Both you and green keep mixing and matching players from different years. Bogut wasn’t on the 2017 warriors.
Here’s how the 17 gsw vs 01 lakers would really go down.
Curry, thompson, Durant would all be shooting about 42+% from 3 because they’ll eat on DHO’s, p&r’s, and pin downs because shaq could not and would not ever leave the basket defensively. That’s wide open 3’s all game for 3 of the 15 best shooters ever all in their peaks. They’d also be eating in transition offensively with curry and thompson spreading the lakers to the 3 point line with Durant, igoudala or Livingston handling and getting clear paths to the basket. They’ll always have the advantage because shaq was so lazy and slow to get back. If the lakers decided to switch instead of giving up open shots all game, Durant would just cook smaller guys like fisher in the mid range all game, and curry would cook bigger slower guys like grant and fox on the perimeter.
Defensively, GS will just double shaq with ZAZA on him and KD, green or igoudala doubling down. That’s a big body and then another wing with extremely long arms. Other 3 GSW defenders zone up on the lakers shooters and can recover easily when shaq passes out. They’ll also have pachulia, McGee and west use up all 15 of their available fouls through out the game by hacking shaq where he’ll then shoot about 48% from the line.
They’ll also have Durant, thompson and igoudala taking turns on Bryant. Kerr will instruct them all to say certain things to feed into his ego and have him ruin the lakers offense by forcing up BS shots and go into iso/1 on 1 shot jacking mode. Those 3 guys will stay fresh by taking turns on him and Bryant will shoot about 40% from the field, take a bunch of heavily contested long 2’s, and ruin LA’s chances by trying to play hero ball instead of getting the ball to shaq on the block.
Lakers probably get 2 games. Warriors in 6.

    • @Jonathan-A.C.
      @Jonathan-A.C. 3 місяці тому +1

That is a pretty biased assessment.
I think a lot is sensible about how the Warriors play, but let’s not pretend anybody is guarding Shaq. And even if they are doubling and forcing a pass out, he’s a good passer. His team largely is not as universally skilled/talented as the Warriors, but this have guys who hit their shots.
I think it’s fair to say that the Warriors have the advantage based on better offense

    • @tonj02
      @tonj02 3 місяці тому +20

@@Jonathan-A.C. what did I say that was biased?
I ever said anybody on their team could guard shaq. I said they’d use their 3 big bodies and 3 long wings to double him every time so that he’d have to pass out. If he didn’t pass out then he’d likely have to commit an offensive foul. I also said they’d have their guys use 15+ fouls in order to send shaq to the line rather than having him play 1 on 1, and shaq was obviously a terrible FT shooter. I never said he wasn’t a good passer, but the warriors other 3 defenders would easily zone up on the lakers 4 other players, especially with a non 3pt shooter like grant or guys who shot 32% and 31% from 3 in the playoffs like Bryant and fox. Once O’Neal passes out to the perimeter, golden state would easily rotate back and recover to stop a potential drive, or force fox or Bryant into a heavily contested 3. It would be different if fox and Bryant were 38% 3pt shooters and GS couldn’t afford to leave them open, or if GS didn’t have the defensive personnel to recover after a double team, but they did. I still think the lakers would get a game or 2, so I’m not disrespecting them.

      @@tonj02
Well I think even then, it’s underrated Shaq’s pure physical dominance, although that’s not to say he didn’t throw the elbows pretty often. I also think it’s underrating his passing ability, because at good passer will have a solid chance to reach other teammates if they themselves. And even if it’s gonna be pressure on the perimeter, I’m sure they’d sub in the Lakers who can shoot better (which I still think would result in better Warriors offense, but it’s not from them being directly countered).

