the truck mode is honestly not that much worse than mp-10, which is astounding that they achieved that with all the lego design restrictions
The truck mode aint bad at all it
Even though the Lego version of the truck-mode still ain’t *necessarily* perfect, but it’s really not the worst. And it ain’t bad at all.
Transformation itself is way easier too...
@@TOXICYT2016 I’m not a fan of the gaps in the sides of the cabin but I can overlook it due to all of the articulation and the transformation.
It's better than the super clunky MP01 yet basically the same size.
Your reviews are the only reviews that matter to me when it comes to lego my dude. Appreciate you.
100%. Completely objective, no senseless rambling, gives off a professional and calming vibe, and just overall informative. Imo if you’re not watching Jang for Lego reviews you’re doing it wrong
I 100% agree with you.
It's hard to explain but every other popular Lego reviewer is either incredibly critical on every dumb minor thing, or they complain about stuff that doesn't matter.
But Jang keeps it enjoyable and actually positive!
Really high respect for Jang
I've unsubbed from all the others due to their annoying criticisms and unfair judgments.
I expected the truck form to require disassembly or be an alternative build. Actually having a transformation sequence reasonably close to the original is very impressive.
As a lifelong Transformers fan, this thing is a dream come true! Really enjoyed your review!
I feel exactly the same! Now, if they could do the same with Soundwave, I would be ecstatic!!
As a huge transformer fan and someone who owned a ton, this is honestly really impressive for Lego and I am super excited to see what other transformers come out next.
I’d hope for at least Megatron and Bumblebee
@@claythompson1944 I wouldn't bet on Megs. He usually transforms either into a gun or a tank. Both things that Lego tries to avoid.
Most likely a bumblebee is on the way. They probably have had trouble bc it’s a smaller Transformer
They won't come out with anymore this is a one off also they will never do Megatron he transforms into a gun big nono for lego
Soundwave. Gotta be.
If I sell enough organs I may be able to afford this…
*Jang Pulls out a second Optimus*
I really want them to do a Soundwave next. It would be so cool having multiple of his minions able to transform and be stored inside of his chest as cassettes
Fun fact: the LEGO designer involved in this project, Joseph Kyde, is a former Hasbro employee, who used to work in their Transformers division. He was also involved in a lot of LEGO Minecraft sets!
what makes this version even better is that for the most part the transformation is identical to the g1 toy
My grandfather used to say, "if you enjoy spending the money then it's invested not wasted". In this case that 300+ dollars was invested in pure happiness.
Like me and the ninjago city sets.
I had a large Optimus figure as a kid, and I'm incredibly impressed with how accurate this set is to its scale and the transformation. I wouldn't have thought Transformers could work so well as Lego sets.
I dreamed of a working lego transformer since I was a kid. Back then I tought it wasn't possible. Amazing to see an official set and see how well it is executed!
The Big Kid joy on Jang's face at the end when he rolled out his second Optimus is a sight to behold.
it's why we LEGO and LEGO knows it.
I'm not a Transformers fan but this is one of the coolest sets LEGO has ever done.
would love to see Bumblebee and Megatron next, i wish LEGO do this for playset too because i can see a lot of kids having enjoy playing with it.
Yes for sure. The good thing is, most other characters are shorter than Prime, so they would be cheaper. Except for Megatron, of course.
But making any giant characters like Devastator or Omega Supreme and making them scale to Prime, would be pure madness, haha (unless the combiners could be sold separately, but that's thinking waaaay ahead.)
💯
I highly doubt LEGO would make a G1 Megatron considering it transforms into a pistol. Though even just from looking up images to confirm that it transforms into a pistol, without even searching 'LEGO' I got a bunch of images of pretty neat looking MOCs so there is at least that.
Would love to see them do Soundwave with Lazerbeak and Rumble
I've been waiting for literally years for something like this to come out and finally it exists
Fantastic review as always Jang. As a massive G1 Transformers fan, I’m definitely getting this. I absolutely loved the reveal at the end, put a massive smile on my face.
Jang never disappoints. I was literally thinking how cool it would be to have a size comparison of the the Voltron Lego and he did it
It's a really impressive model. If I was going to pay that much for an Optimus Prime, personally, I'd prefer a dedicated transforming figure, of which there are plenty. But the novelty of having an official Lego Optimus Prime definitely carries a lot of bonus value.
