- BIMM Birmingham recently hosted its very first masterclass with none-other than Sid Wilson (aka DJ Starscream) of Slipknot fame.
The Iowa-bred DJ is a member of the iconic nine-piece metal band who are known throughout America and Europe as one of the most energetic and controversial live acts in existence today. Having been nominated for ten grammy awards since the release of their eponymous debut album in 1999, Sid and his bandmates have mastered their niche and become a force to be reckoned with.

This is the same same guy who jumped like 20ft onto the stage and broke both of his heels and continued to perform. This guy is chill in my book.
He performed in a wheel chair when they hit my town.
Wtf😱😱😱😱🥵🤕
Dude does a lot of drugs anyway.
This guy jumped off almost everytime he could off the mid or top of the stage. Dude was or still is fucking nuts but a legend at best.
@Metal Head yes
Without a mask = He is a human (that's the reason we understand what he say)
With mask = Alien
With mask: drrrrrk tllllllllllka errrrrrrrr sttttaaaaaaaaaaa
Without mask: hello
Demon*
🤣
Legit channeling his star being soul fam :')
Now with mask: Welcome! (I refer to RE4 merchant by this)
If Jim root did a master class all you would hear is "ya know"
take a shot every time Jim says "y'know?"
Listen to sid he's the same
Record a conversation you have with someone and you’ll likely be surprised at how often you say “um” “uh” “yeah” “you know” or any variant of combination. I say “you know” and “incredibly” like they’re going out of style.
"This is my signature jazzmaster, ya know? All I need is my volume knob ya know"
He also says "something like that" a lot
Each and every band member of slipknot are insanely talented.
Jeez whats your issue? If anybody can do this why is there only one Slipknot and why arent you in a multi million band yourself if its so easy?
@StevePeeve Believe it or not, instruments are hard as hell to play right, especially if you play that one specific instrument for one of the worlds largest bands. Sid is a DJ, Chris is a percussionist/sound design leader. And each other member has their own talents, but you wouldn't be able to perceive that because you probably haven't touched an instrument in your life. So how about you go out there and spend a few years of your life learning how to play something, and then come back to judge.
@StevePeeve Yet you completely overlook the fact that he plays more than just a beer keg. He's now the lead sound designer for the band, helping their new songs sound very similar to iowa. He knows how to play a decent amount of guitar, and is a lead percussionist. Theres no need to lash out at Slipknot's members if you aren't willing to even consider the fact that they do more off stage then they do on stage.
@StevePeeve Shut the fuck up and go crawl back in your hole
@StevePeeve Have you ever heard Chris screaming?? That guy has the voice of a fuckin demon! Well, that when his mic isn't a piece of shit and you can hear him loud and clear, which is not always happening, sadly....
Basically, Sid is British. Both his parents were born in Britain and he spent a lot of his childhood living there. He still goes to Britain every year to visit his grandmother who's on her 90s.
But why his accent is so American?
@@lemagnifique1573 It’s the same thing with living in a certain area for an amount of time. He probably started developing his American accent and ‘lost’ his native accent.
He was born in Iowa, you goofball
@@death_throes They said he spent a lot of his childhood in Britain, they never said he was born there
British people be like "he came to britain once, so hes offically british now. Hes ours"
Hard to believe that this is the same guy that said, “ Sid, number 0, I’m thu deeeejjjaaaaeeee”
His voice is sooo peacefull when you think about the shit he does on stage with slipknot :D
smoke weed as much as he did - and you will pe also peacefull and cald as a saint man)
Or maybe he Is dozed, we will never know, XD
Sid seems so educated and chill here. So different from his stage presence lol, but that's what makes Slipknot great.
Wearing a mask slightly changes you behaviorally and psychologically, same as talking with an accent.
"pass it around" made him sound like a science teacher thats really excited about a rock and wants the whole class to see it
I bumped into Sid by total chance the other day, in London. He was perched on the side of the curb like a street performer with the same turntable he's using here, just jamming, for no other reason other than just cuz'. Being so inspired by Slipknot since my early teens, I don't think I've ever fan-girled to anyone as much as I did to him. He was very relaxed and kind towards me, as he is here. Despite his fame and success, he doesn't seem indulged by it - only gives a shit about the music. mad respect to him
Whoa lucky
@Jason Rangel87 If you want to be seen as an adult, don't type like an angry child.
@Jason Rangel87 Just because your life is boring doesn't mean you can bring others down.
@Jason Rangel87 Tells people to mind their business yet comments on someone else comment... Oh the irony.
@Jason Rangel87 Blatantly got anger issues or you're just an angsty 13 year old kiddie thinking he's an utter bad man. Grow up kid and mind your own business. 😂😂
it's like he's a completely different person when he's not wearing the mask
thegospelofmatilda Thats what it’s all about
thegospelofmatilda that’s the point bud
Bullshit dude.
That's the point of the masks
congrats. you figured out why they wear masks.