I honestly think the Warriors should do what teams back then did with Shaq. You throw your biggest guy at him and slow his walk into the restricted area. You could also double on the catch and try to force Shaq to pass. While yes, they had quality shooters, the Warriors are living with Robert Horry and Rick Fox taking 10 3pt shots per game. Kobe will likely get his 25 to 30 also. On the other end, I worry about the Lakers' inability to switch on offball screens. Even modern teams with faster, longer defenders struggle with switching against the prime Warriors. Durant's production will likely match Kobe's and Curry will be taking wide open 3pt shots on the drop coverage, not mid range, because they can always set the screen higher. Shaq is gonna get exposed just like Rudy if they start forcing switches when Fisher can't get around the screens fast enough. The Warriors will win the series because the Lakers are the ideal of a dated strategy that has clear flaws relative to modern strategies. The talent of Kobe and Shaq will have to carry them, and I don't know if that's reliable given the trouble they will have defensively.

The warriors if we're being honest would probably be the best defense they've faced when you consider how good the warriors defense is with how difficult it is to guard offenses today because of the spacing and talent level.
Iggy would be at the top of best defender guarding kobe, and dray would be near the top of best help defender, and he also has switch ability.
And that's their defense. Steph shoots comfortably from 40 and Durant and klay from 30. That is so gross

Draymond literally said he couldn’t stop Shaq. His point was about disruption and giving a different set of issues and challenges. Se have to go for what we know. Now as for rules we can do a hybrid model of the rules, but the teams essentially use their normal rotations and modifications to gameplan. This is not rocket science and it’s not all about analytics. Them Lakers would get Killed! They literally don’t stop moving. Then they got a scoring machine in KD who has never been seen before. And we’re forgetting about Demarcus Cousins being on their team at one point, along with Draymond. Honestly the team is just to good. Then we’re forgetting the crowd factor of the playoff atmosphere. The warriors go on incredible runs and make shots that just rip your heart out. Good defense and all and he still makes it. That’s just hard to play against haven’t even went over bench players either.. It’ll be a tough series but I’m thinking 6 games at best out of respect for Kobe and Shaq.

Acting like Javalenane Bogut aren’t genuine 7 foot bigs that are certainly on the level of most bigs of that era is crazy. Shaq isn’t an auto-win button, we saw Shaq almost get swept by a Jazz team that started Gregg Ostertag in 1997. We saw them actually sweep them in 1998 where Van Exel and Eddie Jones were Allstars and Horry was already on the team, already Big shot Bob with Finals experience next to Hakeem in Houston. Yes they got significantly better-but you’re not stopping the Warriors. The only team that even had a remote shot in their run did it by hitting 1000 threes.

Exactly my point. People are nostalgic and don't realize Shaq built his own mythology by being the most present in the media. Orlando's Shaq didn't magically became dominant Lakers Shaq: he was powerful but slower, he just had better back-up, and how many teams knew how to keep Shaq in line? Half of them, and I'm not speaking of hack a shaq. Better centers, good PFs could. And for teams who couldn't, many could stop the pass before Shaq got the ball. This whole debate is moot because of two points:
1- former player NBA analysts built a narrative around their playing importance
2- you can't do like coaching wouldn't count and make a 1 on 1 list.

I think you put kd in front of shaq and bogut behind. You're not going to stop him, to just need to make the entry as difficult as possible. Try to encourage kobe to shoot 3s, otherwise he cooking klay too. Defensively is where you get the Lakers in trouble. Draymond runs the offense from the top, and make bogut set screens. This brings shaq up, or he's on KD getting cooked. Keep running them too, because when shaq goes out, the Lakers are vulnerable. Kobe can't guard them all.

