  • Don't let the name fool you: the '60s Surfer™ pickup would be equally comfortable in the smoky clubs of Chicago's West Side as hanging ten at the Malibu Pier. The Antiquity II Surfer is hailed by many members of the Seymour Duncan User Group Forum as the ultimate pickup for vintage Strat® chime and quack. Whether you play Blues, West Side Soul, Surf, or Jangle Pop, the Surfer has the sweet highs and percussive lows to give you and your Strat a Free Ride on the Way Back Machine without sacrificing output or versatility.

    This is prob the best bridge tone I've heard on a single coil

    • @LeviBulger
      @LeviBulger 2 роки тому +3

      It's easily the best bridge pickup I've ever played and I've been playing Strats for about 20 years. When I first tried the surfers a few years ago, I was absolutely blown away, especially the bridge. It's just perfectly tuned with the right amount of power without sacrificing the inherent chime that we want in a strat tone. But because of the output being higher than a typical single coil, it still rips through an overdriven amp. Love these pickups.

    Great playing and sounds, but clearly so much processing done to the recording. Compression, stereo effects etc. A bit overboard for a pickup demo IMHO

    • @antonioalbares

      Crossed my mind, but you do get a solid representation of how the pickup sounds

      I4ve the neck and RW/RP middle in my strat and this demo was sound accurate to my ear
      They have a somewhat "scooped" sound 3:00 for exemple
      Its so hard to decide... there is so many option ...!
      For exemple maybe the Antiquity Texas would sound better on my strat..... v_v
      All I can say is when you get the box you feel like you bought some nice pickup :) :)

      @@Aniki82 Yea I had to shell out for another strat so I can have Surfs in one and Texas hot in other's neck, with SSL1 in middle and Quarter Pound in bridge. Basicly sacraficed all other non essentials to have my tone lol.

  • @ReviewMovieWorld1

    you can tell these are good when the bridge pickup actually sounds good on a strat for once. Thanks for not piercing my ears ;)

      That is easily cured by making sure the bridge is hooked up to a tone control! I have my SSS strats set up with s master tone and use to tone 2 as a bridge & neck blend pot.

    • @moimeme7839
      @moimeme7839 5 років тому

      ASAC Schrader that’s because you have to adjust the height correctly and turn the tone knob down almost half or more on normal strats most of the time. The bridge pickup on a strat is often the more output and you set your amp for the neck one probably. Also personnally I really prefer the sound of a strat with fuzz than with overdrive. Those guitars have a lot to offer stock but it’s a real pain learning to use them right😂😂😂😂 most people don’t even know the telecaster were intended to be played with half the volume or tone down I don’t remember wich one😂😂😂🤷‍♂️

    • @LeviBulger
      @LeviBulger 5 років тому +1

      Also, most people keep 9's and 10's on their strats. Way bright combination for tone, but I see the appeal because it makes playing and bending super easy. But throw 11's or higher on a strat, and it becomes a mean sounding guitar.

    Love Duncan pickups, I have a set of these. But there is WAY too much processing done to the sound on Duncan’s demo videos. Please stop doing this. A set of Surfers straight into an amp is NEVER going to give you the sounds you hear in this video.

      I agree. About as close to a late 50s / early 60s strat sound as you can possibly get without having the real things.. And without the worry of the pickups having lost their magnetism or being microphonic in any way from age degredation. There's just not a bad sound in these pickups; they've got some serous mojo. And I've always felt that when it comes to guitar pickups, you really do get what you pay for. These are no exception, best SC's I've ever used and I've also used a lot.

The bridge is a little hot, and the high end is a tad softer, but still carries a great vintage vibe. Just my $0.02.