I wanna see Craig do a master class
Lol that would be cool but all he would do is press a key and not talk lol
He just sits there for an hour then leaves
@@TheUnknownReject exactly! That'd be fucking amazing
I’d just wanna hear him TALK😂
Since when was it ok to make jokes about mental problems, i act the same as him and i have aspergers and social anxiety disorder, i can't be certain about him though, maybe he just acts like that to play the weird character in the band.
This guy should be in Slipknot
Jasiel Quintana .
Yeah, he would be great.
Why lol ? He doesn't do anything, just scratching a desk
@@NoGate in their last album there are a lot of dj/sample work.
@Irfan Spirtovic what do you think 🙄
He looks like a cross between lil wayne and mark Wahlberg lol
Oh gosh.. Its so true.. Hahaha
Rob Shane
Dude you are so right. If lil Wayne was white , this would be him.
Every rappers name starts with "Lil" now. Like, when did that become such a big thing? And seriously, when are we gonna get a rapper called "Lil Bastard?"
Yes
He even talks calm like lil Wayne
Sid Wilson-“pass it around”😂😂😂😂
He's such a chill dude.
*hands around blunt*
I'm glad you picked up on that too
He's the only one in the band that looks like he was originally from Jackass
This is Sid Wilson and Welcome to Jackass... Breaks both heels
@@wusb8
“Everyone say ‘HI, SID!’ ..... Everyone say ‘YOU BROKE YOUR FUCKING FEET, SID!’ “
You mean, as if it's strange that the other members don't look they they're from Jackass? Brother, what is this comment about. Lmao.
@@Drexeh I mean, the rest of them at least look like just regular recovering drug addicts/alcoholics. Sid looks like he actively bites deer ankles
@@finley490 I'm pissing myself. Gonna steal the deer ankle line.
I love that he mentioned Joey. I think they're still good friends.
:( They probably were..
Rip Joey:(
Sid is a real DJ . Most of the mainstream so called DJ's are not .
Well he is a dj sooooo
@Director Owl they have no idea what they're talking about lol
@Director Owl lol
the only person i see this diss applying to is dj khaled lol
@@KevinGarcia-fq3su Exactly. He just shouts, "WE DA BEST MUSIC!" and "DJ KHALED!" in the middle of every song he's "featured" in and that's it
Dope DJ. That part in unsainted when Corey drops the Mike and Sid takes over is my fav
No doubt!
Brad Moberly wait when
3:00 into unsainted . I can't stop watching it . sickness!!
Nut Busting part... Everytime that part of the song hits i act like fucking DJ sid wilson scratching air
facts that breakdown is sic lol
Hearing his say they are punkrock makes me happy
🤘😠🤘
*enter angry Metalhead dialogue here*
Not YourBuisness lol
:3
Sonically they're hardly punk
This man is so wild on stage and yet soooo chill and laid back in person
This video has definitely reinforced my respect for Sid
I would love to hear sid on slipknot albums more. Metal with scratching hell yeah, need more of it
Check out the band Red Method
Vein is a good one to get in to.
just hearing him talk so calmly just makes it hard to believe this is the same Sid that is on stage with slipknot for the past 20years .lol crazy.
he's oddly adorable
Met this guy in Fresno, California at the rainbow ballroom waiting for A7X in early summer of '06, He invited us to IHOP after the show. Very cool dude.
Back in December 1999 they were there with Megadeth and ICP. Greatest show ever at the Rainbow ballroom.
This should be an hour long.
Absolutely
First time seeing Sid talking like human and not running : D
This was such a great interview. Sid just being real as fuck!
I can't see him without thinking about him not englishing and Corey yelling at him about it 😂😂
Speaking not english ya know???
Corey yelling at him 😂
I think he means extinguish like when they used to light them selves on fire
Like old marrieded ppl :') I'm pretty sure they're soul mates
@@troycarollo1874 No. He means him speaking with an alien dialect when he wears the mask. Obviously. Auto correct doesn't change extinguish to english btw.
Love his voice, has a relaxing ASMR quality to it
I was not expecting such an interesting talk, I really enjoyed this, a lot.
His voice is so asmr
Grandmaster Flash used to mark his records with crayon to try and find that little groove, really cool that he touched on the old school guys they were insanely skilled and Sid is a beast too.
4:11 and 4:40
I have NEVER gotten this choked up as a Musician/Producer/DJ
in my entire life!!!
Love it how he speaks 6 minutes of some of the wisest shit ever and ends it like ANYWAYS.. THATS IT.. THATS ME.. IM SID 😂
no tips on stage diving? clearly not a *master* class
"Here's how you break your heels in two easy steps.... "
I met Sid in Adelaide, Australia in a record store when Slipknot did the All Hope tour in 2008. He was really humble.
He is Definitely the missing link that launched slipknot to insane heights in the late 90s early 00s.... the band was raw energy and sids scratching and samples just made them stand alone... great stuff
Hes actually super humble and passionate great video 10/10
So much respect for sid and all the other guys from the band and also he seams like a chill dude in person
I think this is the best interview BIMM have done so far by far, maybe rivalled by the SiKtH interview they did a while ago. So excited to come again to the summer school this year.
