The title of this episode is not "inspired by fine ancient literature"..... it's actually a reference to the James Bond movie "Never Say Never Again"! lol
I’m Alan Partridge is written by Steve Coogan (Alan!), Armando Iannucci (the creator of ‘Veep’ on US TV) and one of my heroes, Peter Baynham (writer on Borat and loads of tv/movies). A great team! I think the fact that you only get 50% of the jokes due to dense British references and still find Alan funny is a testament to how great he is as a character!😂😂😂
Roy from Caistor St Edmonds is also the Roy with the Makita drill,. I used to live in Norwich, Norfolk and we moved there mostly because of Alan Partridge.
Yep. You need to watch the Craig era Bonds. More realism and stronger characterisation than the older ones, but still lots of references to the Bond universe. 1 Casino Royale, 2 Skyfall, 3 Spectre, 4 Quantum of Solace, 5 No time to die in order of excellence.
Live and Let die was my favourite 'Bond'. Many years later got to see Paul Mccartney play the theme song at Glastonbury on the Pyramid stage. Stood in the pi$$ing down rain drinking cider and watching the synchronised fireworks to my favourite Bond film.
Just so you know, 'The Archers' is a long-running BBC Radio 4 daytime soap opera, set in the fictional village of Ambridge. It's been going since the '50s!
Not only have I seen all the James Bond movies...multiple times...I watched all of them on the big screen when they were given re-releases to celebrate the 60th anniversary.
Do one from each Bond. I’d choose You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The SpyWho Loved Me, The Living Daylights, Tomorrow Never Dies and Skyfall. Sure you can sit through 6 films of pure escapism Spencer!
This is just what I need some quality Alan Partridge thanks guys been out shopping come home exhausted flopped in the chair and watch this with you❤thank you
Same here, but I do like some of the other ones aswell. He was also in 007 Nightfire which me and a mate played a lot, aswell as the story levels alone too
The Spy who loved me. 100% the best Bond film. 1970’s discofunk soundtrack. The drop dead gorgeous Barbara Bach. The best Bond car ever, Lotus Esprit. The introduction of the imposing, charasmatic, yet comedic villain, Jaws. Quite superb. Although as a 51 year old my bias is always gonna be towards the late, great Roger Moore.
The guy who plays Tex is Peter Serafinowicz, he has appeared in loads of stuff, is brilliant with voices and voiced Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace. He was in an episode of 8 out of 10 cats do countdown where he came out with a brilliant response to Jimmy’s question “So Peter, are you a fan of word games?”
Get him to watch The Spy Who Loved Me from 1977, which is the one Alan is explaining the plot of and Michael spoils it. It's got the best Bond Theme and has some great action and comedy moments too.
How long to watch franchises? Lord of the Rings/Hobbit: 20 hours 24 minutes (extended edition) 6 movies Harry Potter: 19 hours 39 minutes 8 movies (add 6 hours 49 miniutes for the 3 Fantastic Beasts movies) Star Wars: 25 hours 7 minutes 11 movies James Bond: 54 hours+ 26 movies
The episode titles from both seasons are based on films which go along with the episode theme. In this case it's based on James bond 'never say never again'
I always thought that it would have been more appropriate if Roger Moore was the name of the actual character in the films since that was practically a big part of what often happened
Well, not nobody. But it would mostly be pensioners or people on a fixed income who would be right in the shit if they got into an unauthorised overdraft.
I love that Partridge manages to carry across the Atlantic, it’s such a British character with so many British references. Also the continuity from The Day Today in the 90s right through to This Time, and the audiobooks, there can’t be many characters that have managed THAT longevity. It helped when the Gibbons’ got on board but it misses Ianucci’s touch I think.
Spencer needs to check out 'You only Live Twice', (1967) which Sean Connery starred in and was shot in Tokyo, or 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977), which starred Roger Moore and features one of Bond's most iconic scenes, where he skied off the side of a mountain and as he's freefalling to his death his Union Jack parachute suddenly pops open (the whole cinema errupted in applause when that happend), and it has Carly Simon singing 'Nobody Does it Better', which is a classic Bond tune. As for Brosnan as Bond, Nooooooooo! He drove a BMW and wore a Seiko watch, ffs! ...Ps. I wrote this half way through your reaction and have just realised I've turned into Alan partridge. Help!
100% agree. It’s the best Bond movie. Telly Savalas as Blofeld is fantastic and the story is gripping from beginning to end. The Daniel Craig era story arc cribs a lot from the Lazenby-Rigg dynamic as well. It’s one of those strange movies that seems underrated but widely appreciated at the same time.
The tab thing is just Alan trying to respond negatively to the tall guy's americanisms; he says "put it on my tab" where the UK version that Alan prefers is "put it on the slate."
Never understood why "route" is always pronounced "Rowt" in the USA except when it comes to the song "Route 66", when it's pronounced "Root". Or, as we Brits would say, pronounced correctly! 😂
Same here, I started off with Pearce Brosnan as James Bond and he was in a lot of the games and films I grew up with, so I’d have to agree. Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Daniel Craig were some of my other favourites too, I haven’t seen all the bond films but there was definitely a phase as a kid where I watched loads of them
A tab over here usually means any mate who works somewhere you can get away with grifting credit off of regardless of whether you intend to pay it back or not
Spencer should definitely watch all the old James Bond films from the start. If only to understand the references in Austin Powers more. And they're great films too. I'd say all of them from Dr No (1962) through to A View To A Kill (1985) are the best. My top three would be... 1 - 'From Russia With Love (1963) - a great cold war thriller with the lovely Daniela Bianchi - 2 - Goldfinger (1964) - lots of great gadgets and Oddjob - 3 - Dr No (1962) - The original with plenty of humour and Ursula Andress. I grew up watching re-runs of them as I'm not quite that old. For me the post 1985 ones are a bit of a mixed bag. And an inspired prediction from Daniel there.🤣
If you react to a Bond movie, it kinda has to be The Spy Who Loved Me for many reasons. Would be a great segue from this episode, you get to see that opening play out. It’s also the most fun, most Bondy Bond movie of them all. It’s the one that Austin Powers takes the most inspiration from, by far.
Winter 2022/3 we did all the Bonds (it got tough, but we pushed through. I think Dalton and Brosnan were the worst). Then we did all the Mission Impossibles.
Casino royale is the best bond film ever, daniel craig is a brilliant bond. The newer ones are more real and brutal with some amazing stunts and effects. Mi6 blows up!!!!
I think Tex has a romanticized vision of the US based in the 1970s, Convoy was a hit record by C W McCall in 1976 about US truck drivers and a craze at the time for citizens band radio, a kind of primitive precursor of mobile phones. It spread over to the UK and was a big thing in the media and tv shows at the time and I think there was also a film based on the record imaginatively called Convoy.
You guys should watch some other Steve Googan stuff. I love Paul/Pauline Calf, Saxondale (American car content), coogan's run a lesser watched series, different character in each episode, my favourite being Gareth Cheeseman :)
10:30 Lol no worries I like the rants! That’s how I learn about things from your perspective Over here in Scotland you do get the odd kilt or two, mainly in cities, but you do get a lot of tourists kitted out head to toe with some really cheap knock off tartan too. Most regular people don’t look like that
The opening scene with Alan talking over top in available on UA-cam, definitely worth a reaction. Alan complaining about people getting Bond wrong then immediately gets Bond wrong, the bad guys are wearing black suits with red piping not lemon.
When British people say they like everything American...they usually mean what they've seen in the movies. I've few British mates that have lived there though, and they liked it....and the people.
I can still get a tab in my local pub and corner shop now. That’s working class mining communities for you. You have to know the owner but towns where money is short is where community is king.
I'm not sure if its been mentiioned, but you guys need to react to, "knowing me knowing you", and "the day today" to see the birth of Mr Partridge. Oh and brass eye.
The title of this episode is not "inspired by fine ancient literature"..... it's actually a reference to the James Bond movie
"Never Say Never Again"! lol