My only gripe is that I wish he had knees for more posing options, but I suspect that would have compromised his ability to stand. Still, some nice poses are available, so it's a minor gripe.
When I was a kid, I used to dream of a functional Lego transformer. When I was 10, I tried to build one. While it didn’t turn out great, seeing one officially released is magical.
The transformation on the model is so clean and simple. As a transformers collector this transforms better than most toys that Hasbro releases.
I must say, there is something truly enjoyable about when I see you review a set that you really enjoy. I feel it embodies the spirit of being an AFOL. I got back into Lego in 2020 as a way to find happiness through everything that was going on. Your enthusiasm reminds me of the value of still taking joy in the type of things that have always brought us happiness. Thank you Jang!
This particular review video is the best example of why I enjoy and consider your content first. Clear, concise, informative, based on value of product before license, and then end… “These are for me..” love it.
that’s sick!! Thanks for the jet pack behind the truck tip. Very cool
Good overall review of what is a fine piece of work by Lego. The comparisons at the end were enjoyable and seeing the two versions side by side is a treat. Thanks for the review, Jang!
Your happiness is infectious, Jang, hope you enjoy! Thanks for the review, pleasure to watch as always.
Would be interesting to make Nemesis Prime with these instructions.
surprised how clean the back looks even without the backpack attachment. you could really tell how much thought was put in designing this!
this design is just incredible. For a lego set to look this good while in two completely different states. Big up to the designers and sick review!
I’ve loved transformers and Lego since the age of 4 and this model makes me SOOOO happy!
The beginning and end portions of the video I kept getting distracted by the Gunpla in the background I’ve been into Gunpla since I was 16. This video just made me really happy thanks Jang for the great video!
I had to have this unique Lego build as a huge lover of Transformers. I found that the build parts were pretty complex and very sturdy. The whole look of the finished Optimus Prime was impressive, as was the transformation into the truck.
All in all a very satisfying product, I can fully understand that you even bought a second copy!
Such a cool set and I’m so happy Lego and Hasbro finally made it happen. That being said I still am not a huge fan of them licensing brand new themes purely for one off collector sets. Especially when they’re so expensive. A full range of Lego Transformers, or Lego Sesame Street, or Lego Winnie the Pooh could be very popular with kids.
That jet pack bit in vehicle mode is awesome😁 Once I build mine I will definitely do that!
My brother and I built this a few days ago and I am so glad with the final product. I would love to see more like Optimus Prime, including Bumblebee, Starscream, Grimlock, and Megatron.
What I know of the fandom, starscream would sell amazingly.
Sold! And, like you, likely twice. My head is swimming with ideas of how to build a proper, transformable trailer for this. Thanks for sharing!!!
Mine is still in the box, ready for me to build. Thanks for the review!
Great looking build! Imagine if a MOC trailer was added with the wings and extras!
I hope they make a lego SoundWave next. I would love to see a chest mechanic to pop out transforming cassette tapes.
Superb review. I'm more of a transformers collector than Lego these days, but I knew your review on this would be on point.
I was skeptical when he was announced but he looks pretty amazing. I hope he is the first of many LEGO Transformers and that they make Soundwave next. Thanks for the excellent detailed review (as always).
Only had a couple transformers as a kid. This is really amazing regardless, I really wanted Optimus Prime at the time
I just finished building this lovely model. OMG, i love it, it just hits all the notes of my childhood: Lego and Transformers and i had the original Optimus Prime toy, so this was like a trip down memory lane.
I've been a LEGO fan since about the age of 6 and a Transformers fan since 13 when they debuted in 1984. I was making my own, and continue to make my own, transforming robots & mecha with LEGO to this day. However, I've wanted official LEGO Transformers since their first appearance nearly forty years ago. The reality of this set is, as I imagine it is for most Transformers and LEGO fans, literally a dream come true. Considering the restrictions the designers have to work under, this turned out exceedingly well, better than I expected, TBH, limited articulation notwithstanding. For those unaware, the primary designer of LEGO Optimus Prime , a gentleman by the name of Joe Kyde, used to work for Hasbro designing...you guessed it... Transformers, including some Optimus Prime toys among others. For Joe, having the opportunity to work not only on official Transformers toys, but to bring that experience over to LEGO is a dream come true for him as well, and for all of us who've wanted this collaboration to happen, we're fortunate to have that influence and experience within the LEGO Design Team. Who knows what else may 'Roll out' of LEGO in the future? My digits are crossed for more.
