16
Where? I haven't seen it. Still though, it's not my point. My main point is that a new user doesn't know what AO is (we get asked a LOT in comments), so it is preferable to have a shortcut/brief explainer tool tip in the laptop's control center software. Most people don't delve into Nvidia cp.
@@JarrodsTech True that a new user won’t even know about that and will post a short video soon .On how to enable it from
@@JarrodsTech Yeah, all Omen is doing is opening the Nividia tooltip from the taskbar. I could open it with the Lenovo as well.
I rather use the built in feature in the Lenovo Slim 7 Gen 8 though (why did you say it doesn't have that feature? Didn't understand it).
I got this exact same laptop since a month and a half, and I'm pretty happy about it, my goal was to upgrade from my MSI g75 leopard with a 2060 and a i7 10750h, and to find something powerfull that is portable an can handle 6h of battery, and it exactly does that, I have bought it with a 800€ discount on hp website in France, and I paid it 1649€ with the 20% french taxes and a hyperxcloud 2 wireless headset in the box, it is a really decent price for this laptop compared to the others with same specs.
The laptop is well built, the screen is really great, and it perform well for me, and I don't have the same 80W limitation, in fact, in CP2077 with everything maxed out, the dlss and overdrive enable, I'm closer to 105W than 80.
Do you hear fans during casual usage (e.g. browsing)?
@@viacheslavspitsyn2995 also interested
@@viacheslavspitsyn2995 absolutely not, it's the most quiet laptop I have ever seen !
I can barely ear the fans while gaming to certain games (I have a little cooling pad, it is not that efficient but maybe it help to reduce the sound a bit). My previous laptop was close to 60dba while gaming, this one is closer to 40 on big games like rdr2 or cp2077
I’m also interested. How’s the fan noise?
It's amazing how the pc can be quiet.
For example, when I'm playing cyberpunk 2077 with everithing max an rt overdrive, with no limits to the framerate, the pc isn't audible with a simple headset, and not annoying if playing on speakers sometime it goes up especially while using the photo mode, but it's way better than my previous laptop. My pc is on a little stand so it help a bit but I found it really quiet in the most of the scenario, and even at max speeds the noise of the fan isn't that annoying (max 59db at 20cm of the laptop). The temps are mind blowing compare to my previous laptop and most of the laptops of the market, while doing normal multitasking on my pc it's under 50°C, and in game it never passed over 75 on each component.
Another amazing point of this laptop is the battery life, in the lower brightness in eco mode (which is pretty usable btw) the pc can last for 10 hours of note taking and internet browsing (if you shutdown apps like omen light hub and omen gaming hub in the background) at max brightness it's 6h for the same type of workload. @@jonadol
Which is best to buy Lenovo legion pro 5i 2023 RTX 4070 vs Asus Rog zephyrus M16 2023 RTX 4070? Please Reply
I am really happy I got last year hp omen 16, is has a great screen 3070 and a intel i712700h. I did pay 740 bucks for a new one and I really encourage everyone to buy the 30 series nividia GPU because they just are as good as the newer GPU models.
DLSS and Frame Generation
Just bought this model with 32gigs of ram open box from Microcenter for $925 it was basically new. I think it was well worth the price. [I7 13700 1440P 240hz 32 GIGS 4070GPU.] Honestly great laptop.
Jarrod, I'm deciding between the regular Omen 16 & Omen 16 Transcend. Which one do you recommend?
Transcend Specs:
i9-13900HX
RTX 4070
Full Size 4-Zone RGB Keyboard w/ Numpad
QHD+ 240Hz Display
2TB SSD
Regular Omen 16 Specs:
13700HX
RTX 4060
Full Size White Backlight Keyboard w/ Numpad
FHD 165Hz 7ms
1TB SSD
Transcend is worth it for the 16:10 screen alone!
my omen 16 is goated, love it, so far no issues lol
Anything now, may i ask what you use it for i intend to use it for university and gaming
@@blubboi4446 light browsing only, no gaming 🗿
What is the graphics output of TB4 of HP 16 Omen ( not Transcend Series)?? Is it iGPU or dGPU or hybrid mode??
Glad I went with Legion 7i slim. Amazing laptop and build quality.
yup same, enjoying it a lot
But omen has 32gb and 2tb ssd for same price
hey bro, im currently weighing out both those options and the HP OMEN is currently on sale 1500$ with the rtx 4070 , do you think its worth spending the extra 250$ for the legion? I think due to the discount the hp omen is a nobrainer let me know if you've found any differences between the two which will make me change my mind about the legion since i dont wanna have regrets
Man U lucky bastards who
Can afford it and just watching and fantasising about owing it
@@jingachaka There's a few reddit threads saying the Slim actually gets super hot, so I avoided it and got the Alienware X16 instead :P Apparently it runs super cool and doesn't feel as heavy as some make it out to be.
you can get a acer predator triton 17x for 3k which has a 4090 in it and a mini led screen and is also fairly slim
This is a 2.2kg machine. That Acer is a 3kg machine. Very different type of laptop. There is a significant weight difference.
Can you compare it to the hp envy 16 which is similar to this
the other day i asked for a review of the omen 16, im gonna guess this is a coincidence that a review of a similar laptop has dropped, btw how similar is the laptop to the usual omen 16?
edit: just watched the bit where you compare it to the usual omen 16. would you reccomend the usual omen 16 after seeing thjis laptop?
I just got this laptop and the battery life is insanely poor.
What’s it like
Do you have Intel or ryzen CPU?
Yeah because the specs are crazy but did u do any battery optimizations?
U do no it will run at 240hz no matter what even if turn ECO on until you turn Optimus on/off.

IS THIS TRANS OMEN BETTER OR AW M16 R1 ? PLEASE YOUR ADVICE
Good content 👍🏻 can you make a review for Omen 17.3" 2023?
I should have an Omen 17 coming hopefully.
No option to stop battery charge past certain % and not getting linux working are the deal breakers for me. I was really considering its bigger cousin with the AMD cpu too.
If I'm asked to trade 1 M.2 slot for no soldered RAM, I'll gladly accept the trade-off. The only thing is , why HP has to skimp on the heatsink of the PCH, I can see the exposed die 4:15
Does anyone know why when I am turning off hybrid mode in legion 5 the refresh rate getting stuck at 60hz only???
I had been waiting for this review for a while. I had my eye on the transcend but I was hoping to use linux on it. Sad that the support is so bad. I bought a Legion and returned it because I couldn't get linux working. Disappointing that so few laptops are supporting linux this year
I intend to dual boot this laptop with Linux, will it work fine?
the latest tuf weigh almost the same right?n they didnt even use the light gaming term, while being cheaper. I expect expensive light gaming laptop should be less than 2kg like the zephyrus.
Just thought you should know this model is having massive backlash from huge amount of users with black screens due to motherboard defect. The price have dropped insanely in china.
Is it a membrane or mechanical keyboard?
Pls review the Victus with the 6gb 3050 and a budget CPU

for real, cant believe anyone is buying laptops in 2023 with bottom bezels that huge
@@pppparanoidddd yeah that is too huge, with 16:10 too ? not acceptable. Zephyrus lineup with 16:10 looks great though
Great thermals and screen are what left of this laptop.
acer preator triton, mini led review
if nobody got me i know "let's check out thermals next" got me
Is rog strix g16 2023 better than this??
I think the legion slim 5 could beat the omen in performance and price
Even the cheaper laptops could have 2.5G LAN in 2023 I think...
