  • This is an 8mm film I made in 1974. Most was taken in and around the derelict houses which is a shame as I could have shot so much more. Never the less, there are a few interesting shots which are worth a look. I think the family sat on their door step must have been one of the last to live here. Roads now gone are, Selbourne, Clarendon and School Road. The post code for the area is PO9 1LU if you wan,t to look on Google Maps.

    wow thanks for sharing this. was there a big house on the opposite side of the road to the waterworks and if so what was it called. i have come across an interesting photo taken from the air that seems to show one.

      Genevieve Connatty I remember a large derelict house where the Tanneries now stand, but it had been demolished when I took the film.

      was it a local manor house ? will see if I can find anything. looks quite large so probably had a name.

      Guessing it was a Victorian house called brocklands. the old wall along west street was part of the garden wall, now retaining the smaller newer properties that back onto west street. belonged to the Ward family at one point and had servants.
