  • Atari's classic Mortal Dinosaur Kombat game from 1994 has some strangeness going on, especially when playing at home using a Supergun. It uses the JAMMA standard, but also doesn't? Let's go over the additional cables and adapters you may need to get sound, music, and all four buttons for full fighting controls.

      Nah, it sucks. Sorry, Clint but this could have easily been on the normal channel. You also did shorter sometimes 4-5 minute videos back then, like Quickies and stuff so why a second channel?
      You're just adding another layer of UA-cam up-fuckery with the notifications and all.
      I just don't think it was a wise decision.

    Very cool. I never thought I would see an LGR video of you talking about Primal Rage ever. On MAME yeah, the game has unemulated protection, according to MAMEs source code it has what is known as Atari XGA protection, this protection was also used in other Atari Games arcade games such as Space Lords (Which had it's Atari XGA protection broken making it work properly in MAME now), for Primal Rage according to the MAME source code in atarixga.cpp Primal Rage's part number (Likely the chip on the board) has been identified (It says its part number 136094-0004A), all we need to know is when the key is dumped and used to make the game work 100% on MAME (hopefully). The opponent will also never perform a finisher since the game is programmed to never let the AI enter the finisher part of the round, through hacking it is possible to trick the game since it only uses bit 01 for the AI player flag to have an AI opponent and anything higher will cause the AI to play and be able to go into this finisher part of the round. However since it was never programmed for the opponent to actually finish an opponent they will just jump around and attack, sometimes attacking the air, before the timer just goes over or they hit the opponent to end the finisher part of the match and win. Also all of the versions on home consoles and the PC DOS version all have issues compared to the arcade original, such as bugs, odd knock back (like in the Sega Saturn version), bad collisions (like in the PC DOS version, just try to play that version and do Vertigo's sweep on the opponent which is buttons 3+4 while crouching, it will never connect), and other issues that I am not mentioning since there are a lot I know of and I don't want to make this comment any longer. The Genesis version is also based on an old version (Version 1.7 more so then 2.3) so pretty much anything that isn't special moves is kind of useless since the hop jump was multiplayer exclusive in 1.7 and the high jump was a charge down then hit up rather then hit down and up very quickly. The sound also had a sub woofer in the cabinet which is probably what the audio board is normally set up to (I saw it on the bottom near the coin door when I played the cabinet that is at the Galloping Ghost Arcade).
    I also would like to ask, how hard is it to play with all the buttons in a row like on the Neo Geo stick? I play on the Genesis version on a three button controller and its pretty difficult since everything is in a row but when the buttons are in a square, like the PS4 face buttons when I play the game on MAME it is perfect and I can play the game like normal. Just wondering, anyways sorry for the long block of text I just felt a little justified to write a lot of information on something I do know a lot about and just sharing some knowledge, good luck with finding or building a cabinet for this game. (PS: I do recommend looking up a moves list like you said in the video, it will make the game so much more fun trust me on that)

      My favorite version is actually the port on original Xbox. Even though emulation issues exist, it has the Japanese arcade version's controls. So you can do the specials either street fighter style or go with the original negative edge style. The Japanese arcade version as far as I know is only available at galloping ghost.
      @Gruntzilla94
      Did you ever get around to updating mame4rage2 on newer versions of mame to possibly make it work through retroarch?

    • @Gruntzilla94
      @Gruntzilla94 4 роки тому +1

      @@Hated19134 I have heard that MAT2 uses Japanese Primal Rage moves but since I never played the Japanese version I can't confirm but it is interesting since the consoles (Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube) had the simplified moves for Primal Rage but the PC version of MAT2 (found in Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe) goes back to the normal Version 2.3 moves instead but still has all of the other MAT2 changes just reverted the special moves. Also the issues in that version the worst ones are the inability to eat the worshipers in the eat mini game and Sauron moving at more then double his normal speed.
      On MAME4Rage2 I haven't done anything to port it to libretro/Retroarch yet.

      Oh Look up Superguns, its how people run arcade boards without an Arcade cabinet. Some arcade games never had a dedicated cab, the board was sold with a conversion kit to modify an existing Cabinet to become a completely different game. Whats really wild is some people will take like Capcom CPS1 or CPS2 boards or the Neo Geo board and consolize it, make the arcade board into a Console as those boards have swappable games.

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 4 роки тому

      The Neo Geo was always the most obviously console-like Arcade system anyway. XD
      I mean, the prevalence of single cabinets with multiple games outnumbered anything else...
      Plus of course the home versions of the system - which are near enough the same hardware running the same games. (the cartridges are incompatible, but that's a DRM scheme - not to protect home cartridge sales - to protect against Arcades using the home cartridge... XD)

    • @lukasperuzovic1429
      @lukasperuzovic1429 4 роки тому

      @@KuraIthys Oh yeah, they didn't want Arcade operators to use 'at the time' cheaper Home Carts on the MVS system. Just to see decades later the MVS arcade carts becomes cheaper than the AES home counter parts. And all they did was make sure the Pin out was different on the Cart. Software wise all the games were the same, and it was the System's Bios that determines Region and Arcade or Console Mode

    So it looks like protection is still unemulated in MAME, at least six months ago when someone brought it up in the MAME subreddit. According to that same thread, even the version on Midway Arcade Treasures 2 had the same issue since the protection was so well done even Midway couldn't undo it for this release. So, original PCB all the way.

