ProTip for #1 - Have the opening of your pocket toward the spine, not the open edge of the journal. That way if stuff shifts around loosely, it will still be secure in your journal and won't be at risk for falling out.
I love the envelope slot! For me though, I'd put the opening of the slot towards the inside of the notebook just to make sure nothing falls out. I'm definitely gonna try this out!
Nicole Smith more so a planner! I would love to have the time or energy to draw and put stickers and note sticky thingys on it... lol 😓 Plus I usually forget about it after about a week. 🤷🏻♀️ lol I guess some people are just better at it.
Mai2727 Such good advice! I’m doing a bujo and will keep it minimal and when I have time (if I have time) I’ll doodle in it. I started journaling last year, and for the first three months I used crazy colors and themes. Now I keep it black and white except for my color coding. So much easier than the pretty ones
As a current graphic design college student and an avid journal-writer, these hacks are gonna be so helpful for my everyday busy life. Not to mention catering to my aesthetic needs lol. Thank you Ann!! And can't wait for your journal prototype video!! 💕💕
I love everything, my fav was the pull-out page. What I discovered was drawing a flower near the cover page of my journal and every time before I journal I will add to the same flower drawing. It looks like a super cool flower now.
Amazing! I have been using various time management tools for over 20 years and am now getting excited by bullet journals! I love your DIY ideas! Thanks for sharing...
Custom it so you only need to do what you want to. You can make it as minimalistic or inconsistent as you want. Not keeping up with it is a sign that u are not using the perfect things for u. Change up some spreads or try new ones. Sometimes even changing the layout is enough
@@moonchild-uu4ty good advise!:) I have a separate calendar for using as a planner (it's diy on a sketchbook, because I couldn't find one that would suit my needs). My bullet journal is for trackers and certain notes + goals, and mostly my trackers are just boxes I can color in whenever I've done the thing. My walking tracker looks like a board game. Using lots of colors makes me happy, so I try to use them in my journal to make using it more fun.
First time I watched Ann's video on journaling tips and was very inspired by the ideas shown. I just retired and am already so busy with a new life, I need a bit of organization to keep things from falling off my radar.
If you want thicker pages in your bullet journal, I recommend using an Archer & Olive or Lemome journal. I use a Lemome one and it's great! The only reason why I didn't get an A & O was because it was more expensive. The A & O is better, though.
love the barn door idea for the to todos and notes (now I don't have to cram this into my weekly spread) and the flip out page... genius. Thanks Ann Le!
For the DIY pocket I'd have the opening facing the spine inside the book so if your bits and pieces fall out they won't fall from the book. 😊 Otherwise I love these hacks!
This video is stunning, slays me! Thanks. I don't know how to use black notes. Painted error with black pen. Wow! The extra label made of half sheet of paper! Another amazing trick! My Brazilian Bujo will be cool. Thank you so much, Ann Le.
I'm really bad at wasting a sheet of paper over a few scratch outs so the "barn door" idea is pretty neat. Definitely going to use that in my 2018 journal.
1. ENVELOPE SLOT - cut the edges glue it, decorate done. Or stick an envelope on the page 2. WASHI TAPE AS MARKERS 3. CUT OUT MARKS on few pages as one section 4. Use the elastic band as pen holder 5. Color Index - on a separate paper or on page 2 of your journal 6. Tie a ribbon on a paper clip and use as bookmark 7. Stick extra post its on any random page 8. Cut away parts of pages you dont like to make a 'barn door' 9. Glue extra pages on pages (pics etc) 10. Somethinh about flipping out an index page 11. Blot out errors using markers and write over with gel pens
I found this to be a very helpful video which is useful with the "journal" method Ryder Carroll outlines in his book, rather than a bunch of layouts that have nothing to do with his method. I will definitely use some of your indexing ideas.
Wow, this is great! I feel like there are many hack videos out there that tend to repeat a lot of the same suggestions, but this one had some new things I hadn't seen before. Thanks for the helpful tips!!
The pen holder one is so simple but it blew my mind haha I have a ton of journals with the elastic straps and I never thought of doing that! Loved this video!!
Came across ur video quite randomly. Thanks to UA-cam for suggesting me actually. Trust me all ur ideas are just fantastic and soo easy to do... they r v inspiring and motivating for a person like me who wishes to start Journaling and use a planner in 2021.. Once Again thank u so much God bless
Today i wanted to start my first bullet journal and searched for some ideas here on UA-cam. So now i've found your video and it's helping me so much! Thank you for the inspriration, the DIYs and the tricks! :) Ly, Lily
Thanks for this video! Im one to buy the complete necessary supplies to start something, like bullet journaling, but struggle to know where to start. This was really helpful!
Thanks for the video! It’s awesome that you also use Dior ribbons for making bookmarks in the journals!! I just glue the tip of the ribbon to the back cover of my journal and use it as a normal journal bookmark.
My favorite thing to do is have a "self indulgence" page. I write down one simple thing (that I regard to as a simple luxury) for each day of the month. I write them on separate bits of paper and draw one from an envelope or pocket every day. It's small, inexpensive things like, paint your nails, buy some chocolate, find a new series to watch, have a cup of tea, etc. They're things that I love that are not a part of my normal routine. I also always make one that's super indulgent like a shopping spree. It's a little reminder to be mindful, and appreciate the little things.
The journal with the best paper are called Dingbats. Lovely thick paper in the usual, lines, dots etc. pocket in the back, and pen holder tab. Some have numbered pages with index - lots to choose from. My favourite now
