[HOW TO] Install a Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller In a 2019+ Silverado/Sierra

My 2022 Silverado did not come equipped with the factory trailer brake controller. I tow a few different trailers for work on occasion, all are equipped with trailer brakes, and up until now, I had no way to control them. There are a LOT of aftermarket trailer brake controllers. I wanted one that was fairly incognito and simple to use. The Redarc Tow-Pro is both. Wiring the controller is pretty straight forward, GM has a pre-wire harness under the dash, and usually supplies a pigtail to connect to. Simply wiring the pigtail to the Redarc wiring harness and then plugging all the components together.

The connector you removed from the square blank looks identical to the stock controller. It appears the truck is prewired and the switch just needs to be installed. I can't say for certain. I'm only assuming it would work that way because that's how I installed power folding mirrors on my 2017, the wiring harnesses was already there, I just installed the switch with the power folding option and it worked. Nice install though, mostly with the accelerometer module, that's a neat feature.

Yes the wiring provision is there for the factory tow controller. However the programming in the BCM and dash cluster is not. Others have tried installing the factory brake controller only to left empty handed when it doesn’t work without custom programming, at which point I don’t think anyone does. Thanks for watching. The Redarc controller works wonderfully. Set it and forget it.

I honestly haven’t had to use it yet! I know a damn shame. But I haven’t needed my work trailer in a while so I haven’t been able to really test it out.
