who ever designed the music was a genius, it has that age of empires/age of mythology feel to it, suit the time period (estimated time period), but also gives off the save/survive feel that the game give in the sense that the songs are motivating yet still have a "uncertainty" feel to them.
i always has this urge to play this game in harsh ugly autumn/winter time. not exactly snowy, but rain, drizzle, wind, darker colors, everything is going to prepare for winter. and thats when i love to play it.
It seems like you need to collect some stuff to prepare for the winter. Just not food and firewood like in the game but relaxation and inner peace. Have fun playing, i love the game as well.
It's watching the time go as you watch the gatherers harvest. Nothing more stressful seeing early winter and the crops start to die before they can be yielded. Also remember disease striking before my hospital was done...DEATH

My boyfriend played this game quite a bit in the earlier times of our relationship, I would doze off next to him to the soundtrack. When I miss him but need to sleep I come here. Beautiful soundtrack and so relaxing with sweet memories! It’s hard to describe the combo of the amazing atmosphere by itself and the safety and warmth the memories give💖 just love love love. One day I want to play it too.
This reminds me of the first time I ever managed to grow a village to over 100 people. I need more food, so I reassign my blacksmiths to gatherers, because they were never working because I was always at the tool cap. Fast forward two years People start getting cold during the winter. I don't understand why, I always had more than enough firewood. I find out my woodcutters are not working. Why? I have enough logs. They have no tools... Realize I never reassigned my blacksmiths back, when my food supply stabilized. Assign as many blacksmiths as possible. They can't work. They don't have any tools. So they can't make any tools. Quickly scan the village to see nobody has any tools. Realize that I can't recover from this, because without tools, I can't make tools to save anyone. Find out I saved 5 minutes ago and rewrote my only save. Quietly sit there for 10 minutes, watching the death notifications, saying goodbye to everybody., holding back the tears.

Funny game. Always been building a big hotel to shelter all people at start, and leave it as reserve for future in case of fires, etc. Because if you build them individual houses, some will take all the food from stock, and others will starve lol. Peoples...
The villagers are dying in the cold to cold to chop firewood and make a fire. The villagers are dying from starvation to hungry to got to the market or pick food

Damn, I had quite crazy experience with food last night. I used to have 60000 reserves of food and a surplus of around 1000 a year for a population of around 200 people. But I had the audacity to build a lot of houses and accept more than 50 nomads in less than 5 years. Result: My food reserves shrinked to around 400 in a few years and I had to remobilize half of my population solely to food production. Fortunately I was able to avoid a famine, but I got so close to one in the middle of winter that it scared the shit out of me. Seeing the reserves of food I had decline so fast and not being able to stabilize it no matter how many gatherer's hut, fishing docks, orchards, pastures and farms I built really freaked me out. Btw, Now that the crisis was averted, my population is of more than 400 people and half of them are employed in food production, 1/4 being solely on the fishing docks, orchards and gatherer's hut.
I play this game & its spiritual successor: life is feudal forest village. in forest village I've replaced one of the bgm into this full banished theme... XD
I loved this game, get more people, get more food, get more wood. Ah all good in the village, ah look at timmy (12) living with jennifer (19) and they have a kid jimmy (2)..... wait wha.....

+IDidSawABear Well said description :)
Anno 2070's soundtrack also has that underpinning of desperation in it. Really good soundtrack.

We all owe it to the glory of Dorian Mode and its ability to portray Light/Dark at the same time. Or something like that.
