    The sense of proportion is what I like in these guys. They don't try to overwhelm you with the technique, but every single beat or note they play makes you feel they are world class musicians.

      There's a bunch of stuff that those guys did(still do) that was really complex. When I hear that, I feel like they just having a blast without thinking about anything!

      Being a dynamic player is one of the most basic principles of good musicianship no matter the genre, and playing at ones peak even half of the time isn't dynamic at all.

      yup, mastering of dynamics is basic. The whole thing should tell a story somehow, be understandble.

    Nate Smith is a great in the pocket drummer. Really did a great job maintaining the groove with funky drum accents and syncopation. John Patitucci really put this together nicely. Very well coordinated overall feels with bringing the Bass lines with both Guitarist doing harmonies and solos. Nicely done.

      For my money, he is still the greatest. I think, because he has focused on stand up acoustic, he doesn't get as much press for his electric playing.

    • @georgefelton5433
      @georgefelton5433 5 років тому +1

      There are a lot more 6 string players out there who have built on what he and Anthony Jackson did in the early days... Not necessarily better players but with a different approach.@@fretbuzz59 . He's still one of my top three guys -not just on 6 but also on upright. His melodic approach is just wayyyy advanced...

    • @fretbuzz59
      @fretbuzz59 5 років тому +2

      @@georgefelton5433 I've always enjoyed his upright playing more, but he's gotten more soulful on electric over the years.

    hi i tune me gtrs to g and this vid just confirms my liking of the softness of the sound of the electric guitar not the guitar bass...these ones are supposed jazz ones but they sure sound squaky to my liking..the ONLY little "prob" with my low tuning seems to be the low E but i havent tried nearly all string brands types and tensions yet ...im working on it ambitiously with floating bridges and different types of springs ...the neck rods dont need much adj..its really about the tension of each string and then put together for the liking of me and you...

      Hm, not real familiar with that distortion unit you mention, but the first song, 0:00 on, sounds like he's got an octave device of some kind, throwing an octave up. After that initial part, you're probably right that he's got some distortion on there.

      The guitar is quiet in this mix. John’s bass us quite loud in this mix, but I get the impression from watching this, that John is kind of the center of focus, acoustically and visually to some extent, lol, I mean why is his shirt buttoned up all the way? Lol, kinda fits his nerdy personality anyway, I can groove on it.

I'm sure they're nice guys and all but I'd give anything to be up there on stage in their shoes and I guarantee that I'd put the fire to it because there is no room for slacking when it's on.
