- Because Vidalia onions don't keep as well as regular yellow onions I freeze them for pies, omelets, meatloaf, etc. They can be frozen without heating first but they will not keep as long in the freezer this way.

Thanks for watching. Your comments are always appreciated.
I learned both onions and pepper freezing instructions. I sure miss Phyllis. She was a breath of fresh air. Steven, you were lucky to have her.
I just discovered this wonderful woman only to find out she, and her husband, have passed. I will continue to view her informative videos and hope they both RIP
Awww.....me too, just the other day. Watched my first vid on freezing celery
She’ll live forever here
Very sorry to hear that, condolences to their family.
Yes, she was awesome. Learned many helpful tips from her.
Thank you Phyllis stokes for your useful and crafty videos. Best, Maria
@Phyllis: I just bought a bag of yellow onions from the grocery 6 days ago. Yesterday I grabbed one out to use and already it was going bad. I don't know if they were the last of last Fall's crop or what but I didnt want to lose them all along with my money
So I searched this on UA-cam, "How to freeze onions." Your video came up among others. I just watched it and I really enjoyed your video. Although I have never froze onions before, I do know I don't need to look further at more videos. I have followed you about a yr & 1/2 now, tried out many of your recipes, tips & tricks. You've never failed me yet. So tomorrow I'm going to follow your directions for freezing onions. I'm excited about the part that whenever I need onions all I have to do is reach into a bag of ready made. It saves time & money. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Miss Phyllis for this video. I've tried freezing yellow onions and they've always thawed out mushy. I'm going to do it this way from now on. I live in Mukwonago Wisconsin and once a year a gentleman from Georgia sells Vidalia onions in huge bags from a semi truck. I'm definitely going to buy some and freeze them like you taught us. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Ms. Phyllis; I recently discovered your channel, and watch two or three episodes a day. I'm a retired Systems Analyst, so this cooking thing is pretty new to me. Luckily, I have your videos, and a wife, who is an excellent cook in her own right. I was born the same year as you, 1945. Keep up the videos. Thanks, Elmo
I could watch you all day
Cheryl's Life ,let's move next door! I adore her!
I almost do watch her all day.
I sure miss seeing Phillis ! Still love the old shows.
I really like your ideas. Thanks a ton from Salzburg Austria
Once again another great video..Thank you..I plant anything I have that sprouts in a pot , including potatoes........They grow and grow and also the greens from the onion is chives..Just leave some chives on each onion so it will continue to live....Potatoes had the sun so cover the green growth with dirt. Yummy juicy potatoes are produced in the pots.
Awesome. My mom would have loved this. She was so conservative and loved to see someone trying to save money.
Thank you Phyllis, you and Mr Bucky are in my daily prayers. I hope you are feeling better
Your son and grandson are doing an awesome job on carrying on your channel. I know you are proud. Please say hello to God for me and thank him .. I too will see you soon.
Again teaching a old dog like new things thank u
Phyllis, thx so much for taking the time to make these very helpful videos.
Thank you, I did not know about cooking them a little before freezing. I would cut and bag and freeze them and my whole freezer would be taken over by the smell it was bad. Thank you again.
I've never frozen onions before, wow! I'm definitely learning something from you. Thank you so much sweet lady; God bless you.
I love my Vidalia Chopper. Thanks to your tips, I have plenty of onions in my freezer ready for use.
Thank you very much For all your videos.Accidently I came cross one and now I love to watch every thing.
I just found your wonderful helpful videos. I have learned so much about what can be frozen. Thank you.
Another great vid! I have one of those choppers and wouldn't want to be without it. I've had it for 7 or 8 years and have put it through the wringer and it's still performing for me. Sometimes I wish I had two of them when mine's in the dishwasher. You can find them at Kroger and Walgreens and places like that. It was one of the best $20 investments I've made!
Now, I'm off to check out your onion pie!
I watch your video's all the time. You're my favorite!
I learn so much from you.
btw, happy birthday January lady!
God bless you
I own one of those lil choppers....I LOVE IT!!! Thanks for your tips! 💖
Very good phyllis
Omg Phyllis I have that same knife that I had gotten at a local fair and ended up buying one for each of girls. I had gotten them in the late 80’s and its still sharp. Love it.
Thank you, Pam.
Thanks for sharing that Phyllis. I"m from SC, too and I love your videos!
bought vadallia chopper couple of weeks ago. love it!!!!!
I don't know when this video was recorded what I just got a hold of it and I can watch you all
You have the most calming voice I've ever heard
Thank you so much for that green pepper. I really appreciate!