“I don’t agree. He’d go to legoland. Bye”.
Roy from Caistor St Edmonds is also the Roy with the Makita drill,.
I used to live in Norwich, Norfolk and we moved there mostly because of Alan Partridge.
I'm shocked! I thought everyone on the planet had seen at least one Bond movie. It's one of the biggest franchises ever.
One has to make a conscious effort to have never seen a Bond movie by middle age.
I TOO thought WOW! How can anyone NOT have watched a Bond film ??? 😂 Un-f_cking-believable.... 😅😅😅
Nobody has a slate at a petrol station...that's one aspect of Alan having not "bounced back".
Tony Hadley, lead singer of Spandau Ballet
Steve coogans other series saxondale is worth a look as well
Casino Royale is the best intro to Bond IMO. Craig nails it and it's a good stand-alone film.
Yep. You need to watch the Craig era Bonds. More realism and stronger characterisation than the older ones, but still lots of references to the Bond universe. 1 Casino Royale, 2 Skyfall, 3 Spectre, 4 Quantum of Solace, 5 No time to die in order of excellence.
@@Cleow33 I think 'excellence' only applies to the first two in your list.
Live and Let die was my favourite 'Bond'. Many years later got to see Paul Mccartney play the theme song at Glastonbury on the Pyramid stage. Stood in the pi$$ing down rain drinking cider and watching the synchronised fireworks to my favourite Bond film.

