If it freezes in a brick I slam the bag on the floor or slap it down on the counter! Works like a charm! I freeze red, yellow and orange peppers as well to have on hand! Watch the sales!

The freezer can smell like onions for a bit but it doesn't last long after you get them bagged up 🙂