Great review, as always, Jang. For someone, surprisingly, unfamiliar with Transformers, you acquitted yourself quite well transforming him on camera. I'm a long-experienced LEGO builder and Transformers fan with sizeable collections of both, and I still have a wee bit of difficulty manipulating Prime's arms into their alcoves for truck mode. Cheers to showing this old timer how it's done!
As someone with no experience with transformers, this is cool.
Watching your Lego reviews and watching other creators, like Emgo316 and Optibotimus, review transformers was the biggest part of my childhood, and now watching you transform a Lego set is like the biggest crossover for me 😂
Jang! Awesome review as always! Super excited for this and Optimus is en route and feel the same enthusiasm with having a G1 Optimus on the shelf - will go next to the WFC figures and Threezero DX! Keep up the amazing content and you ROCK! 🤘🏼👊🏼
Just picked this boy up yesterday for my backlog. Very excited to get to him!
Really impressed with how the model came out. Will be honest I wasn't totally convinced when it was revealed initially, it seemed like it COULD end up in a "compromise hell" situation (simplified model with very limited function, messy looking, etc...) That said, I'm glad to say that it actually ended up disproving all those expectations. BOTH "settings" of the model look absolutely CLEAN (the best part), the transformation function works, and the thing actually being rather "supple" in terms of articulation/movement of different parts, while still managing to remain sturdy. And even the small details, like the alternate belt/bumper piece, the blaster fitting in the back, and whether intentionally or not, the jetpack being able to be fixed on the back, the compatibility between the various elements and the customizability is simply awesome. Definitely success on Lego's and the designer's part.
Okay, I was not expecting that the transformer itself could transform. I thought the truck was a separate build, that you had to take apart to build it. But you don't have to build anything. That's awesome.
Got and built mine a few days ago and I couldn't be happier. I've been a life long Transformers fan and I couldn't be any happier to have this set. Never in my life could I ever think Hasbro would collab with Lego to make this. Especially since some years ago Hasbro rolled out Kre-o to compete with Lego.
Can't wait to get mine in a couple days! Finger crossed they do a Soundwave next.
I’ve waited for this all of my life
Soundwave has to be next, he's perfect for this and could come with Ravage and Laserbeak
Would love to see how truck Optimus looks with other similarly scaled LEGO cars like Speed Champions, or even see how he looks in your LEGO city!
this is just so cool, and the truck looks amazing
Finally bought Lego Optimus with these end of year sales. Definitely want to try and fit some mini-figs in his chest
Great review! Highly recommend checking out the Earthrise/Kingdom Optimus Prime even if you don't collect Transformers just to get a sense of the brand these days. The level of engineering in a toy you could buy at Target is absolutely staggering.
One of my favourite reviews from you, I respect you so much for buying a second Optimus just to display it in vehicle mode 😂
Great review, and incentive to get one of these despite the price. Owning the original MP01 I find it astonishing this is actually taller than that one and about as accurate in truck mode though does a better job of the feet placement in transformation. Also out of just about every toy rendition I've seen during my TF collecting phase this probably has the best, most unobtrusive weapons placement in vehicle mode. Good job Lego. Fun fact. This actually has more steps in the transformation than the original G1 toy, though this I think is the first version I've seen where the gas tanks are turned sideways for whatever reason. Personally they just look better unadjusted from vehicle mode. Would love to see Megatron next year though other than a full size gun/military esque tank not sure what else Lego would be comfortable making him.
they can just have you swap out pieces of Megatron for orange. That means it's not a military vehicle.
I have been wanting a lego transformer for soooo long. So I can’t wait to get this :)
I grew up on Transformers in the 80s so seeing Lego make a legit Optimus that actually transforms, not going to lie I felt like a big kid when I bought this. Definitely a cool set and getting to build this with my daughter having two generations of transformers fans made my day
I've noticed the parts in the ankle joint (in front of the foot, opposite the heel) where the red tile sits always pops out from time to time when standing and during the transformation where it becomes part of the hubs for the rear wheels. I wish that part of the build had more friction holding it together.
The articulation & stability note is something I have in my old Cybertron Primus figure so it's not just a LEGO issue.
While watching this I was thinking it would be cool to have both versions on display. Imagine my surprise at the end!
