Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance - Anansi Vol.037 [ENGLISH SUBS] - Ігри
"Anansi the spider was a trickster who lived in a small village in Africa. A witch named Five lived in Anansi’s village, too. Five did not like her name, so she cast a spell on the village. Anyone who said her name would fall asleep for a year.
Soon after, there was a famine all across Africa. A famine is when there is not enough food to eat. Anansi, his wife, and his children had no food and were starving.
Anansi noticed that Rabbit had some corn and came up with a brilliant plan for how to steal it. Anansi went to visit Rabbit and politely asked: “How many piles of corn do you have?”
Rabbit counted his piles of corn out loud: “One, two, three, four, five.” As soon as the word “five” came out of his mouth, Rabbit fell fast asleep.
Pleased with himself, Anansi gathered Rabbit’s corn and carried it home. Rabbit’s corn lasted Anansi’s family for a few weeks, but then they ran out and were hungry.
This time Anansi tried his trick on Squirrel. It was a great success! Squirrel’s corn fed Anansi’s family for another few weeks, but then it ran out and they were hungry.
Anansi decided to try the same trick on Goose. But Goose was too smart for Anansi; she knew what the trickster was up to.
“How many piles of corn do you have?” Anansi politely asked Goose.
Goose smiled and counted out loud: “One, two, three, four… And the pile that you’re sitting on.”
Anansi was furious that Goose didn’t fall for his trick like the other animals did.
“No,” he shouted, “That is not how you count. Watch me: one, two, three, four, five.” Anansi fell asleep as soon as the word “five” came out of his mouth.
This time it was Goose who was please with herself. Not only did she trick the trickster, but she was still left with... How many piles of corn?"
I love who the story ends like that with a question lol
I think there was a total of five… 😴

...i guess I'll just...take his corn....
I remember seeing this as a play when I was a kid. Except the spider was a girl as well, and the bird carried her off to eat her at the end.
So happy to have another African based demon in the SMT series.
I know right? They’re really lacking in them. Nice to have more than just Pazuzu
Yeah, but people often times forget that he is also a part of Jamaican folklore as well
@@-_Cha05_- oh wow! That’s cool. I had no idea myself so thanks for correcting me. I kinda wanna research how that connection happened.
@@orngcreator6115 Slave trade. When slaves were brought over they carried with them their stories and have passed them down for generations
@@burnsideex5949 oh wow. That definitely makes sense. I had initially assumed it was from post slavery pan africanism but it’s definitely more likely that the tradition comes from the effects of slavery.
Bro is the original Spider-Man.
Actually doing research on Anansi made me appreciate a lot of little things here. One thing I noticed is that Anansi uses “アタシ/Atashi”, a very feminine pronoun.
But this actually is a really cool nod to the fact that Anansi actually is referred to by feminine names at times too. There’s Nancy, Sis’ Nancy, Aunt Nancy, and potentially others.
I think the only thing I can’t put my finger on is the skill name “What Comes After Four”, but it might come down to me just not reading enough myths about him.
From what I've read, apparently it has to do with an Anansi myth which involved a witch named Five who cursed anyone who says her name because she didn't like it. I could be wrong on the details but that's what I've gleamed.
Shin Megami Tensei Five Vengeanzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........
The myth about "what comes after four" was posted by @noway7774, check it out!
Your friendly neighboorhod Anansiman🎶🎶
Mothman next yippee!
We need a 10ft moth an plush
I can’t believe their putting the first Spider-Man in the game
I don't know much about African mythology (beside the egyptian one) and culture, but I'm pretty sure there's a lot of demon and gods to see from there, so I'm very glad Atlus decided lately to try their hand with newer options from barely used mythologies.
Very neat that a handful of African mythological entities are being used here. In most mythology discussions, it’s often glanced over.
Im so happy for Anansi's inclusion, he definitely deserves to be here with how cool he is as an african deity 🕷
Vengeance sure is introducing a good number of African mythological characters, very cool to see
Spider Vishnu
If there was a demon I hope is one day represented in Megaten, it would ne Koschei the Deathless.

I can already hear the "muito real" memes in the distance.
Anansi's design is fantastic! I like how Atlus interpreted him.
Mr. Nancy In Da House!!!
Only a month left so many demons I want to use in the game this being one of them
I would have put it in a P5 game, as much as Trickster
Anger is good, anger gets shit done
Best.
Disappointed there aren't more American Gods fans in this comment section
Ohh, we're here... :D
@@AdeptGuidance I will say, I liked Nancy better in the book
Cool! We need more African demon representation. Maybe the Ninki Nanka could be a Dragon or Snake demon?
I am so glad SMT is giving African folklore some love! It's super neglected in other series.
I'm kinda over just Greek, Norse, and Japanese gods getting these retold stories where even the unnotable footnotes in their tales get fully fleshed out stories.
Me too. It’s pretty rare to see African mythology portrayed in media. I’ve been kinda wanting more of them in SMT in the back of my head for some time and I’m very pleasantly surprised. Vengeance just gets better and better
For years I thought about how cool it would be to have Anansi as a demon in an SMT/Persona game and now it's finally happening😢🎉 thank you Atlus! There are so many demons from African mythology that could be used! Like the orisha/orixas for example!
Zennyata looking demon
It's all fine and dandy, but about the sons of Anansi??
(man, so happy that Anansi is in this game!)
I think the What Comes After Four is supposed to be What Comes After Death.
4のつぎ->四のつぎ->死のつぎ
It’s don’t think so, the name “what comes after 4” is apparently a reference to a popular story about Anansi cursing the word “five”. “What comes after 4” is also the official translation shown In promo footage.
How many insects are we gonna get in this video series?!
Anyone know what his special skill's effects are?
Muito Real next
I can hear the YMCA tunes already.