  • @orcamaster985
    @orcamaster985 3 місяці тому

40% from 3 is 60% from 2s. Even if Kobe and shaq go insane and go above and beyond what they normally do curry (who played against teams that prepared and built to contend with the warriors perimeter threats) shot 42% from 3, Kevin Durant shot 44%, and Klay 39% from 3. Since you pointed out how shaq would do better against a team who didn’t have personnel to guard shaq, I think it is fair to say that the warriors would have a considerable and larger increase in their production compared to the lakers production. 44% from 3 is equivalent to 66% from the field which is considerably less sustainable. Also saying Robert Horry shot 36.2% from 3 in 2001 which is basically below average to today’s game. Basically warriors would not be able to stop shaq and Kobe, they would definitely get their buckets, but the warriors are just offensively better than them. If Shaq and Kobe do not produce 66% fg% every single game, warriors will simply outpace them.

Grant was money from the mid range. Them dudes weren’t missing and they ran through quality competition in 01 in route to the finals and it was just flat out crazy.

Did Shaq just suggest playing a drop against the greatest shooter ever? Even if it’s not 3s Steph curry might be able to keep up with Shaq layups efficiency off of straight free throw line jumpers. Once the lakers realize that and send help that’s when you get people like klay and kd involved and they start making threes. Also I don’t think people understand that Shaq can’t play the whole game especially with the amount he would have to move to guard the warriors motion offense. And if he does play the whole game then by game 3 max he’s completely tired and now Kobe is spending time on the floor by himself and Kobe isn’t anywhere near enough to compete with that warriors team. Also I didn’t even mention the fact that the lakers don’t have enough great perimeter defenders to have a great defender on BOTH klay and kd. Klay didn’t have to show it, but klay is a legitimate scoring option that can go for 30 any given night when you put a weak defender on him. With all due respect I think that the lakers pull the first two, but from there the warriors sweep. Overall warriors in 6

You said objectively this and that, but my friend imo… 2001 v. 2017
    Let’s break it down.
GS Starters: Steph, Klay, KD, Dray, Zaza
Bench: Iggy, Ian Clark, Javale McGee, Shaun Livingston, David West
LAL Starters: Derek, Kobe, Fox, Horace, Shaq
Bench: Horry, Shaw, Lue, Harper(Hurt), Deveon George
    Steph v. Fisher is = Zaza v. Shaq(to a degree 😂)
KD v. Fox, Horry is ≠ Kobe v. Klay(all-league perimeter defender at this time).
GS bench were 5 rotation players v. LA bench was rotating 2 maybe 3 on a good night. Give the nod to GS bench overall just better players.
    GS points to victory:
    1. Put Shaq in nearly every P&R action. Pulling Shaq from the paint, tiring him out = layups from back screens, down screens, brush screens etc.
    2. Shadow Kobe, try and force Kobe to go 1v1 more and lead into trap zones. Allowing late shot clock heaves.
    3. Xfactor is once the Death line up is in game, Shaq must be manipulated in every action forcing him to come up in P&R once again, in a more run and gun playstyle. Potential blowout.
    LAL points to victory:
    1. Shaq must involve his team early, being aggressive early could potentially hurt the TEAM. DFish, Kobe, Fox must knockdown 3pointers at a good clip to open the flood gates.
    2. Kobe must be ultra aggressive at the rim, not settling for jumpers often. By making GS commit, Kobe then could kick to the shooters or even lobs to Shaq behind defense.
    3. Shooters have to shoot more and off the bench. Horry, BShaw, Isaiah Rider must be productive in order for LAL to win comfortably.

That team could never handle Durant, Curry, and Klay. This idea that they would try to stop Shaq is silly. Let him eat and force Kobe to take difficult shots. There is no one on those teams that can slow down Curry or Durant. And Klay would play great defense on Kobe. Basketball evolves and with the Lakers running the triangle, their offense is built around creating in the midrange and post. I have no doubt the Lakers could take a game or even two through Shaq bullying the Warriors and Kobe getting hot. But when you have Durant, Klay, and Curry pulling guys out to 27 feet, the Lakers would inevitably fall apart, lose in the fast break, and they wouldn't score enough.

