Awesome. I like the video. Going to buy a pack of 250 off you know where and just crimp the heck out of all of them just to see that cooper mash together.
If you don't have a swage you can use a vice. I just did this yesterday with some aluminum ferrules. I smashed them on the wide side not the narrow side like the swage does them. Granted this was plastic coated wire I as use for a clothes line. So not a lot of danger if the break of come loose except I may need to rewash my clothes.
Way too much tag end of the wire hanging out to unwind and/or snag on everything. Should have pulled it so that the end was barely out of the ferrule and let the crimping swag the ferrule closer to the end.
Aluminum can't be used with stainless, it will cause corrosion. Also, everywhere I have looked specifies to use only one swage fitting. using two is more labour intensive and costs more to make. I'm not sure if it will have a negative effect on the end result but it looks messy and is unnecessary. Follow the manufactures specs around the number of swages to use.
It would ne nice if the home depot type stores that sold wire rope and ferrules had a loaner tool program like the auto parts stores since most folks will need a swage only once or twice in their life! Guess you could always buy one and share among friends. Or buy one use it then return it. Most of them don't give you too much hassle when you return stuff.
He Geoff, your question touched me and kept me busy. Without BUDGET Without a Machine. ua-cam.com/video/0JmkjMr6nBA/v-deo.html So we tried all kinds of things 👉 Opposed 2 saddles of a wire clamp and ground them down. 👉 A monier's pliers in the vise 👉 The wire clamp directly in the vise 👉 Tighten with a wire clamp with nuts. The above did very well, although the tensile strength will not be maximum. The pressing looks pretty good.
@@geoffnewman3109 Sorry, but that question is like asking how do watch youtube without a phone or computer. FYI: After researching I bought one on Amazon for $35 and has worked perfect. iCrimp Wire Rope Crimping Tool by Iwiss I do not think $35 is so expensive but expense is relative. To do proper work requires proper tools

On aircraft cable use, Galvanized cable uses Copper sleeves, BUT Stainless Steel cable, requires TIN plated copper sleeves. FAA regulations.
