Here's a little tip for you..... DON'T LET THEM TROT! Keep pushing them and get them tired. They can recharge if they are allowed to trot. And they are WAY more used to covering country than almost any saddle horse. Strategic positioning of relay riders and extra horses help keep them moving at a lope. You guys did well with the number of riders you had available.
I think that the main problem in their videos is that wild mustang have far better stamina than saddle horses. I've noticed it on their video when they tried to catch an escaped adopted mustang. That mare seem to have endless stamina compared to their horses. So they can't keep pushing as they need to make the mustang tired enough to catch her. As you said, a couple of extra horses and good plans could help.

@juliad4654 horses are much like dogs where they are the domesticated form of wild species. All horses are domesticated and do not have a place in nature, as they decimate lands and are highly invasive. Just like a stray dog except alot more capable and dangerous.
I'd love to see the movie but I'm disabled, I love watching all your round ups and adventures , when I was young I through caution to the wind and had a lot of fun, Intel I had a large crash on a horse and realized my kids need me alive. I want to see part 2 of catching that lone horse. Keep up the good work, guys😊

Oh my, what a lot of work. Starting to mentally be prepared to get these Feral horses......then, finding them. Then, herding them, when they have been so used to free ranging, and they know the land well. Its just a shame that they are going hungry, although those 9 look pretty good to me. I believe these horses are taken to slaughter pipeline that people are not aware off. It looks all fun to watch at the beginning. People on the reservation need to all come together and work on reducing their livestock’s especially in times of drought.
There is nothing inherently wrong with horse slaughter, horse meat is an excellent source of lean protein. We just need to bring it back to the US, that would eliminate the long-distance travel and various other welfare concerns. Plus, if US horses stay in the US, we retain full control over *how* they are slaughtered- Meaning that we can give these unwanted animals humane deaths.
I watched till the end and I heard you say they're going for adoption. If that's the truth then I'm so grateful to you for that and for saving the mustangs from starvation. Thank You.. You are all amazing horsemen and cowboys.
I have a cousin who has 4 children and two of them are horse rescue owners. They are both veterinarians and they pick up animals from auction and rescue from animal control in a few different states. They have found multi million dollar horses that are being sold for meat prices. One is a three year old mare who has won hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money until she was hurt and the owner sold her to someone who had no business owning a horse and they didn’t spend a cent on getting her better. She found it in a shelter foster who had lost their lease on the property so they needed a new home for her. She was sent to Tennessee to one of the rescues who got her healthy. She was able too race again and she has had several colts by using a brood mare to carry her fold

ive been watching you guys for a while now and it is very inspiring how you can do this i recently got a job at a horse farm and hopefully do roping or herding it would be so cool to experience something like this i have a horse of my own at home. not lomg till shes gone so hopefully ill get another one, one day so i can ride and feel free.
I`d love to be able to go to support you (great deal with the swag bag!) but I live in Spain. I think the round-up was a great initiative: at least those 9 lucky horses will no longer be scavenging for food, but will end up in great homes where they will be well cared for. Great job!

i spent a month between st george utah and salt lake city utah and i want to say about after a week, it dawned on me that im seein wild horses off of the interstates and highways.. i was like "wait there arent any fences out here. those r wild horses"

@@Tdotttttt they do. People will adopt them and train them, oftentimes to resell them. It’s like an investment for many trainers to take a fairly cheep, feral horse and to make them into well trained and well mannered horses.
My trainer owns a Navajo Pony and she is the best. I hate when people say mustangs shouldn't be caught and trained bc their lives are honestly so much better when someone cares for them.
A simple lure trap around the water is all it takes. its not rocket science and does not require helicopters anywhere. Better yet, stop killing all their natural predators. Or, pay the ranchers and Navajo to dart at lure traps with contraceptives. Not rocket science.

Being a rancher I would've thought the first thing you would've taught your buddy was proper land and water management. There are enough videos about pastoralists in India that turned bone dry , unusable land into lush, fertile soil that has changed there life hugely for the better. The first thing that I would do to that land is implement sufficient water traps and reinstating the natural vegetation which will provide sufficient grazing for the horses and other animals.
Lots of people don't understand that horses are native, that they are non-ruminants, that we need them. 1.4 million cattle in the desrt of NM. 94 Million cattle in the US an they out weigh and out poop us, using up our water to grow their alfalfa as they puff methane into the air. Hardly a horse to be seen in the deserts, just cattle.

You've got to have someone ride the point. If you give them something to chase, they'll follow. Obviously you've got to start far enough in front so they don't spook, but otherwise they'd follow you right in.

they aint going hungry-just competing with the Dibe (sheep) for food and Dine people dont eat horses so its food competition