this shit is absurd. i don't even know how people entertain this. modern teams play the game so much better than those early 2000s teams. this isn't a pageant where we are glazing over the bodies and physicality of men. it's a contest of which team scores more. the 2001 lakers had no switchability because the league had never seen an offense that was active enough to require switching to keep up with. the laker's bigs only every knew drop coverage. shaq could average 40 but he'd give it right back trying to defend in drop coverage and the funny thing is it would actually be draymond murdering him with DHOs to steph, klay and kd. shaq would have absolute zero impact on defensive fast breaks when he's running behind all 9 players. i'm pretty sure even the 2018 rockets or even a team like the 2023 kings would fucking sweep the 2001 lakers. the warriors played at a pace 8.5 possessions per game and shot a true shooting 5% higher than the lakers. you guys think andrew bogut(who wasn't even on the 2017 team) fouling out is a death knell for the warriors? maybe everyone either forgot or was completely unaware that the warriors needed to bench him against the cavs in 2015 and then iguodala was given all the credit for draymond sliding to center, changing the series and winning 3 straight to finish the cavs. just as zaza or bogut or whoever could foul out, so could kobe by trying to aggressively defend deep 3s and splits actions. the lakers would be run through more screens, defend more fast breaks and fast break 3's, and defend more deep and off-the dribble 3's and DHOs than they'd ever thought imaginable. this would be a slaughter. you'd have to be a pure ball watcher or someone with agenda not to see or admit it.
i forgot to mention that all of kobe and the laker's inefficient shots mean EVEN MORE fast break opportunities for the warriors that the lakers and their oversized bigs wouldn't be able to defend. this is why even a team like the 2023 kings would destroy them. this "debate" is laughable.

Bruh, the 02 nets are nowhere near the freaking 2017 warriors. Not even close. Cannot compare. If anything, you need to compare to the Sacramento kings, who ran a higher paced offense and used frontcourt playmaking from players like Chris Webber and Vlade Divac, as well as high end stretch forwards like Peja and Hedo. In that scenario, shaq only shot 53% from the field, and if it weren't for the refs literally cheating, the kings win the series in 6.

2017 Wariors were a team with all players in there prime steph and kd were already mvps ccouple years before. Klay was prime klay and draymond was prime draymond. Kobe was about to enter his prime shaq was in his prime. wariors would destroy them: lebj and kyrie had no chance against this juggernaut of a team

Offensively that lakers team only had Shaq and Kobe, even if the both dropped 40 that’s not enough offense to keep up with Steph Klay and KD. And shaq was a great paint defender but would be useless out in the pnr.

  • @tteenEx

But if shaq said he would beat Denver or jokic low would make a 6 hour video on why shaq couldn't guard jokic nd why that system is a too advance offense for shaq

We all know Shaq gone average 50. Problem is most of the games will be over by the 3rd quarter when GS goes on their signature avalanche. Just not enough fire power but trust they will happily live with Shaq getting layups every possession. And the lakers got some shooters but you’d need all of them to be able to take an make a bunch of 3s to keep up with GS.

I hear everybody saying but there's curry and Katie that's all y'all are talking about Jeff getting Klay Thompson was nice not only that who is a very big third option because if Shinobi gonna get theirs who's the third guy is going to follow up and get theirs to offset Klay Thompson Lakers don't have anyonethen we're talking about rest gonna be a point where maybe shack and Colby's not on the floor together and who's gonna be the guy that's gonna be able to compete with the Warriors bench by the best bench that we've ever seen from 2015 to 2019 or 18