Thanks Ms. Phyllis, I Love your videos. I enjoy Mr. Bucky, also. I have one just like him, married 46 years. He won't let me trash his recliner. Our mistake was buying a couch & recliner in "bonded leather". Before 3 years old both of them started cracking and peeling. We will never buy bonded leather again. I have listened to Mr. Bucky's devotional's and throughly enjoyed them. Have you started building your small home, not tiny house? I haven't seen any videos about your home, also have you sold your older home? I watch every video you tape and Thank you!
Everything is on hold now because Peppy is sick. He is familiar with our home here and the yard so we want him to live out his life here where everything is the same as he has always known. We took the house off the market in January to make the renovations on the inside of the RV. We finished the renovations in March and Peppy got sick in April - he has good days and some bad days.
I heat mine in the oven for 2-3 minutes then cool before freezing them.!it works great.
Oh Phyllis the skins would make wonderful onion broth, and can it.
Your gentle patient teaching demeanor is wonderful. You are very thorough and kind in the way you teach. Thank you!
Love this video. I cant wait to see your other videos. I'm going to try this tomorrow... Onion Pie???? Yummy!
Thanks! Awesome video taping and directions! Very clear and easy to follow. I greatly appreciate it! Happiness....
The compost heap will love all that goodness going in it!
I love my chopper, too! I didn't think it was going to be f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s, but I sure was wrong. I'd give up my good little paring knife before I'd give up the chopper.
Thanks, U R a great teacher.
do not buy walmart produce! they always tend to rott ,sprout very quickly after getting it to your home ,i got potatoes that are sprouting 1 week after i get them home , a sure sign that these are old potatoes .
+david freemen I have noticed that happening to my potatoes a LOT. And the weird thing is, it doesn't seem to matter where I get them from. I have a feeling stores all over are foisting their old potatoes on us! :/
Don't worry, You should to be happy your potatos be sprouting, because that means they have not been irradiated or treated with chemicals for avoid the sprouting.
I've noticed that Walmart produce seems to be lower quality than that of the (expensive) grocery stores. I buy most of my stuff at Walmart, but not much produce.
I get all my produce at Aldi. Meat at Kroger
macks Smith I get all my produce at Sprouts or Costco, never Walmart!
Thank you so much Phillis. You are great. I love your programmes
Greatest product ever. I buy 10 lbs at a time, use my same cutter and freeze them, then bag them, and cook with them just like they are, never had a problem. Ehere is the onion pie recipe?
So smart to cut the onion in half before you peel it.
TY, i didn't know that about onions!
thank you great help
good to know thanks for the trick!!!
You are a good cakemakeinglady
Nice tnks.
Phyllis,I didn't know you can freeze chips I noticed in your freezer ! Do they taste the same? Thank you for all your help an ideas.
The chips freeze very well, this way you can always have fresh tasting chips. They thaw in seconds.
I have not noticed it changing the way they taste.
You are good. I like fast forwarding
Whar type of knife do you use?
Merci!
Why not plant the sprouted one's?
Wher u.buy containers
Love this thank you ❤️
How long do the onions last in the freezer bags and do they not loose their favor? Have you ever vacuum sealed any?
Never used a vacuum sealer, the onions do loose some of their flavor.
🙏🇺🇸🧘♀️👍🇺🇸🇨🇱
Love this idea for the onions!
How you make onion pie?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING.
Phyllis, can you blanch the onions like you did your celery or do you have to do them in oil?
P.S. I got my slicer at Walgreens.
How long can this last in the freezer?
Can i also do this with red onions?

WE LOVE YOU MISS PHYLLIS, you're A GREAT COOK, CHEIF, IT SHOULD BE CALLED PHYLLIS*S KITCHEN! WE LOVE MISS PHYLLIS, GOD BLESS MISS PHYLLIS AND HER SON STEVEN, AND HER DAUGHTER RENEE, AND HER GRANDKIDS GOD BLESS THE WHOLE FAMILY AMEN.
Untimely death. Giggles!!! They only live 24 hrs so i reckon its about timely. 😜
Phyllis, God love you, I really enjoy your videos and I've learned a lot. But, you really need to get a non-metal spatula or 3 or 4. And, please stop banging spoons and such on the side of a bowl. In many cases, your pot/bowl is closer to the camera than you are. So that banging and scraping is pretty loud and unpleasant. It would also be helpful if you would keep a towel or something on the tile counter to receive empty pots/bowls/cookie sheets. The sound effects of those items clanging down on the counter are not pleasant. Please don't think I am being a snot. This is meant to be helpful, not to be critical or mean.
