    WOW, I have been sewing for 50 years, and have done many bias bindings. This was the MOST helpful information I have ever seen. Most of this I have already done, but I always have to stop and think, and feel like I am "reinventing the wheel" every time. I'm going to bookmark this as a quick reference. Your videos are so very clear and easy to see what you are doing! Thank YOU!

    Oh THANK YOU !!! I’m a beginner, stuck on a “Beginner Pattern” for months until I found this video. Your mini-facing technique explains it all, and I especially appreciate how you used contrasting fabric and thread colors for the visuals. Relief!

    Your method for joining the ends is the best I've seen! I'm making a poncho out of a vintage viyella wool liberty print, so I have to cut a hole in the center for the head and wanted to bias-bind that edge. Now I'm not so afraid of it, thanks.

    Thanks so much for this, really clear explanations. I have a question - is there a reason why the bias binding can't be attached at the same time as sewing the seam? And for binding a seam with exposed edges, does it matter if you start by attaching the bias binding to the inside then fold to the outside and do the topstitching from the outside? Thankyou!

      Thanks Ann. I have hand stitched binding only a few times I think and its usually been on fabric that is either double gauze or a little thicker as I find with something like a cotton lawn for example, I'd rather just see the stitching :)

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  3 роки тому

      Hello, yes for stretch fabric you don't cut on the bias like you do with woven fabrics :)

    Hi I am new to sewing crazy starting at 69 haha if put poly-cotton bias on the bottom of a t shirt and it's puckered all the way round why has that happened ?? And you explain everything so even I understand it all thank you so much yours Konrad

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  2 роки тому

      Hello, it depends on what fabric the t-shirt is made from really. If it is stretchy fabric then I would not recommend putting a woven bias binding on that as the fabrics have very different properties and are not really compatible in that context. Without pictures or further details it is hard to diagnose the problem specifically :)

    What do you do if you are using a fabric that you cannot iron?

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  3 роки тому

      It can be tricky in that instance so it's best to use a ready made binding that co-ordinates with your fabric to get the best finish :)

    Hello! I just saw this video and your other video on form tape interfacing. Is that something that I would use together with the bias binding? Do I first iron on the form tape interfacing and then sew on the bias binding?

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  3 роки тому

      Hello, yes thats right, on fine fabrics where often pattern instructions suggest you stay stitch neckline to stabilise them, you can replace that step by using form tape interfacing and then applying the bias binding afterwards :)

    • @dale3404

    Can you use double folded bias tape for curved edges? I accidentally made a double folded bias. I can't figure out if I can use it for curved edges or if its best to use single fold bias tape.

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  6 років тому

      Hello, yes you can use it for curved edges as its the bias that gives the stretch, no the number of folds. If you made double fold you can always just flatten out the centre fold and then you will have single fold. Hope that helps :)

  • @kelilara

    Hi I'm a brand new sewer. Do you put your bias bindings on the individual front and back pattern of your shirt first then sew them together?

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  6 років тому

      Hi Keli, if you were doing a neckline for example you would sew both shoulder seams first so the the neckline was like a loop and then put the binding on. Similarly for an arm hole, you would sew should seam and side seam so the arm hole is like a loop to and then put the binding on. Hope that helps :)