I’m not a Transformers guy at all, but to me this set is a definite purchase. The detail, the design of the model, the transforming, it’s all so good
Great review. Built it the day it came out. The gap between the chest and shoulders in vehicle mode drove me crazy. Thought I did something wrong.
While I myself don't plan on getting this set, I am hoping this does well enough to at least get a Lego Megatron in the future.
Megatron is a gun not happening with lego
Hopefully we see more of these in the near future
My Optimus is out for delivery, Sunday June 5. Can’t wait to get it, looks great!
Loving all the Gunpla in the background, how did I not know you were into that?!
Looks sick! I'm glad it can also transform!
This and the Delorean are just amazing
I will love to see a G1 Devastator Lego set.
Displaying this next to my MP-01! My two worlds (lego and transformers) coming together has been surreal
Every ball joint can be a... SWIVEL.
SO happy you got this set quickly! One I hope to pick up soon myself!
If only LEGO had achieved this in 2014 or earlier, so Bionicle G2 could've been Bioformers.
This is truly an amazing feat for Lego, I would love to see this next to the UCS AT AT, it would be even cooler if they made an iron giant.
Amazing for a Lego👍🏽 … thanks for the honest review! Last time i seen your review was yrs ago with r/c lol
I would consider buying him but I am turned off by limited articulation. Great review, Jang. Lighting and editing are great.
Noice. Still waiting for the G1 Constructicons.
This is like when they first revealed the mp-01 18 years ago. Hardly the perfect prime, but still amazing and I want it.
Twist the knee rotation outwards a little bit to get his legs to lean a little bit further forward, then move both hips back one click. It'll give him a hip thrust kinda pose, but not leaning forward anymore
I’ve never really been a Transformers fan, but I reeeaaallly want this set. It looks so good!!
That truck looks great to see!
I think they could have done some form of knee articulation, that area is chunky and bulky enough to hide either a retracting joint or some other joint. Feels a bit like they built from top down and didnt really have the time or piececount to do the legs. Im sure the aftermarket will have some ideas as to how to modify and implement it. But I think it would push it over the edge of being "perfect" or "as best as possible" with knee articulation.
My Universes(G1 Transformers + LEGO) collided with this set and can't wait to get it Monday!
I'm gonna need to take out a small loan if they start doing other Autobots and Decepticons.
I really like how covered from the back the legs are
Until the end of last year I had collected Gunpla since 2002. When my hands became shaky and I couldn't customise or paint how I wanted I ended up selling my collection of HGs and Rags. When my 3yr old son became a big Lego fan around the time I too got into the hobby and between us we have a good Star Wars collection now. For me I've had more fun creating MOCs than I did with Gunpla.
I admit, whilst I do like Transformers I am not too into G1 mainly because I've been spoiled with Transformers: Animated and TF: Prime, and even then I stopped collecting them and sold my entire collection to make room in my house, but this is impressive and if ever I was to get back into Transformers I would certainly pick this up. Too bad I am currently saving up for the new Passenger train and the Minecraft Llama town right now and recently spent all my Lego points getting the new Cargo train so I'll probably pass for now. To all who are getting it, I'm sure you will enjoy =)
‘Autobots roll out!’ ‘Till all are one’.
The best reviews #notsponsored jang
It's interesting that when you transform Prime in truck mode and add the gun storage, it looks like the top of the gun makes a trailer hitch..... Possible future build?? Trailer/repair bay??
I honestly think I'm going to keep this set in it's truck form. I know that might seem weird to some people, but I don't really want a standing Optimus Prime on my shelf. However, a classic looking Lego truck that reminds me of my childhood toys? I have to get it, just for the nostalgia.
brilliant video, i'm convinced i need one. extra value if you get it during GWP promo
I’m going to get this set hopefully, but I may experiment with giving it knees
If I ever were to use lego as art in my living room, it would be an array of 8 Optimus Primes, all posed in gradual transformation from truck to humanoid
One thing I really appreciate about Jang's reviews is that he always displays them in the most aesthetically pleasing way possible. I always look at Jang reviews for mechs and dragons before I pull the trigger on anything.
Man, I dont know.
I'm not a transformer fan, but I am a fan of LEGO sets with mindblowing functions, which this fits right into.
Perhaps a big LEGO PokeBall that unfolded and transformed into a Pokemon would be more up my alley.
Wait.... now I have to google if someone made a MOC of that xD
had to stop getting more Lego as serious space issues, but this one, will be getting for sure