2001 Lakers I think would win more often than not for a few reasons. Either team could win.
My thought process being them winning is this:
    1. I think they would have an easier time making the warriors play at their pace because they have Shaq on the floor and the game has to slow down when he’s out there given the attention he requires.
    2. The lakers have enough perimeter defenders to go around that would make it tuff at times for Steph KD and Klay between Kobe Fisher Fox Horry Harper and Lue In this situation I think Phil would more than likely go with a smaller line up at times running Grant at the back up 5 and starting Rob at the 4.
3.Given this Kobe in the early part of his defensive Peak when he was more energetic I’d probably have him check Steph in the most critical moments and Fish on Klay. Honestly either way I don’t think it necessarily matters but I like Kobe against quicker guards over Fish but like I said they’ll guard both. Living KD getting his over Fox Horry Harper(he could guard 1-3 even at his older age I’d probably have him help on KD and let Lue help Fish and Kobe) or whoever is guarding him. My primary focus is to try to neutralize the splash brothers as much as possible.
    4. Kobe and Shaq 2 man game with both of them being 2 of best play makers in the league at creating for themselves, each other and open shots for everybody else is something I think that is a lot more difficult to deal with given the Warriors personnel. They are elite at the right spots on offense to exploit the warriors defense and that’s at getting easy points in the paint while being able to knock down open shots. I think the warriors have less answers and bodies to throw at Shaq and Kobe than the other way around . They could exploit the disadvantage of whoever is guarding Shaq and let him pick apart the defense from the block or Use Kobe on the perimeter create and breakdown the defense. I watched Klay guard 34 year old Kobe in his defensive peak and it wasn’t pretty. He’s not doing any better vs 22 year old Kobe. In the event that Steph gets switched onto him I don’t need to say much about that.
    5. I do think KD will have a lot of success given that I think the focus would be to stop Steph and Klay living with what KD gives you. We’ve seen much worse teams go 7 games with this warriors team. I think that lakers team would adjust really well to this era.

In my opinion sure, Lakers are going to slow down their game just like teams did against GS. But the Lakers cannot slow down the Warriors.
The Lakers have good defenders for an era that was "just stare at the ball and just play defense if your man gets the ball in ISO". Against GS they have to play every possesion continusly running around screens and deciding if they have to switch, double, hedge, run over or under the screen.
Playing defense in 04 is not the same as playing defense in 2017.
Sure Kobe can guard Steph in a 1v1, good luck running around screens all day and still be expected to score 30 and do it shooting over 44% from the field like he used to.
Kobe can create for himself, you cant lock him down. But is very easy to make him take tough shots that is going to make him very inneficient compared to Curry, KD, Klay, Iggy and Draymond.
The Warriors dont need to stop neither Kobe nor Shaq, even if they have great games GS is going to outscore them.
Those teams that were 7 games, that you think are worse teams than the Lakers are probably giving the Lakers a lot of problems.
Teams get better each era, they learn and become more efficient.

@@Woozie894Kobe didn't push off, I've never seen him do that. An Shaq did get get called for offensive fouls when he would elbow the defender when turning but he didn't do that often. The Warriors only chance is to hack a Shaq and hope he misses all his free throws tbh

Listen man, come on. No true competitor is gonna say "oh yeah, your team is beating my team"
No one is gonna say that.
    Especially if they are champions?
    Come on.
So I can't hate Draymond for saying that and having that stance, but.
I'm never gonna go against Kobe and Shaq threepeat team.

  • @TheAisenz0rz

You also have to account for how Shaq forces other teams to play at his pace. You simply can’t get out in transition when the lakers never give up long rebounds. Every shot shaq throws up usually goes in and if it doesn’t it’s missed close to the basket negates transition 3’s and allows the lakers get back defensively.
Also Rick fox, fisher, and horry during that time were lock down 3 and D players that shot the 3 at a very good clip as well.

I’m taking the scoring versatility of the Warriors over Kobe and Shaq. Also Lakers let AI drops 48 on their head, what makes you think they’re gonna slow down prime KD, KLAY, and Curry who all can drop 40+ any given night.

The warriors whould win tho. The lakers got two players who can score 30 the warriors three. Prime KD and Steph are better than young Kobe. Shaq will dominate but so would Steph klay and KD no way there guarding all three. It’s simuler to the nuggets timberwolves series this year. One team has the best player the other team is way deeper