Oh, fer god's sakes....
I bet you're a real hoot at parties. If it bothers you then don't watch.
I know, right? There's always at least one in a bunch. SMH!
I've looked at a lot of your videos on freezing veg, they are great, I was dumping a whole lot of veg because the quantities I had to buy were too large for me to use, these vids will save me a fortune over time....Phyllis I thank you...
Thank you for all your tips on freezing vegies.
Miss Phyllis I am still coming back to your channel to hear your sweet voice and get your instructions. Lovin and missin you and Mr Bucky
You must be a mind reader. We have gotten so we only like Vidalia Onions, and as you know the season is short. I was thinking I'd try buying a huge batch and putting them trough the food processor, and I didn't even know about heating them before freezing. Thanks so much, now I know what to do. Saved by the bell :)
U are so missed sweet lady RIP🙏😇😌😢☺️
ooooohhhhhh, glad i watched this on Vadelia's! Thank you Mrs. Phyllis!! I'm doing mine like yours!
Just wanna say ,thank you.
I am so thankful for these videos ❤️
I have been watching you freeze green peppers and you make it so easy and now I am going to learn onions. You are great. thank you
Isn't that Chopper wonderful! They have these in different ones at Bed Bath & Beyond too. I got a really Nifty one from QVC I just love
Great tip! Thanks so much! I am working on chopping and either dehydrating or freezing stuff right now so this helps a ton!
Thank you so much, I’m going to a farmers market in a day or two and you gave me so much information , now I will know how to keep them!
Thank you so very much for sharing your informative tips. You have taught me so much! Blessings!
Our girl did not know how helpful her videos are I am so thankful for these videos right now with the Coronavirus thing going on I am so thankful to Phyllis, God bless Phyllis. Let's all pray for the world.
Hi I freeze a lot of veg. Never did onions. Thanks learnt something new.also plant the root side of it God bless you. Take care. Lots of love from sunny South Africa.
Another quick way to cool your onions (or any food) is to spread them out on a jelly roll pan. This also allows the onions to release a lot of excess moisture in the form of steam so there is less crystallization in the freezing process. God bless, you Steve, for keeping your mom's channel and her legacy going.
Thank you Debby for your kind words. I love to read the comments. Phyllis
Thank you Phyllis for that tutorial on freezing onions. Never knew they could be frozen!! If I slice them instead of cube size would that be ok? I'd use them in French onion soup. Never tasted an onion pie....is that a southern thing? I'd also use the slices in beef stew. thanks Phyllis... By the way...did you ever catch that 4th fruit fly with that "damp paper towel"?? I was hysterical when you said that he would meet his untimely death...:)
Do whom it may be concerned and I say this with always and of course the upmost respect she is so gypsy I myself am a gypsy she'll be missed rest in peace
what I started to do is chop onion in my chef chopper then dump them into kitchenaid with chop meat to mix. then I press them into 5 oz. burgers and freeze in foodsaver bags.
+bruce p That's a great idea
After you pulled them out of the freezer and put them in the plastic container, where did you put the container... in the fridge, the freezer and just leave them out till you use them?
I have one of those and I love it. I also have the Fasta Pasta which is a slick item also. Both are found on Amazon.
I love your videos we have a garden and I am not a canner Thanks and I got my chopper at aldis grocery for $10
Fantastic
Thanks Phyllis you taught me something once again!!!
Thanks for the video, Ms. Phyllis. I've been able to extend the storage of Vidalia onions by wrapping them (unpeeled) in aluminum foil and storing them in the vegetable bin in the refrigerator. Got that tip from my Aunt Connie several years ago.
I never ate better than when I was a kid visiting my grandma in Georgia. My mom could cook the same but you just can't get some of this food. I'll turn my wife into a southerner yet! God bless you.
You can put that root part of that onion in little water it will re-grow
or lay it on damp dirt

Hey Phyllis I have one of these Choppers and I love it.
Like the onions too
Good video!
I eat a lot of baked potatoes and they're great with sauteed onions but rarely have them on hand. Will freeze a supply.
What setting do you use to heat the onions? Do you heat the oil first or just coat the bottom of the pan and add the onions and then turn on the burner?
I just guessing at this, I probably cut the burner on to warm the pan and keep the pan on medium.
Never heard of Onion pie.
I pulled the trigger on the Vidalia Chopper: Love it! I have RA and this really help out Thanks Phyllis.
