Some people are scared away by the name "surfer" attached to the pickups. Big mistake. These pickups are super versatile. I play blues, classic rock, country, and yes even surf. And they sound great on all of them. They have that great sparkle, jangle and fender bell tone on clean and they dirty up nicely with pedals and other tones. I have used many many many types of pickups over the years in my strat. So far these seem to be my all time favorite. I have the same set as this demo.

Yeah it's just like the lipstick pickups everyone thinks they suck and you gonna get a certain surf sound from them. It's really the opposite and you get great tone just like this if you know what is going on that surf tone is really alot to do with reverb not just the pickups

well a great local luthier helped me with that. Before i got them shielded, the hum noise was terrible!

I would try the surfers better. I tend to “dislike a bit most of the overwound pups. But it is just a matter of taste bro. And all Duncan’s are great quality :)
The interesting with the Antiquity pickups is it seems the “surfers” are better for the SRV tones than the Texas Hots. I assume it’s because the surfers use alnico 5 mags? The Texas hots use alnico 2.
Great observation bro. Well to my ears its about a combination of things, the first one it is because the surfers are NOT Overwound while the texas hots are. The second one its because the output from the surfers is a period correct vintage output while the texas hots being ovewound is higher than the pups of those years. And te third one is because of what you said about the mags, the alnico v has a different tone/voice/color from the alnico ii.

I would say tough that they feel and sound scoped the mid tone are a bit lower something that would look like this --__---- on an EQ

The bridge pickup is wound a little bit hotter than the neck and middle. Did you hear a noticeable difference in volume at the bridge at all?
Yes, normally in the 60s all the 3 pups would be the same pup. The antiquity ii surf normal set would be 3 of the same pups. But, there is a version that comes with a "custom bridge" that it is a bit hotter that the other two. Thats the set i got on this vid. I find the bridge pup very useful on this set. If you are getting the surfers, i would advice u to get set with the custom bridge. The difference is not in in "volume", you can compensate that with pup height. I believe that it is more on the tone, it is chimier than the pther 2.

At the moment I have the neck and middle almost touching the pickguard at the bass side, and a bit higher on the treble. But I don't get that lovely neck/middle sound that you have

I tried the surf pups in a high quality alder body with dark wood neck and they didn.t sound good...wantnt to get rid of them..then I tried them in a ash body with a rosewood neck and they sound completely different...just great tone..dont set them too high... Like this vid..its so strange ..but true..they are amazing pups.. good luck! Peer

I need some recommendations, I'm looking some Pearl Jam Strat's tone, I know Mike McCready has an original Fender 1960 Strat, I'm not sure if this set is the best option or I should consider another model/brand. All the demos I have seen they don't play using much gain, so that's why I can't decide.

Thanks man! I do my best on getting the tone…. Well for a Mccready tone this ones could get u very close in my opinion. They are very versatile, and sound awesome overall. Maybe the van zandts blues or vintage plus, or the sliders vintage 59s will also get u very close!

If it is deliberate or not at 5: 16~ 5:17 is an AC DC riff
would these be good for that rhcp funky tone?
I’ve had them and IMO they are a bit too dark for most of frusciante’s range of tones.
Maybe it was due the caps and pots I had in my strat though...

Definitely! if you like that type of tone, these pups will get you there! in the bridge/middle pup position they quack nicely and sweet! the custom bridge pup has a really nice tone without going on a to "hot" pup. It compensates the lack of vibration of the strings at the bottom of the strings giving you a great tone without losing volume relatively with the other pups.

Luis camilo Gomez I decided to order the ss1/5 set mostly because it’s guaranteed strat tone and it’s considerably cheaper that the antiquity set but will keep my eyes open for these guys case they do sound great. Thanks again

For the SRV/John Mayer tone (which you've nailed) would you recommend these or the Texas hots? These have a real spanky sound, sounds great, from what I've heard the Texas hots are a lot fatter

Que más bro, no se en medida, la verdad me senté un día entero a probar. La idea es espichas la cuerda 1 y 6 en el 12vo traste y las tocas, hay vas a escuchar si la cuerda le cuesta vibrar por q tiene mucha presión de los magnetos o si vibra libremente no se como explicártelo :s si necesitas ayuda busca algún tutorial de pickup height en UA-cam o be a donde un luthier. Cualquier duda acá estoy :)

No, they're reverse wound and reverse polarity. If they were "out of phase" it wouldn't sound very good.
What string are you using?
I use 12s and the tuning a half step down bro :)

Should be as good since maple and rosewood fretboard isn't that much tonally different

useless demo. more room sound and strings than anything else. dude you bought pickups for 100 usd each, spare 70 for a shure sm57 at least.
Well Yelp maybe, the idea it was to show how it sound with out any mix “help”…….. that’s how most of people on UA-cam do it, but I think that you can show what ever u want que you mix it…… so that’s why it was this way, is just straight through an iPhone…..