There’s a video on UA-cam where someone has edited Partridge’s Bond commentary over the actual movie and it fits perfectly😂 well worth a look
Do one from each Bond. I’d choose You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The SpyWho Loved Me, The Living Daylights, Tomorrow Never Dies and Skyfall. Sure you can sit through 6 films of pure escapism Spencer!
That's an interesting approach to the venture👍
This is just what I need some quality Alan Partridge thanks guys been out shopping come home exhausted flopped in the chair and watch this with you❤thank you
Id order a takeaway now...
Pierce Brosnan is my Bond as well! Goldeneye on N64 was a big reason, but also he was just Bond while I was growing up.
Same here, but I do like some of the other ones aswell. He was also in 007 Nightfire which me and a mate played a lot, aswell as the story levels alone too
Once Alan’d, Never Forgotten
You need to check out Bottom from the excellent UK comedy archives
The Spy who loved me.
100% the best Bond film.
1970’s discofunk soundtrack.
The drop dead gorgeous Barbara Bach.
The best Bond car ever, Lotus Esprit.
The introduction of the imposing, charasmatic, yet comedic villain, Jaws.

If you want more of Alan Partridge 'on the radio', you should find the Mid Morning Matters tv shows. That's all it is and it's awesome
Thanks for saving me typing this up 😄 👍🏻
I don't think that's any of your business😂
His own series was brilliant especially his Beatles sketches & poirot & marples
The Archers is a decades long running radio soap here in the uk…
And they are indeed, a mixed bag..
it's a soap opera but on radio not on TV
@@paulhynes170 isn’t that what i said?
Get him to watch The Spy Who Loved Me from 1977, which is the one Alan is explaining the plot of and Michael spoils it. It's got the best Bond Theme and has some great action and comedy moments too.
Skyfall is one of the best films of all time. Not just of Bond films, but films in general. Daniel Craig knocks it outta the park.
I didn't watch it due to not liking the Craig 'gritty' Bond. Should I give Skyfall a go then?
How long to watch franchises?
Lord of the Rings/Hobbit: 20 hours 24 minutes (extended edition) 6 movies
Harry Potter: 19 hours 39 minutes 8 movies (add 6 hours 49 miniutes for the 3 Fantastic Beasts movies)

James Bond: 54 hours+ 26 movies
The episode titles from both seasons are based on films which go along with the episode theme. In this case it's based on James bond 'never say never again'
Peter Serafinowicz as Tex also known as The Tick in the US TV series and the housemate in Shaun of the Dead.
And the Scouser in the Gentlemen series.
And Darth Maul (voice)
And Nova Corps Officer Garthan Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy
'the recessed lettering; which would also collect crumbs.' XD amazing
My fav episode ❤
I always thought that it would have been more appropriate if Roger Moore was the name of the actual character in the films since that was practically a big part of what often happened
Someone made a vid combining Alan's Bond rant and film footage. Hilarious 😂
and it syncs perfectly.
@@emmanuelmartin1238 💯😄
Nobody here in the UK had a tab/slate as recently as 2002. It dates back to local corner shops and pretty much died out in the late 70s.
Well, not nobody. But it would mostly be pensioners or people on a fixed income who would be right in the shit if they got into an unauthorised overdraft.
All the corner shops near me keep tabs for people 😂
Nonsense
Now watch the video where it’s Alan’s monologue over the actual start of the film 😂
I love that Partridge manages to carry across the Atlantic, it’s such a British character with so many British references.