      Yep, there is a decryption chip on board to break the protection, which hasn't been reversed engineered into an algorithm. The problem is, it's an asic, it isn't a rom. It cannot be dumped, it would need to be etched and analyzed under magnification to be reverse engineered by a specialist. These people are too rare and quite frankly always have better things to do, sadly.
      Even midway's own PC rerelease of the arcade version had the SAME issues MAME faces, meaning not even they could figure out how to break the protection. Wow. The guy they put on copy protection really went above and beyond on that one...

    Thanks so much for posting this video! Very helpful as I’m currently shopping for a Primal Rage board set, myself. I happen to also use a Parsec and OSSC setup, and I’m happy to inform you that your Parsec supports stereo through JAMMA! All you need to do is switch on the JNX and Parsec stereo switches while everything’s off. I also recommend turning on the audio ISO (isolation) switch, again while powered off. I do this for my Neo Geo MVS and get very lovely stereo audio. Just be sure to put it back on mono for all your normal JAMMA boards (e.g. TMNT). It might be bad to still have the stereo on, I’m thinking since it’s a positive and negative channel for sound for the mono JAMMA audio standard whereas the stereo (Neo Geo style) is two positives, a left and right channel.

    Its so cool to see someone I watch interested in arcade stuff aswell as me. Atari/Midway boards are very weird designs in general so it doesn't surprise me that they play about with non-standard specs. I have a Gauntlet Dark Legacy boardset which was my favourite, especially because it uses a standard PCI Voodoo 2 (there's no special protection, I've used many 12MB cards before they became expensive). Was also the first board where a tantalum capacitor decided to spontaneously catch fire. Also, noticed that the converter you're using is using YPbPr Component? How compatible do you find that with TV/Monitors? Does it do any scaling?

    I really love arcade games, but am stuck emulating them, playing home ports or running ones that are cracked and use wibdows pc standard. I just like the test menus and quirks like that.
    While emulating, my favorite fact is that Naomi and atomiswave arcade platforms (dreamcast and slight 3rd party modification of naomi) save your credit status live in case of sudden power off or crash, once booted again the system remembers the credits.
    There is so much things to experience through test menus etc. Such as setting jamma or external sound in street fighter 3 or Jojo, knowing to use event or freeplay modes, and more.

    That RAGE adapter board that was a 1 of 2 limited run.... it appears to be the simplest board to have ever boarded .... You could personally reproduce that with relative ease, then even sell them I'd think. I mean... with today's silkscreen and PCB printing options, you could have that PCB shipped to you in bulk, as well as the literal few items needed to populate them. You have one, so reverse engineering would be as easy as continuity mode on the meter, and just tracing and logging..... Easy peasy

    Putt Putt was THE place back in the 90s to play arcade games. If they didn’t have it, you wouldn’t have wanted to play it. I’m pretty sure I single handedly wore out the steering wheels on the Super Off Road machines at one I played at regularly.

    You should do a vid on JAMMA superguns and arcade hardware like old PCB's. Growing up in the death of the arcade era in the early 2000's, I was lucky enough to experience games like Sunset Riders, Time Crisis, OG Tekken, and many other games at this knock-off Chuckie Cheese as a kid called GattiLand. 1st time I seen the PCB for Sunset Riders later on, I was blown away at how big the hardware is required to run that ONE game. It truly was a feat of technology to compress THAT into one cartridge, or CD sometimes. Now you can play it on MAME with the rom that is only a few megabytes. Technology has come a long fucking way!!

    @lgr If you want full range stereo sound from the sound board. You'll want to rewire JSPK left & right line out (1 - 4) to the mainboard. Otherwise you'll be getting high / subwoofer levels. Audio Configuration booklet has more detail.
    This is how I have my board setup with my supergun and receiving sound system.

    Dude you gotta do some arcade pcb vids on your main channel. It sounds like you have enough to put together a who's who and future plans for kinda video. That way you've done legwork for a jumping off point for future vids... You can just pick up with the updates and refer back to the first vid. Im sure people are interested in this stuff enough to warrant a few videos on it. Your previous cabinet videos seemed to be pretty well recieved anyways.
    Fingers crossed! Lol
    Cheers!🍻

But now I see this game has own climat, more in arcade version. I will be happy if will be video about Primar Rage 2 (but I know there's few PCB's, because it's not even finished).

    Oh yes Primal Rage one of the most underrated games by Atari in 1994. When it came out it was awesome it was like mortal Kombat instead of humans you have Dinosaurs and Two Giant Apes. Also the interesting part is the Copy Protection because it was never been defeated as such the most rom dumps don't work do the Tedious Copy Protection as result it doesn't on MAME very well and that's sucks since the original PCB are getting quite expensive this days. Still is awesome see in action.

    You should do a video on the DOS version. It's just a weirdly well done port, out of the slew of other ports, it one of the best. It's surprising well done in terms of performance. It also has Midi music, which is worth hearing, just because 'midi'. I remember getting it for PC back in the day and blowing my friends away with how close it was to the arcade version.