So this is the crazy guy that jumps around on the live shows
I love how he smiling
Just as it started to get interesting.....then it ends!
His voice is devine.
Much respect to sid man, been into slipknot for about 15 years 👍 would love to see em live
THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR SHARING! I TOO HAVE BEEN ON A CRAZY PATH THAT HAS LED ME HERE!... WISH I HAD A BAND... SOLO...
I've known the band for a year and it's the first time I've heard Sid speak, I even heard Craig but never Sid, at least not so calm lmao
you heard CRAIG- i-
It's so funny to me how you heard Craig before you heard Sid lol
3:06 I laughed at his “Have Not”-“Slipknot” joke but nobody in that fucking audience made a sound ;_;
Please keep gifting the world with your talents. We appreciate you. 🤘🏼💪🏼
One of my favorite DJ's
I have deep love for each one of the band members.
Does this class includes dancing lessons as well? I love it when he dances 😆😆
His dances are legendary.. Only he can do them perfectly..
Great vid!
Saw Starscream at a couple raves back in the late 90's early 00's. This guy has a great knowledge of hardcore and jungle.
How does this channel only have 5k subs with videos like these? I really like this freestyle.
Organically grow, not massive spam on UA-cam feed
Sid is easily my favorite slipknot member still active
I know the guys in the band are all intellectually capable and brilliant guys but damn I would have never thought Sid would be such an eloquent speaker and centered man. Whole new respect to add onto to his musical abilities
*Yes lads*
Fun fact he's the youngest member of Slipknot but he looks like one of the oldest ,y? Drugs that's y
I think Jay's the youngest.
Unless you're talking about the OG Slipknot
Ahhhh lovely Sid.
I remember seeing slipknot for the first time in 2015 on the prepare for hell tour and sid was the stand out of an already incredible show running around the stage like a maniac and diving into the crowd grabbing as many hands as he could mine included. So awesome
Sid is cool af much ❤ for him!!!
I don't know about DJ but this guy certainly created his own dance XD Just look Killpop clip when this dude dances!
I really like the fact he gives Qbert his props 💯💯💯
I love Sid.
I love you sid
He's just awesome
L❤VE SID! SO GORGEOUS! Slipknot 4life 🤘
How does everything talk about tapping into something that is there already. I know that feeling 100% and what they mean, but it's so crazy to hear such a diverse range of musicians talking about this experience.
I would like to see the entire Master class.
Sid is the man. Only he could break his heels on the stage and keep playing the gig.
Brilliant ❤️
I love this man!!!! ❤️
I met Sid he is an awesome dude.
I got to see him play a jungle set at an underground party in Philly years ago. It was awesome, except for it being a warehouse in a sketchy part of town..
Pretty awesome when you hear Sid Wilson quote music the same as Jerry Garcia did. "I just play what's already in the air"
I never expected this to be this interesting :)
Thats awesome, i remember maybe in 2001 or 2 i think i saw MARZ open up for i think KORN and they (MARZ) introduced him as DJ Starscream from SLIPKNOT although he didnt have a mask on, he had a bandana covering his face....it was awesome
I want Sid to speak to the mic forever
I have that exact same super dry jacket and I swear it's one of !y favorites ever, even more so now that I see sid rocking it casually!
hearing from his perspective is cool as hell
cool interview
I can never think of his voice
Everyone from SlipKnot are insane love this guyz
Insane, and yes they are...
It is true that deep down of each members are true punk rock spirit,
Loves the fun stuff
see my son smile is a ray of sunshine 💖💞
I love these one on one interviews.. hearing something new from each member. I knew Paul started the band and his background but the name ‘Slipknot’ was to symbolise his prior band and the death of it.. was amazing to learn. The fact that Shawn started wearing a mask at practice which caused a domino effect within the band.
The annoying thing at the beginning for me with interviewers years ago was the focus on the masks.. their appearance, it’s only in recent years we’ve start to know the individuals of the band.
My highlight of following Slipknot was late December of 2009, I received a phone call from the guitarist of Black Dots of death which was a band Shawn formed back then.. probably a couple of years after To my surprise.. the guitar said to me that Shawn will be calling me in around 45 minutes for a chat.. the call come.. for around 15 minutes I spoke to Shawn, it was amazing I found out a lot about him as a person, the questions I had about To My surprise, Slipknot, we spoke about family, etc.. I’ll never forget that day.
Love the Autobots/Decepticon symbols on his hands👍
love the decepticon tattoo, DJ startscream......yeah I like this guy!
Starscream.
Now this audience looks really talented.
Beautiful hands sid
Cecilia Hendrick I love u do u have an instagram

Really calm voice? Great video
Awesome on ya Sid ⏺ All musicians are punks , so Metalheads like Slipknot ✌️🤘🏴🇦🇺