"Tex" was the city boy roommate in Shaun of the Dead
And the voice of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace.
And the star of The Peter Serafinowicz Show, which is well worth a look!
Steve coogan had a thing with Courtney Love. Alan Partridge and Kurt Cobain's ex. Madness.
How have you not seen a Bond? I even watched one with a friend in communist Poland with subtitles late 80's lol
Tex is meant to be a Brit who's just a big fan of Americana. He's played by a very famous dude who pops up in Guardians Of The Galaxy and John Wick 4
Also plays Shaun (of the Dead’s) flat mate!
And the voice of Darth Maul
@@mikegloady And married to Sarah Alexander... lucky guy!
Can't beat Partridge. Best comedy ever written.
I really would recommend you guys watch the new Bond movies.
“Was that a Snub nosed Uzi?”
VHS tapes had a little tab and if you snapped it off, you couldn't record over it.
I recommend the Lazenby Bond Film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service featuring the most beautiful woman that ever was, Diana Rigg.
Norfolk's Maddest Man 😂
I love it that your comment has "translate to English "😂.
The tab thing is just Alan trying to respond negatively to the tall guy's americanisms; he says "put it on my tab" where the UK version that Alan prefers is "put it on the slate."
be great to review the bond films!
Live and let die is probably the best first Bond, its a little cheesy with all the best tropes that a bond film needs.
Never understood why "route" is always pronounced "Rowt" in the USA except when it comes to the song "Route 66", when it's pronounced "Root". Or, as we Brits would say, pronounced correctly! 😂
Or "llwybr" as they say in Welsh.
Casino royale with Daniel Craig, best one!
Same here, I started off with Pearce Brosnan as James Bond and he was in a lot of the games and films I grew up with, so I’d have to agree. 'Come on John let's go to Sprowston' I grew up there so always makes me laugh, Norfolks maddest man best line ever!
I’m like Alan Partridge with Bond. I can name all 25 movies in order.
There is 385 hours of Doctor Who so far, plus spin-offs, non-canon films and audio productions. Basically over 60 years of production.
A tab over here usually means any mate who works somewhere you can get away with grifting credit off of regardless of whether you intend to pay it back or not
“Licence to kill” with the “ll” pronounced the Welsh way is a niche joke!
Lol a monkey is £500 but a pony is actually £25, not £150... the builder was on the make there:)
Moonraker
You're burning through these, must be true love.

They normally have a couple of different bond films on over Christmas each year in the UK.
connery was the best bond but my fav bond films starred roger moore
and goldeneye on the n64 is one of the goats of video games imo

Alan’s had his best friend Dan, now it’s Michaels turn and Alan’s karma for abandoning him before
The Lego pieces leave an imprint in the sole of your foot!

2:37 I think they did, or at least in the year 2000 anyway, I do remember some sort of Lego land area, but idk if it was part of something else
GoldFinger 😎 James Bond
I can't imagine anyone having a tab with a service station, I've had a few local shops that allowed it though.
Live and Let Die and also Goldeneye
You guys should watch some other Steve Googan stuff. I love Paul/Pauline Calf, Saxondale (American car content), coogan's run a lesser watched series, different character in each episode, my favourite being Gareth Cheeseman :)
All the episode titles are movie titles with one word replaced by Alan.

alan would have to start about 12 hours earlier these days with all the extra bonds made since lol
Or the episode could be named after Never Say Never Again - the Bond movie ;)
the new james bonds are fantastic even the old ones are great
Chaps! After that Alan reenactment you have to now watch "The Spy Who Loved Me" or at least the opening credit sequence.
The opening scene with Alan talking over top in available on UA-cam, definitely worth a reaction.
Alan complaining about people getting Bond wrong then immediately gets Bond wrong, the bad guys are wearing black suits with red piping not lemon.
"Bond isn't that big in the States" 😂
So, according to google, to watch all the available Star Trek content would take 35 days, non-stop. Doctor Who is only about half that.
When British people say they like everything American...they usually mean what they've seen in the movies. I've few British mates that have lived there though, and they liked it....and the people.

You gotta start at the beginning, Dr No !!!!
I can still get a tab in my local pub and corner shop now. That’s working class mining communities for you. You have to know the owner but towns where money is short is where community is king.
I've never seen all of the bond films in a row, but I'm sure I've seen all of them at least once
"Whoever wrote this character", well he did. Steve Coogan, the actor that plays the character.
I'm not sure if its been mentiioned, but you guys need to react to, "knowing me knowing you", and "the day today" to see the birth of Mr Partridge.

After this episode maybe you guys should watch The Spy Who Loved Me & see just how accurate Alan is 😂
Love this series guys 🤣👍🏻👌🏻🤌🏻 i have watched every single james bond, the last great bond was casino royale 2006 👍🏻❤️🇬🇧
Now you got norfolks’s maddest man 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤌🏻
