The 9th generation of consoles came with the need for fast and rapid storage. Both the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 require super fast storage, with the former needing a proprietary Expansion Card to extend the SSD storage to both boot and store the games. Both consoles allow for external portable HDDs and SSDs to be plugged in via the USB ports, but this form of storage only allows for 8th gen on PS5 (which is just PlayStation 4 games), and for Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games to be played direct from the drive.
You’ll see that if you try to boot an Xbox Series X|S game that isn’t on your internal storage you’ll get the message that the game cannot be played from external storage, and that it will need to be transferred to internal storage. And this was, until recently, illustrated by the two arrows symbol, any games that had this symbol means that they need to be transferred to the internal storage to be played. But there used to me be games that didn’t have this symbol and that was an easier way to tell if a game could be booted from external storage or not. There are games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Sea of Thieves and We Happy Few, Star Wars Squadrons and Maid of Sker that despite being Xbox Series X|S games can be booted from the External Storage.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
But why do games need to be on the internal drive at all?
When Microsoft announced the Series X|S buzzwords like Xbox Velocity Architecture and Smart Delivery were brought in, with the latter being the tech behind knowing which version of the game should be downloaded from the store. So if you are on the base Xbox One, One S, One X, Series S or Series X, you would get the best available game for that system. Unfortunately for Series S owners they are quite hamstrung by the small capacity on 364GB (advertised as 500GB) yet, having to download large file sizes.

So how do I get Series X|S games to play off an External Drive?
Well, this won’t apply for all games but there are few games out there that are Xbox Series X|S certified such as Decenders, which has the X|S logo, but can be stored on External Storage.
You can press the VIEW Button, the button that has two over lapping squares just above the D-pad, then you can bring up a menu and then go to “file information”. From here you can see two important pieces of information, the first;
Is the “Gen” - it says Durango, (which was the pre-release code name for the Xbox One)
The second is “Console Type” - which says Xbox One Gen 9 Aware. Meaning that this the Xbox One version of the game but with certain features on the Xbox Series X|S
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
But why care?
Well games are starting to take up a huge amount of space, such as the Halo Master Chief collection and if you didn’t have to store this on your internal drive then it makes it a bit more palatable to have it as part of your collection when it can be stored externally, and yet still reap the benefits of the Xbox Series X|S.

I’m so mad about this cause for last gen I had a 5tb external for 100 bucks but now they want 200$ for 1tb for the sad external
I have a doubt.plz reply asap .if I bought a usb 3.0 pen drive which is 128 ,will it work as external storage???. Can I play games on that?
Different technologies I guess, remember that you can always use the External drive as storage and shuttle across games to and from the internal storage. It isn't ideal but your 5TB external HDD is still useful!
@@mirash_7747 I wouldn't recommend using a pen drive to store games on the Xbox, you would be better off buying a cheap portable HDD that is at least 1TB.
@@mirash_7747 I just use an old WD black 2TB platter drive I had laying around, in a USB 3 sabrient quick remove case. Works great for O.G. Xbox through Xbone One games, plus the very few X/S games that work on external. It’s so nice to not have to keep deleting games to be able to try something new on Game pass.
@@mirash_7747 I got a Seagate 3.2 1TB hard drive I wish Microsoft allow next gen games work
Microsoft needs to allow new games to play off external hard drives. If not they need to lower the prices of the official storage starting at $99 for the 1TB card.
Well you got your wish, slightly, the Seagate Expansion Card has just dropped in price so you might want to have a quick look into that!

This actually helped out a lot so I could move certain games to my hard drive to free up space for other games that need to be on the internal storage. This is huge for me as someone who is new to xbox
I only can have COD mw3 because it takes my entire storage yet my external hard drive is full. Honestly such a stupid thing

@@306_Zai Ik right!😢 such a shtty feeling knowing it’s only gonna get worse moving forward anyways u got any recommends for an external drive plzz?
This video stopped me from wasting money on a Internal Hard drive and it taught me how to properly use a external hard drive. Thanks!
Xbox did a poor job here. There are some games that don’t change wether it’s on x/s or just Xbox one. So having the option of being able install the next gen or old gen would be a lot better. The reason I bought the Series S was because I didn’t think I needed the X storage space because I have a 4tb hard drive, turns out I can only download a couple games on it. Now I need go out and buy the new SSD or whatever it is, just to install a pissing game.
Agree, having a feature that would essentially disable "Smart Delivery" would be good.
PlayStation 5 allows you to download the PS4 or PS5 version of the game. Which can sometimes be a difference maker.
I would say that the 4TB HDD is still useful though, it just means that you will need to transfer games back and forth. It can take up time but it is still faster than re-downloading.
The tip in the video is to see which games in your Xbox Series library are "Durango" games and then put them on your HDD. At least you know you won't need to transfer them back to your internal drive.
Just so you know, in your settings you can change it so it won’t show your email on your home page so you won’t need to cover it
This actually helped so much I had never thought of checking the code name before Ima sub good video man
Oh boy, great video. I had a few doubts on getting a HDD but now I'll go for it without fear to archive X One games
Thanks so much for the video. I recently upgraded to the xbox series x and many of the games are huge! I was confused on the type of storage device until I saw your video. Understanding the file type and what type of storage device it will play off of really helped! And it also gives me an idea of how a game will affect my storage. Prices for the storage devices are outrageous but biting the bullet now may save me in the long term. Again thanks!
All games that have gen code:durango will playable from usb external drive on both xbox series s and x consoles even if they have x/s logo.
For example i have Resident Evil 2 with x|s symbol but have gen code durango, it still playable on external drive ?
This video was very helpful as I was getting pretty confused and frustrated on why I had to transfer them back then this video explained my questions. Thank you!
Glad to have helped!
Im still losr on how can i play the enternal games i got
@@Itzrodmannn basically you can the series X/S games can only be played on the internal storage. while xbox one games and below can be played from the external drive.
Well that sux becuz I can’t play 2k cod and destiny on this becuz they r all too large smh
@@PurpSirus then what's the point of an external storage? I have a lot of games but no damn room on the Xbox so how do I play all my games without having to uninstalling them?
My question is what is the max amount of drives and the max amount of storage that can be supported on the Xbox Series XIS, when I mean drives I'm talking about the console's internal drive on it's own, those Seagate SSD expansion cards, and just regular external HDD and SDD drives
So, with the internal memory on the Series S (512GB but only 364GB usable) and the biggest 2TB Expansion Card (1.86TB usable) which gives you a total of 2.17TB (2226 divided by 1024)
The Xbox Series X has 1TB (802GB usable) - which would give it 2.59TB max.
Now here is where it gets tricky, because you could plug 3 drives into your Xbox Series X|S' available 3 USBs. Depending on how much you want to spend you could get some huge HDDs and plug them in there. You could plug in some hefty drives and get a lot of storage, but remember you'll still only be able to play the Codename Scarlett Xbox Series X|S from the Internal Storage/Expansion Card.

if you got help, please help me out. Im looking to buy a new external drive that is powerful enough to play next gen games from the external drive
So my external drive was a waste of money? Because all my games that are 40GB+ are forced to be on my internal drive so I only have like 5 or 6 games and only the other smaller games I have can be on the external drive. Good to know.
Exactly I have the same doubt... On internal you can have 3 or 4 games. So what's the purpose of external if you can't play them if they don't fit on internal???
Huge help I was wondering why I could play some x/s games but not others saves me a lot of time 🙏🏿 earned sub
WoW... this is some good information. I'm looking to buy some external storage for my Series X but didn't want to spend all that money on the proprietary cards for so little space. So I'll by a normal external drive (with the proper specs of course) and just now that I'll have to take a few minutes to transfer games back and forth, which I don't see me doing too often as I play one game for a while.
Please what external drive did u get ?
Xbox really chaps my a**. "Internal" storage or storage in general were never an issue, and in the grand scheme of things, its just a portable "gaming PC". This bottleneck shouldn't have ever become a thing.
Unfortunately some games require super fast storage to load assets into games among other things. Hard drives just can't get those speeds, and even external SSDs can't get to the speeds either. Some "Durango" games however seemingly don't require super fast storage (for one reason or another) so they can be played. Keep the "scarlets" on your Internal storage and "durangos" on your external storage device.
thank you for explaining the difference, finally a video that does! does a nvme m.2 drive work just as well as the xbox-branded storage though?
No problem. My understanding is that the Expansion Card slot is for a modified CFExpress card. So a m.2 drive won't work as a default storage option. (At least in a consumer friendly fashion anyway!)
Microsoft is an op for this one I am now moving any game that can be played externally to my external drive thank you sir
You don’t look like the janitor from Scrubs!
Hey man thank you a bunch now that I understand it the simplicity makes me feel dumb😂 have a good one
I’m convinced I’m the only person that has a 1tb series S, I got mine shorty after launch
A 1TB Series S? Are you sure? They should only be 512GB with 364GB usable space, but if you have a 1TB version you certainly are a very lucky one!!
@@NeilFlynnGaming yes it has 1tb of storage on it. It’s great so I don’t have to move my games between my console and hard drive all the time.
@@aspeekt8082you are talking out of your arse
I might have fixed it by randomly messing with my storage lol
This helps a lot thank you.
No problem! If you have any questions please do ask!
Sorry, I'm really struggling to understand your explanation. I feel like you were about to say the final bit where you explained your findings then stopped the video. What generations are you saying do what in terms of hdd usage behavior? Note i don't yet own an xbox and am trying to determine if i want one. Please can you confirm something else for me. Can I simply go and buy and install a game such as forza 4 from xbox 360 days on here? Or are you forced to play only via game pass?
Hey Dylan. Thanks for the question. The best way to describe this - Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One* games can ALL be played from external storage. Xbox One is the slight exception, for example some Xbox One games have been updated to Series X|S games for free, but now require to be on Internal storage to play. My complaint here is that you can't choose which version you get. If you are playing on Xbox Series X you get that version, there is no option to pick the Xbox One version. (e.g on PS5 you can pick either the PS4 or PS5 version to install). SOME and I will stress SOME, Xbox Series X|S games can be played from external HDD storage, as described in the video. Not a lot of them, but some of them. This isn't the best solution, but it is the only legitimate one. The reason why this is useful is that if you are playing any of the games from the Xbox Series X|S generation then you could potentially put some of them on your HDD and free up the internal drive.
As for your question on games ownership vs Gamepass. If, you wanted to purchase a game from the Microsoft Store to own forever then you can do that. You don't need to subscribe to Gamepass. Some games have since been de-listed, and unfortunately the Forza games have been hit hard by this. To my knowledge Forza Motorsport 4 is not compatible.
SOME physical games are, if you owned physical versions of back-compatible games then they will work in your Xbox Series X disc drive. (e.g an original Xbox 360 disc will work in the Series X, it will download the game from the store for free). BUT NOT ALL, check on the Microsoft Store website to confirm.
This may sound confusing, especially if you are new to Xbox. However it is more friendly then what the competition are offering.
I hope that helps and let me know if you need me to clear anything up.
It’s called forza horizon 4 you clown 🤡
I really hate that. They didnt do that when i was using Xbox one S I could just play games right off of the external drive and I did Not have to do any transfers. I hate how you have to do transfers now on the Series S just play the game.
I don’t understand, I was literally playing games on my external hard drive not long ago without an issue and this error randomly popped up
2k24 is 163 gigs i’m pretty sure the new gta will be too big to play on my series s at all
I still can't play any of my games downloaded on my external storage because it says I need to transfer it to my internal storage
But I don't have enough room on my internal storage can someone help me?
Love the conker music ❤️😂
Great video! Very useful info, thank you.
So i cant play most of my games from my external storage and need to move the games EVERY SINGLE TIME or i buy a kinda overpriced extra storage? There is not a single way i can use my external storage i have right now to play ALL my games on it?
My recommendation as per the video is to Keep the "scarlets" on your Internal storage and "durangos" on your external storage device.
External SSDs can be cheaper to purchase (rather than the Seagate Expansion card) and can transfer pretty quickly with speeds up to 2000 MB/s.
In one way it makes me concentrate on one or two games, complete them, and then move them off. (but I totally understand that this is not ideal!)
Then what’s the point of getting the external hard drive for extra space if you can’t play games on it?
I just bought this shit and now I’m about to return it 🤦🏽♂️
I still hate smart delivery.
What external hard drive should I buy so I can play even Xbox series x/s on it?
There is no option, only the expansions card
This actually kinda helped..spend $115 on a 2tb external hard drive xbox certified, had it all downloaded n was pissed when found out and thought it was pretty much useless n thought about returning it if I couldn't play my series s optimised games
How long does it take to move over a 100gb game like MW2 or so over to internal im thinking of buying the first gen seagate usb for $80 with 2tb so i wanna see if its worth it. Or whats an average amount of time it usually takes to transfer games around
@@markanthonypineda1243 just did it and it took me like 15 minutes.
@@datboiiju4123 i guess its better than a hour but it sucks that i really prefer to go the seagate route even tho i dont wanna pay the extra $150 but also i found some on ebay for $175($188) after tax free shipping) used and $185($199 after tax free shipping) so idk fuckin microsoft really pushes the convenience price and meaning to a new limit smh
Another example of why PC is better
Hey thanks man. We have the same set up. As far as memory. Only difference is I have an advertised 5 terabyte wd_black external hdd. This video helped so much. I kept downloading games to the drive and I would try to play it. If it won’t play I’d uninstall it. So thanks a bunch. I can go back to filling up the hard drive with a bunch of games on demand. I can skip cloud gaming 🙄 😆
Thanks Neil Flynn. Great video. Microsoft has screwed us all again. Durango and Scarlett. You think you'd get the option like PS5 to keep game as is. Yeah we can swap from internal to external. But microsoft are trying to force everybody into an expansion card. Great video thank you🙏🏼
Like why did I spend money on a brand new console to be able to hold 3 games. I literally have 2k, cod and fortnite and have 3.9 GB left.
If you knew those were the games you wanted to play and know how big they are then you're 1st instinct should have been "the series s is not for me."🙄
1006.1 gb wtf 😳 lol I’m I seeing that correct lol or Am I tripping
You’re tripping that’s not a lot it can only hold one cod game
@@lordpanda3975 bruh cod is 100-200 gigs
You are seeing it correctly, but it is only just about 1TB, this is the collective free space that I have available, from my internal drive, external 4TB HDD and external 1TB SSD combined.
Large AAA Game sizes can average somewhere in the 70-100GB range, but it really can vary!
@@NeilFlynnGaming oh ok through me off for a second lol I got the Wd black p10 4tb jus I never displayed like that I was bout to trade my for that one ☝🏽 lol
@@gothands450 really? What does it say down in the bottom hand corner for you then? Maybe it won't say 1TB because technically is 1024GB in 1TB so I am 18GB short of it saying "1TB available space"
They need to fix this
It sucks, I recently got a new console and I was given a Samsung 1Tb external drive and now I gotta use my birthday money to get a new one cause honestly transferring games on a Xbox series s is so annoying and Best Buy has it for 149.99 and all the other places have it for 200 like idk bout anyone else but I’m down to save a few bucks. But I’m not getting a damn refurbished that’s for sure. I was gonna buy all game pass and a new controller but it will have to wait.
It depends on how many games you are playing at one time. If you feel the need to have access to more than 5 games at a time then getting an Expansion Card might be the way forward. I totally understand if you want access to any and all of your games at any given time.
For me I feel like it makes me focus on completing and playing a certain few games and then I transfer them off to my external HDD once I have completed them. Remember that Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games can all boot from your external too, as can some Xbox Series X|S games.
If I just own a Xbox one s, is the ssd the best deal because it is not like I have any games which are optimized for series X or S?
So Scarlett means can’t be played on storage
While Durango means playable on storage?
I missed the part where it's shown how to play series x and s games from external storage. Please someone explain it to me.
What I understood:
- The normal way is to transfer the game from the external storage to the internal storage and you can play it.
- You could play an xbox one version of the game but you can't download it in the Xbox ecosystem it's not an option to download xbox one games on the series s/x
yes the fuck it is an option to download xbox one games on a series, whoever told you otherwise LIED
i have a series and i have xbox one games downloaded…
There are a few, and only a select few, Xbox Series X/S games, that are slightly different. (This is what I am talking about with Scarlett vs Durango).
I give some examples of which are the Durango games in the video. These games, and other Durango games can be played off an External Drive.
I have no idea where you get where I said you cannot play Xbox One games? Xbox One games are fully compatible with the Xbox Series X and S, whether installed on the Internal or External drive.
@@NeilFlynnGaming
Thanks for the answer!
What I meant is that it's not possible to download Xbox one version if you have series X. But since then I've found out that you can choose which version you want to download, at least for Call of Duty.
some games dont have “scarlett” or “durango” in there file info, so what should i look out for instead?
Is that Conkers theme playing?
It is indeed!
I thought this was just a way to force us to buy the memory expansion cards which the system is programmed to accept as internal storage. I just don't get why the higher priced official XBOX expansion card (has 1TB M.2 SSD chip inside) costs more than a normal 1TB M.2 SSD or I would have already bought the darn thing.
The funny thing is that the Expansion card is not an M.2 SSD, but actually a modified CF Express card instead, so it is much slower than what a M.2 NVME SSD could achieve. Funnily enough they could achieve a fairly decent speed over USB 3.2 and an external SSD.
I am no expert as to why Microsoft programmed it this way, may it is a way to sell Expansion cards, or maybe there is another reason.
@@NeilFlynnGaming The reason my XBOX gives me is new games need faster storage than an external can provide but one of my 2 externals is an official XBOX SSD external and it still gives me that lame excuse when the internal is also an SSD. I think they just want to make money.
So I spend 200 for a hardrive and it’s not enough storage 🤦🏻
Dumb decision on Microsoft’s part. As a series x owner the Proprietary drive has ruined the new console experience for me.
There are plenty of games that should just ask you which version to download and make a lesser but playable experience in my opinion.
Most digital games come with both versions of the game Xbox 1 and Series X/S and you can choose Xbox 1
As far as I am aware, there is not a way to legitimately turn off the Smart Delivery system. If you are on Xbox Series X or S then it will download the best version of the game for that system. Happy to be proven wrong though!

It is the same with the PS5 too, that needs an M.2 NVMe drive to boot games. At least "some" Xbox Series XS games can boot off an external drive, although not many. If buying an Xbox Expansion Card is a bit too costly at the moment then finding a fast SSD external drive could be the other alternative and then shuttle games back and forth. Although it is a bit annoying!
So, what if I had a game that was series x/s compatible and I put on on my external drive, would I still be able to play that game online?
If that Xbox Series XS game was a "Durango" game, then you can still certainly play it online via an external HDD/SSD. There would be no issues with that. However, have in mind that they can always upgrade game to XS, such as the Resident Evil games (2,3 and 7) which have just got updates.
@@NeilFlynnGaming ok thanks for the info
If I network transfer my FH5 from my One S to my series S onto a external drive will I be able to play it?
You don't have to network transfer it. If you have upgraded your Xbox One S to an Xbox Series S then all you need to do is take that External drive from your old One S to your Series S and plug it straight in. (Some games will need updating to Series S versions.).
Have in mind, that if you want to go back and forth between your Series S and One S (for whatever reason) then you may need to update the games again (or in this case downgrade them) so they can play on One S. (The Xbox does this automatically for you).
IMPORTANTLY - Forza Horizon 5 is a Series X|S game and HAS to be installed on the internal storage to play the game. If you play on Series S then make sure you have enough space to have it installed. You can store it on your External HDD but you will need to transfer it to the internal storage to play it. It is 117.9GB on Series S.
Hope that helps!
The mcc works and is x\s

If you are on your Dashboard on the Xbox then follow these steps;
1)Press the Xbox button in the middle of the controller to bring up the menu
2)Scroll all the way to the until you are hovering over the thumbnail of your avatar, and then scroll down to the "Settings" menu
3)In Settings, scroll down to the "System" section and then select "Storage Devices"
4)Go to the drive you want to format, Press A - and then select "Format". If you re-format for Games and Apps then have in mind that you will lose anything that you have stored on there.

Short answer: no
I hate the fact I can’t play on my external storage isn’t that the point more storage to play more games????🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Seems like a cash grab for a $200 memory expansion
It is a case of not having external drives that are fast enough, most SSDs don't match the internal speeds of the Xbox, so I would suspect this being the reason. Personally, I am ok with having external drives and just moving them to the internal drive when I am going to play them. At the same time if I had one of the Expansion Cards I'd love it for the convenience!
What about apps? Can I run apps like Netflix or Disney+ from the external hard drive?
Yes it can! Some of my apps are installed on the external HDD, although to be fair the apps don't really take up that much space at all. Netflix is 6.9MB, Disney is 85MB, Apple TV 38MB, UA-cam 64MB, Prime Video is 3.8MB!
My question is there. Any ssd storage hardrive that will play series x/s games?

have you heard of smart delivery on the series x & s games some older tittles from the xbox one era have this look on the back of the box look up what smart delivery is it is a free upgrade too the next gen consoles ????
Smart Delivery is just a term that Microsoft use to let people know that the correct version of the game is being played on their console of choice.
That means if there is a cross generation title of a game Microsoft may have up to FIVE versions of the same game, (Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X) but your Xbox will automatically do this for you.
(Some people don't like this idea though, because sometimes file sizes are much larger, e.g If you have a Series S but are happy playing the Xbox One version)
I like Smart Delivery, it is a clever system but it would be good to have the option to download any of the other versions if you prefer to do so.
Hey good day, I have a question.
I have a series S and bought a 4tb game drive expansion storage. It says I need to download games in the internal storage so I can play off of external storage. If I want to download more games, wouldn’t the internal storage be full? Thank you in advance.
Hi Eric, thanks for watching the video.
Xbox Series X/S games NEED to be on the Internal Drive to be played, with the exceptions that I mention in this video, the ones that are code named "Durango" can be played off of External Storage. There are only a few games that are Durango, but if you have any Durango games then put them on the External storage as they will work.
If you want to download more games you can download them to the External Drive, and when you want to play them transfer it to the internal drive.
@@NeilFlynnGaming is there a list of some kind that show what games have the Durango thing?
@@joseagc1 yeah because I’m was saying what’s the point of and external harddrive
@@Bwa sorry for being late to answer, but I think the point of the external is to make it fast for you to switch games on and off of your Xbox. If you have (for example) warzone on your external and want to play it internal, it actually makes it faster to download the game as you're just moving it. Try planning what games you'll play before moving. If you don't have an external, then you would have to take time reinstalling games on the Xbox which is longer than just moving games between drives which is faster.
So what's the purpose... Of buying external if internal let's you have 3 games max and the others can't be played from external??
Merry Christmas
Damn so basically the games I have consistently has updates
Just bought a Series S recently and have already filled my internal. So with an external ssd I can store these digital games and just have to transfer everytime I want to play one? Am I understanding this correctly?
If money is not an issue then the best solution is purchase the Expansion Card (@0:44). This will allow you to play games directly from the storage but it is expensive. There are certain Xbox Series X/S Games that you can store and play on external storage (but only a few, as described in this video).
If you were to buy an External HDD or SSD it doesn't matter, as they both have the same restrictions. An SSD would help transfer games back and forth much quicker, but these are also quite expensive in high capacities. So it really depends on how many Xbox Series X/S games you are looking to purchase. I have 35 Xbox Series S games on my 1TB external SSD, but most of these need to be transferred back to the internal storage to be played, however, the transfer speeds are much faster. I keep all of my Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games on the 4TB HDD I own, I have 250+ games on here. You don't need to transfer original Xbox, Xbox 360 or Xbox One games to the internal drive to be played so that is why I keep them on the HDD.
Hope that helps!
U can put a m.2 on Xbox series s/x by the way
What if ordinary external?
Crazy that windows 10 operating system takes up way less room than the Xbox OS I don't understand this at all
So my 2 TB hard drive is useless...... cool
Now in 2024, how do you know before downloading the Xbox Series optimized game that it will work on the external hard drive? can you help me
Wait so if i had already a eternal hard drive with games already and put it on the series x and download them to the series to get optimize and put them back to the eternal hard drive could i still play?
No, unless they were still codenamed Durango. That means that over time some Xbox One games will receive updates which will force you to have the Xbox Series X|S version, and thus force you to have it on internal storage to play. This is due to the Smart Delivery system, which always gives you the best version for the console you are playing on, but unfortunately doesn't give you the choice to install any version you want.
My thing doesn’t have the 2 arrows i don’t know if it’s the same thing but when I go to my games it just shows a cloud or nothing
So in short. Nobody should buy an HDD. It’s a waste a money and they should give everybody who bought it a refund correct?
My only concern is: do I essentially own the games I buy since they’re installed on the hard drive? If Xbox were to ever shut down or servers went down, would I be able to plug in the drive and play my games directly off it, provided they’re compatible to be played directly off the drive? I understand that if the games are installed onto you internal drive you can access them offline, but what about external drives? Ownership of the games I buy is such a big deal to me. Thank you for any help 🙏🏼
The amount of unnecessary info in this video is actually crazy. You could not have made this more confusing
Ok my question is do games work on the Xbox expansion card than you can buy? Or does it have the same problem as a normal external hard drive plugged in by a cord?
The Expansion Card acts as an extension to the Internal memory, so if you get one of these then you won't need to keep transferring games back and forth. However, they are quite expensive in comparison to USB External SSDs and HDDs. Maybe you might find a good Black Friday deal!
So if I buy a storage expansion card I can play series x and a games on that right? And wouldn’t need a external
That is correct, the Expansion Card is additional storage that can play any game off of it, however it is more expensive than buying a standard hard drive or external SSD.
The expansion card is as fast as the internal storage.
@@NeilFlynnGaming are you saying there is literally 1 choice for storage if you refuse to have to copy games over and jus want to play them whenever ?
Can you get an adapter for an external drive to work?
i watch this like 2 times, where is the solution? im missing it
I bought a seagate for his x box series S. So he can’t play games from
The drive since the economy has space for 2 -3 games?
So pretty much we can just move the games back and forth to play
Why does it say I have 1.5tb left but won’t let me download games and saying u need more space in enteral storage
Fuck me, how ridiculously confusing. Gaming fucking sucks.
Take me back to the oh-so-simple days of the ZX Spectrum... !
It's easy once you know how though. I just keep my newer games on faster storage and my older games on the slower storage. It is only because I own too many games!!
My Xbox is full so if I transferred my games to external storage, how long would it take to re download them on to internal storage my internet isn’t amazing only about 100 mgbs
I think the external hard drive that you also have applies to how quickly it can be transferred over as well
@@blankname6629 yeah it really quick only 20mins for a 100gb transfer idc what anyone says thats Fast! With my wifi downloading gta again would take me 20hrs-28hr cause my wifi is that slow so i can happily just watch youtube for 20mins and it will be done transfering
@@christiansantamaria7233 20 mins is very fast compared to the 6-7 it would usually take
Is there a way to know which gen is the game before dowloading it? for example, for games in the store. I don't want to buy them to find out
I noticed I had a game on ssd and it was a x/s and was not transferred and worked for me was strang didn't know why thanks