I'm very new to bullet journal actually I'm more of a bujo/happy Planner... but OMG your video is soooooo AMAZING!!! Thank you for sharing these ideas! Can't wait to try some of them! 👌
1) Envelope slot 0:57
2) Washing Tape 1:49
3) Cut out marks 2:46
4) Pen holder 3:27
5) Colour index 3:39
6) Page mark 4:31
7) Post-it holder 5:10
8) Barn door 5:29
9) Page coverup 6:06
10) Flip notes 6:42
11) Black label 7:10
🖤
thank you!!
tysmmmmm ilyyyy
I love you, thank you so much
Thank you so much
I love you hahaha
ProTip for #1 - Have the opening of your pocket toward the spine, not the open edge of the journal. That way if stuff shifts around loosely, it will still be secure in your journal and won't be at risk for falling out.
I just glue an envelope into the end of the jounal...
Helenosa yesssss or if you already have a pocket glue it on to it for extra space!
Furthermore, think about W joints instead of plain V ones. As W ones will allow you to store stencils, stamps, stickers comfortably.
YES! That is a really good tip
That's not even a decent tip. Those are already in the books. Wtf.
I recommend using double sided tape instead of any glue. It works wonders and applies like how you apply a dry whiteout!
I recommend using a glue stick instead of wet glue.
Marisol Phan even better use a glue tape roller. They add a ver thin layer of glue line and doesnt smel or stick to stuff you dont want it to.
Rubber cement
Emily Simpson rubber cement is more heavy duty and is more for cardboard and thick paper. It ruins thin pages.
Kinda the same
.. small tabs of 2-sided tape at the corners
I love the envelope slot! For me though, I'd put the opening of the slot towards the inside of the notebook just to make sure nothing falls out. I'm definitely gonna try this out!
That flip out page cheat sheet is genius
Have a "why I'm starting the journal" page to look back on when you lose motivation
Yes i was like: omg this is such a Smart idea!
@@JessicaChris1612 this is a nice idea! I guess it's a good reminder, and inspirational.
Yes. I went to comment this exact thing and saw it was a top comment.
I love this idea too. Off the top of my head I can't really think of what I would put on that page... anyone want to share things they've put there?
I like the flipped page, adding the envelope and a picture page to your journal/planner.
I barely keep a journal but this is so inspiring. Working on mine feels like such a time consuming activity
Thanks Maggi ❤️ So happy you found it inspiring!
Ugh same! I suck at keeping a journal cause it’s so time consuming but I’m gonna attempt again this year 🤞🏽
Nicole Smith more so a planner! I would love to have the time or energy to draw and put stickers and note sticky thingys on it... lol 😓
Plus I usually forget about it after about a week. 🤷🏻♀️ lol I guess some people are just better at it.
Just have a simple bullet journal (the basic one). That's what I do because I don't have the time or energy to have a "pretty" one.
Oooh they're all are great! I've never thought of creating a bookmark out of paper clips and ribbbons so Imma try that!
I'm so happy you enjoyed that one!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Can't help but picture my cats yanking out all my bookmarks lol; but I'm going to try it anyway! 😼
I love the idea of a barn door or dutch door style journal but it would kill me to cut out paper from my journal.
Agreed
Maybe just glue a cut page in? I could also never cut the pages >.
Take another notebook with similar pages and cut pages from it.
You can fold the page backwards so it’s like it’s still there?
Yeah i deff agree
6:45 never thought of it that way! This ideas is 🔥
As a current graphic design college student and an avid journal-writer, these hacks are gonna be so helpful for my everyday busy life. Not to mention catering to my aesthetic needs lol. Thank you Ann!! And can't wait for your journal prototype video!! 💕💕
I love the idea of washi tape page markers. I will definitely be using that!
I love everything, my fav was the pull-out page. What I discovered was drawing a flower near the cover page of my journal and every time before I journal I will add to the same flower drawing. It looks like a super cool flower now.
I have one of those "vintage" label makers. They still make them!
JJ Scott I do too. Love 'em and have them!
Love it! Especially the last tip about covering up a mistake and re-writing over with white! Brilliant!
Amazing! I have been using various time management tools for over 20 years and am now getting excited by bullet journals! I love your DIY ideas! Thanks for sharing...
Can you make a video on how to stay on track with writing in a journal because I like making them but never finish writing in them
Same here
Make a tracker for it and do a check mark for each day you write in your journal.
Daily alarm reminder on your phone
Custom it so you only need to do what you want to. You can make it as minimalistic or inconsistent as you want. Not keeping up with it is a sign that u are not using the perfect things for u. Change up some spreads or try new ones. Sometimes even changing the layout is enough

I love your ideas and I'll try em soon...
First time I watched Ann's video on journaling tips and was very inspired by the ideas shown. I just retired and am already so busy with a new life, I need a bit of organization to keep things from falling off my radar.
The last tip is like reverse white-out. Thanks for the tips! I'm new to all this and will be using quite a few!
Love the flip out page idea for your key!!
Ink bleeding through the pages also drives me crazy!! >.
the _flip out * hack just changed my life! I' am excited. Thanks.*_

Loved the one with little ribbon bows...super girlie
They're all great, but I love the very last one about covering mistakes with a black box. Love your channel!

The bullet journal brand that I use is archer and olive and their pages are very high quality and it helps tremendously with ink bleed throughs.
I know I'm late, but this is subtle, creative and practical.
I need black post it's in my life
We all do xD
Thank you, these were eye opening hacks for me. I'm going to try the flip out page and cut out markers
