Modern Switching Defence was Made to stop dominant Shooters in the opposition so that best defender could guard the best 3pt shooter.
Europe saw Steph and all 5 guys started shooting 3s and playing zone. You simply couldn't track Curry across court cus he'd run you into so many screens so you HAD to switch when he was off ball.

Curry has multiple clips of him being double/triple teamed. If he’s not double teamed, he’s being focused by the team’s most competent defender to try to reduce how much he can do even at the cost of other players besides him getting better looks. Curry’s damn near infinite scoring potential from 3 has changed how agressive defense is played against 3pt oriented teams

VS the Pelicans in 2015 after Steph made that shot, to push the game into overtime. One ref even came out and said that they did not call the foul for Steph because he still made the shot! Y’all niggaz really just be talking like Steph gets these soft fouls that freethrow merchants Embiid, Giannis, SGA, Trae Young, and a prime Harden use to get? He doesn’t. He and Kyrie are the only 2 players to average 25+ with less 4 FT attempts per game in multiple seasons. Steph handles physicality just fine. You wouldn’t want your best defensive option to get fouled out when you’re trying to halt someone like Curry. • @savonsanders8684
      @savonsanders8684 22 дні тому +3

The rule change doesn’t help Steph. Teams are always allowed to be more physical with Steph!! Steph and Kyrie have multiple seasons averaging 25+ PPG on just 4 FT or less!! Steph gets held, he gets grabbed on, and fouled in front of these refs, but still gets no calls because he’s expected to make those shots foul or not. The GS vs LA series in 2023 was a prime example. DLo and Reeves both were flopping and went to the line more than Steph did, and when you’re watching Steph run across the court you could see them fouling the crap out of him, and no whistle was blown at all! But when GS barely touched Bron or AD down the stretch or when DLo and Reeves would throw their heads back, it was an automatic whistle which explained the free throw disparity. That series LA shot twice as many FTs as GS.
GS in every 3rd and 4th QT was in the penalty or bonus so GS was facing the refs that series as well.

When in Steph Currys career could a team afford to double him? Curry benefited from having spacing and multiple HOFers

@@LilBoSkeetE85it’s because of the rule changes to defense and freedom of movement that curry is as great as he is imo. If you could really bump curry on screens and impeded his movement when cutting and w wear him down with defense . His 3 point shooting is def taking a hit. One thing people can’t deny is that ai played in a way more defensive era that curry

@t-god2439 I'm convinced most of you don't watch Steph. They grab and bump him off ball every game. Teams have separate rules when guarding Steph

@@split_head_776Yes they do. Steph haters don’t watch the games. Steph gets held and grabbed in front of the refs all the time. He doesn’t get them superstar calls. Him and Kyrie have the most seasons averaging 25+ ppg on less than 4 F mT attempts.

It's not most of the bigs couldn't switch but MORE it was frowned upon defence as well as shifting to allow it to be more acceptable to switch

Nah I'm absolutely sure that most of these older players stop watching the NBA as soon as they retire which makes them genuinely believe that basketball peaked in their era and that there's no player today that can compare with what they did back in the day

Iverson is the most over hyped elite player of all time because of his culture significance and being street, real. Straight up on the court the guy was a 6"0 175 pound elite slasher with a below average 3, average middy, average defense and average to below average passing ability. He was in the weaker conference and made it to the finals 1 time and got dogged most years bounced round 1-2 and they talking about him not having teams, he played with a prime iggy who was a monster, All star and Shooters and defenders all around him including one of the best 3 pt shooters of all time Kyle Korver. If he was demanding that much attention slashing maybe hit him or one of the other many shooters left open?
I grew up in the AI era and he was a extremley good undersized slasher that was relentless but that's it. Didn't have the shot, passing or vision to be in the same realm as a Curry. Comparing Iverson to a 6"4 215 pound 4x ring uni mvp with the 3 point record, great handles, great vision, passing and good slashing is absurd.
Again i like iverson better find him more entertaining and grew up in his era and Curry dog walks iverson. If they giving iverson this much credit for one finais sppearsnce wirh his (not near as bad as they make it out to be team.) Then they might as well no contest Lebron over their boy Jordan with what he did his first run in Cleveland. They pick and choose when things matter to fit their narrative.

Most players in the previous era did not get switched because in that error, nobody ever switched. In that error, you had to fight over screens. That’s just how we played. Even with Michael Jordan, or Penny, Hardaway, or Allen Iverson, or Tracy McGrady, or Vince Carter, or Grant Hill, or anybody else, nobody ever switched. In that error, we had to fight over the screens. Had nothing to do with a big not being able to guard a perimeter player. Because many of them could.

Are they forgetting thar Steph had his best scoring season without all the bells and whistles ?

  • @anthonysykes1749

Gil need to rewatch the 2020-2021 season. It was Steph and Draymond vs the world. Steph had one of his best shooting seasons of his career, finished 2nd and mvp voting, and did it before Poole party was a thing and while Klay was out. Steph was the focal point of that offense, even at times seeing double and even triple teams. And the reason is because during his season where he was injured, he took time to rest, as well as add muscle to absorb contact better while handling the ball. Players were used to being able to play physical with Steph and frustrate him on ball. That’s why 2016 Cleveland switched on all screens on Steph. 2021 Steph, they couldn’t do that anymore because he was able to play a bit more physical on the perimeter.

I was huge fan of Iverson he was great but he was not treat like Curry Curry was first player who was come on half to block him bcs he was shoot constantly from almost half court and hit like Luka now but Luka don't have that hand like Curry have at his peak! Why always from Gil hear stupid things?
