    Gary Wilmot, Sue Cook, Bill Oddie and many other names that Alan refers to are likely to be unknown to you guys as they were usually relatively minor UK celebrities during the time the shows were made. And are a fair indication of Alan's own limited level of fictitious fame. So, if you hear the name of someone that you haven't heard of before, just presume that they are a Partridge level tv presenter, comedian, or actor and you'll be pretty much clued up.

    Knowing you have enjoyed Dibnah and Guy Martin, I suggest you try a chap called Jack Hargreaves. He had a couple of tv series "Out of Town" and "In the Country", they were all shot on 16mm with a voice over added later by Jack, who gave and intro and outro from his shed, they came as a half hour program, each featuring 2 reports. They feature traditional country skills and crafts that were disappearing when he filmed them in the 70's. He also was part of an ensemble in a kids show called "How ?" which was hugely popular.

  • @j0hnf_uk
    @j0hnf_uk Місяць тому

    Independent local radio in the UK, particularly in the 70's and 80's was kind of semi-professional. Although, it wasn't necessarily the DJs fault more the material they had to work with. Norfolk, like a lot of parochial backwaters, tended not to have a great deal of, 'exciting', stuff going on in them, and so the radio station that covered the area had to try, sometimes desperately, to, 'sex up', things a bit, in order to try and interest listeners. You could almost argue that, in some ways, they were kind of 10 years behind everyone else as far as presentation was concerned. 'Norfolk's youngest butcher', was a feature in one show, because somehow, that's about as interesting as it gets. So, they'd try to spice things up a bit in any way they could. Which is why a lot of the jingles and sound bites used tended to be a little bit over the top for what is supposed to be local radio. You really had to experience it, back in the day, to really understand how it all worked. And, a lot of them actually did pretty well, it has to be said. But, they did have their moments.
    Alan Partridge is a parody of certain British TV presenters. The ones which immediately spring to mind are Richard Madeley and Michael Rodd.

    • @Tomurow
      @Tomurow Місяць тому

      The (Blue Peter) cocaine thing was well before his Partridge-style rebirth on The Big Breakfast. In fairness to Bacon he was clearly trying to play a Partridgian character, which is perhaps why he's never cited as an 'Accidental Partridge' - more like a 'Mostly-Deiliberate Partridge' - but yeah, it's a dangerous game to play and the line is f**king blurry...!
