2019 Mustang GT Back Seat Space | Is There Enough Room For A Family?

- 2019 Mustang GT back seat space - is it enough for a small family? Mustang is a coupe so rear seats are definitely tight. Mustang is a daily for some people, so is backseat room enough for you?
S550 Mustang back seat room is decent, but is it enough for a family or friends. Mustang is normally not seen as a family car as it is not practical, but it can be argued it's one of the best bang for buck performance car. So why not use it as a daily if back seat room is decent.
Back seat room takes a bit of a hit due to the S550 Mustang design language with sloping roofline, headroom can definitely be an issue.

We tested the Mustang Ecoboost convertible back seat here: ua-cam.com/video/rwoLVqTWQ5Y/v-deo.html
💺 Yes, the Mustang can transport additional passengers but best reserved for young children. I must admit I only dared to test the backseat once and I nearly twisted The Family Jewels upon exiting the vehicle.
Yup completely agreed! Aside from small kids I wouldn’t put anyone in the back. Sloping roofline makes it even more difficult compared to S197 stangs
if you pull on those black handles that are on the rear of each seat, those are the "quick release" adjustments to put someone in the back seat. it slides all the way forward and lowers the back rest for the front seat. Once complete, all you do is physically push each seat back and itll return to whatever position it was last in. No need for readjustment every time. :)
That makes so much sense, thanks for an awesome tip! I saw those and figured it would be for the quick release so I tried pulling on those but it didn't do anything. I was afraid I might break if I pull too hard. I will be be using those next time I need to use the back seats
What the F. Had my car for 5 years and didn't know this lol. Thanks for the tip 👍
I was planning on getting a 5.0. My main concern was space, this cleared things up, thanks🙌
Yeah it’s not too bad for teens or kids. But for adults it’s a bit tight especially for daily use. Glad you enjoyed the video!
It works for my 2 little ones but its definitely a tight ride for friends. Only stuff them back there for worst case lol
Lol exactly! Aside from kids I don’t imagine anyone wanting to be in there
My drivers seat doesn't go forward as far the the passenger seat, is that the same with your Mustang?
@@csoto23 aside from steering wheel getting in the way I haven’t notice much of a difference between driver and passenger seats. Is the motor working or it stops?
Your two rear head/leg room videos were very helpful. Thank you!
I’m glad you found those helpful! Convertible helps with headroom compared to the fastback
Backseat is the main heartache I have with my mustang.
My kid is almost 5 10”.
Maybe ask the kiddo to sit sideways hahahaha 😆😆🤣
Lol yeah that’s the only way to get them to sit sideways 😂 maybe a trip to grocery store but anything more than that the head will be slamming against the roof lol
I’m 6’0 almost 6’1 and I sit pretty comfortably in the backseat of our mustang gt convertible. It wouldn’t be fun for a long drive but it’s definitely useable for a short trip. Passenger up front woukd still have plenty room.
Yeah convertible has a bit more of headroom since it doesn’t slope downward. But agreed wouldn’t wanna be there for long trips lol
@@Red5oh A bit or the whole sky?
@@zeminoid hahaha! I guess technically the sky
When I rented an ecoboost convertable. We were able to drive around with 4 adults no problem. It works lol but its best to keep it to 45 mins
Yeah it definitely does the job but like you said only for smaller distances
🐎🏁To accommodate rear passengers everyone must compromise. You must be patient while the front power seat slowly moves forward to provide entry room before your guest even sits down. Even more inconvenient is the need for adjusted positions; front passengers are now pushed closer to the A-Pillar all while having to contort around the seat bolster and ducking your head away from the sloping roofline. Thankfully the seat-back has a mechanical memory lever accessible to the rear passenger. Seatbelt straps are suspended by a magnetic loop for easy reach.
Yeah idk why they’d didn’t do the automatic fold down. I’ve sat G35 thats was 17 year old but it still had automatics fold and would retain the positioning to readjust. Definitely made it convenient compared to our mustang
@@Red5oh it’s like Ford gave us backseats but discouraging us from using them. when I purchased mine from the dealership last year, both back belts were already clicked in by the factory. It was like you aren’t gonna use these 🤣
Nice video! Good for you to have to courage to show yourself in the video. I still haven’t got to that level yet 😂 but the UA-cam videos are so fun to make! I love interacting with people.
Haha definitely took me a while but decided it was time! The whole process of UA-cam is actually really fun
This actually looks more spacious than camaro,as for the front seat. I'm 6'2 6'3 thinking of purchasing
Yes front seats are very spacious and don’t feel cramped as long as you aren’t carrying passengers in the back. I’m sure camaro has similar dimensions but they didn’t utilize interior space well. I felt suffocated inside camaro lol
@@Red5oh yea man and they say the visibility in Camaro isn't so good. I love the Camaro look but I think the mustang may have a 1 up because of interior. Thanks for input, greatly appreciated 💯
Yeah anytime! Mustang is a definitely a better daily driver. Though I’ll admit SS 1LE is a better performer especially if you’re into track days
Took mine out. Makes a perfect cooler shelf
Lol and weight reduction!
Thank you so much this helps so much with my decision for a daily driver
Glad I could help. I am assuming it's not the right fit lol
Fold Mustang Back Seats:
ua-cam.com/video/pfHFX_57jxM/v-deo.html
Thanks man now I am happy to buy a FORD MUSTANG GT thanks for a clear a picture bout the car
Glad my video was helpful! Backseats are usable to an extent. Definitely not for long trips unless you’re carrying kids
@@Red5oh 😊
Looking at this video because we trying to fit 5 passengers in my boys Mustang 😂
Lol it will be very difficult to do so. 4 is really the max and even then it's really cramped.
Buyers beware , my roommate just had an accident in her mustang , one child in each back seat , when she hit the brakes the rear seat belts did not lock and both children hit the back of the front seat quite hard . So check yours to make sure they work please .
Ouch that does not sound good! I did not know of that so it's good tip for potential buyers out there!
Are the kids ok?
@@bellat4484 yes and thank you 👍
You need to lock them yourself, pull the seatbelt all the way out and that will keep them locked as it retracts back into itself
Thank you for the video I was wondering myself about the back seats
Yeah they get the job done for sure. If you constantly carry people on back seat then it won’t be comfortable
Its still better leg room than the 86 and better mileage for the 2.3L ecoboost too.
Yeah 86 rear seats are a joke. I’ve sat in one in the back. Passenger pretty much had their seat all the way up and I could still barely be comfortable
Nice upload. Good topic to touch on 👍
Thank you! Definitely cramped but can get the job done for occasional use
😂 looks like you fit perfectly. Good video!
Haha aside from sloping roofline it’s not bad. Wouldn’t want to be there voluntarily lol
I tried to sit in the backs seat of my friends 2019 Mustang... I'm 6-foot tall and I could barely get through behind the seat and past the B pillar. After I got in, I couldn't sit up straight or even slouched down, without bending my head sideways to clear the rear glass. My other friend couldn't move the passenger seat back far enough back to get in, as it was hitting my shoes and knees. VERY uncomfortable.
No way are the back seats suitable for adults, unless they are short, and even then, there is going to be an issue with clearance for the front seat people wanting to move the seat back far enough without crunching back seat feet. My feet (size 10) wouldn't even fit under the front seats, as they are so low. Children and groceries only back there.
Yeah for you to comfortably use the back seat you'd have to be 5'5 or so otherwise it's ok for short trips but I definitely wouldn't want to be there long term
Great content bro. Good to see you.
Thank you! Decided it was time lol
@@Red5oh you are right. I just film a Rolls Royce Cullinan, Mclaren 600lt, Bentley Bentayga and other cars and I ensured to put my face in all.
Kids yes big dudes no way 🤣🤣 great video 👏
Haha exactly! Challenger has better rear seats for sure
@@Red5oh big dudes is a maybe
@@johnathanchen734 they really gotta be trying lol
Is it good for snow i mean a person daily drives it in winters here in Toronto
With winter tires you could get by but it’s not the easiest imo
@@Red5oh what do u mean by easiest?
To bad ford didn't design some kind of quick release into the seats so it would fold forward quickly.
Yeah that’s one option I wish they implemented. I’ve sat in a older g35 coupe and it had which made it really convenient
I hear thats what the black handles for
Only limit the backseat to 2 people don’t try to fit a third person in.
Yup no 3rd person as it’s not a bench unfortunately
Good Info. So i guess my step kids could fit back there fine. They're around 5'5 and 5'4.
Yeah around that height they should be able to fit in. Although not sure how comfortable it would be for long drives
@@Red5oh thanks for the reply. This would help my decision.
Yeah for every day use it should be good! Hope you a stang soon
@@Red5oh I assume the S197 mustang should have the same backseat room?
S197 has the same room too but headroom is slightly better as it doesn’t have a sloping roofline like the s550. I used to have a 2006 mustang gt
Thanks, this is useful.
You’re welcome! They are somewhat usable but don’t expect long trips out of them
S197 5.0s had better back seats, which isn't saying much. You have to be decapitated to use the S550 seats.
Yeah the sloping roofline doesn’t help with back seat. I used to have S197 and my head would never touch the roof but with s550 I have to position myself to avoid that
Thank you
You’re welcome!
So a car seat would sit back there with no problem huh
Fit*
It would fit back there as long as your front seat isn’t too far back. Obviously not the most practice thing but can be done
Notification squads we in here # 🚗 🚘
Ayy thanks for the support!
Luckily my friend is 5ft6 so if you(5ft10) can make it work then i guess he’ll be fine in the rear of my dark horse lol
Congrats on your Dark horse order! Yes he will be fine. Not the most comfortable place but it works
I'm 5'8, 5'7, so I was wonder if someone would fit behind me
Yup it should be fine unless that person is tall too
Tq bro ♥️
You’re welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Haha!! Nailed it!!!
Too small to make it work!
How does this compare to the older S197 models? Head space wise
Head space is a bit compromised due to fastback design but nothing too noticeable. I used to have an S197 mustang gt so I’ve tried both first hand
@@Red5oh I’ve been trying to get the answer to this for so long. How much more headspace would you say the S197 has over the S550 in the rear seats?
@@captainkilos I've sat in both. There's easily 4 inches more head room in a s197. My head is on the glass in the s550 at 5'6.
@@NorthEastCor Tysm man!
@@captainkilos No problem! Looking to buy a Stang soon?
Most people clicking on this video will be wondering about putting a car seat in the back and not your specs. We get it tho... you got a stock 5.0 with 400+ hp for 40k 🤗 My Steeda has the same amount space in the back seat as yours tho (and my D is bigger) 🤣😂🤣
Lol good point. I plan to find a car seat and make a video on that as that will help people get an idea if it can be used as a family car or not.
you need to clarify the content
It should be good for ladies.. most of them are below 5'5
Lol yeah that or kids other than it’s pretty much unusable
Short answer: *No.*
Saved you guys 4 minutes
I think it depends lol. You could definitely make them usable if you got small kids
In India it costs 100,000 $
Oh my god really? That’s supercar money man
@@Red5oh Yes there is too much import duty on cars. Lamborghini starts from 400k$
Yeah that’s crazy! I bet even cars with normal engines are expensive there then
@@Red5oh Yes, only cars manufactured in India are cheap
@@Red5oh That too ex showroom for the base variant. If you will go for the top variant on road it will be like 160,000$
I’m 5’11.
You should be fine. You’re almost same height as me. I think for longer trips TA difficult but occasional trip it’s doable
@@Red5oh bet. But I’m 15. And I’m 5’11 with shoes but I should be fine
@@Franciscooooo yeah I wouldn’t worry about it. Your head may touch the ceiling depending on how you sit lol.
A car without a useable backseat, nope. Ford should've discounted the Mustang and kept on with the Torino. Big inside matters.
Yeah the backseats cannot really accommodate adults maybe kids at best
I'd be embarrassed if I had an automatic 5.0
What do you drive that’s less embarrassing than auto 5.0?
an automatic transmission smh i dont understand ppl
Faster than manual and is more reliable than MT-82 lol
Red5oh i just dont think you are getting the sports car experience with an automatic transmission which in my opinion defeats the purpose of getting a sports car
@@thetruth8542 true to an extent but it all depends on what you’re prioritizing. If we had Tremec available then it’d be easier to get a manual
little late but do you think someone 5’7 would fit fine in the back?
Yes! You can easily fit as long as driver/passenger dont have their seats all the way back. It may not be the most comfortable place for long trips but it works just fine
@@Red5oh thank you!
