    The pears make an awesome crockpot cider that cans up beautifully when water bath canning for 10 minutes after it's ready. Good idea to borrow extra crockpot and do several batches at once to can. Check out vid from MOAT COTTAGE on it.

    'Onion Stock!' That sounds amazing, Liz. I'd be interested in how that's done. You said you "wash" the skins and ends" before processing for stock. Is it too late to do a video for 'that?' QUESTION: When you freeze the chopped onions, and bag them up, do they stick together in a lump...or do they freeze in individual bits? I never thought to freeze onions, but it'd be great. Being alone, and not needing a bagful...but not knowing how many I 'will' need , so many go bad before they get used up. It's be lovely to freeze 'em. Thanks for your response. : )

      Stock done and canned and on shelf, sorry.. I wash the onions before I used them to freeze, then I rinsed them all again and put them together with water to boil then simmer for about an hour before I strained off the liquid and canned it, but you could put it in containers and freeze it if that is more convenient for you. The onions when frozen do stick together a bit but I take any aggression I have out on the bag I hit it with my rolling pin or on the side of the cabinet that seems to break them apart.

      J Jo they can be chopped & frozen ice cube trays kept only for that purpose & when froze solid put in freezer bags.

      J Jo onion stock is great to add flavor to sauces gravies and rice too.

    I'm freezing the spring onions. I have is growing onion which gives green feathers early spring and in early September. Take a picture.

    Freezing onions is great for cooked meals. Just don't try to use defrosted onions on a sandwich or in a salad unless they're cooked first or you will not have a good meal.

    It would be better if you vacuum sealed the bags eliminate freezer burn.
