Hello there!
The great folks at Chase Bliss sent me their new pedal and in a few days I totally fell in love with it.
This thing is an incredible ambient machine: creating soundscapes with it is fun and rewarding.
Rather than doing a full review, I will create a soundscape from scratch, I think this is the best way to show why this is an amazing tool. All in the video is made in real time and no other post processing was added.
I will use it with Teenage Engineering OP1 and Strymon Nightsky.
Enjoy!
My monitors are Adam Audio S2v

Thank you so much
It is very appreciate that you take the time to answer
And very happy that you recommand those 2 ( Mood Mk2-nightsky )
My pleasure!
Best demo yet for this pedal. Nicely done!
Wow, thanks!
Hands down the best demo of habit. Gorgeous sounds 🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪
thanks!!
What a journey. So good, so chilled. The spontaneous and improvisational workflow really appeals. They are setting the bar high with this one. hands down best review can see why its your favourite, looking forward to hearing more of your experiments with it.
Thanks! I really enjoyed doing it!
This is an awesome demo, look forward to getting to grips with mine now 😁😁😁
Have fun!
Watching your video making music is like watching Bob Ross painting. Almost same thing. ❤
love that :)
Fantastic video! It was part of the inspiration for me to order one last night!
We used Blooper intensively on our St Tropez release. Quite often your demonstration here of Habit sounds almost like one of our sessions. Looking forward to exploring Habit. Thanks for your excellent demo. Always really great stuff!
I checked your music, amazing stuff!!!
@@OoraMusic thanks!
Well I think I found the perfect pedal for my cello. I was saving for blooper or mood, but I think habit is what I've been wanting.
I'd love to hear your experiments with this! Let me know if you ever post anything on your socials of it. I love hearing peoples tests with pedals with instruments not usually put through them.
Yes I think is great with instruments like cello or piano. Don't underestimate the combo Mood+habit, it really take you somewhere else. Will publish something soon.
Emily Hopkins has a great video where she routes her harp through Habit…awesome stuff FWIW
@@lordgeronimo72 She's ace! I watched it after Oora's video.
@@noahbarton2809 I might just do it!
This was the most well crafted and most informative pedal video I have watched. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Loved the review! Habit seems so inspiring in the rights hands.
thanks Alexandr
If I didn’t already have the blooper I would for sure buy this pedal
I guess they overlap a little, with blooper having more control and habit leading to happy accidents.
@@OoraMusic also. Your music is exactly what I like I’ve been doing similar things with just using a few pedals..stripping things down. Great times to make ambient music
Very cool and tempting. I’m still figuring out my Microcosm and T-Resonator. I wish I had more time to learn my gear. 😭
I never figured out the microcosm , just let him do whatever :D
thank you for making this video.
My pleasure!
Wish it were stereo
I hadn't realised. Damn.
Stupendo questo pedale, grazie per averci fatto un video così dettagliato.
Grazie Emilz!!
Wonderful layers of memories
:)
YESS!! Finally back in stock. Used your affiliate link, so hopefully you get the credit!
Yay! Thank you, really helpful :)
Very inspiring video. Thanks
thanks!
Good review... I'm stiil on the fence about getting Habit... I'm all about experimental journeys, but I hate having a lack of control to where I have to record everything... It's the same concerns I have with getting the uncontrollable Cosmos... Thanks for sharing your approach to it... 🙂
I just wanted to say that I've been loving your tutorials and performance videos as well. Your videos are inspiring, instructive, and just super relaxing. I think part of the relaxation is how calm and chill your voice is... you sound a little bit like one of my buds that is from Costa Rica, so I'm just curious whereabouts in the world are you from? 🙂
thanks mate!! I am Italian, and living in Italy at the moment.
I might get one of these some day. I have a Microcosm so I wasn't really paying much attention when this one released but it seems like that kind of pedal where you could just explore with it and find new things.
yes definitely. Great one to add to a collection!
Really nice video. I enjoyed this one the most, of all the Habit videos. And it gave me a clearer picture of how I would use it. Definitely interested in picking one up. Just got the Mood mk.II, partly on the back of your Mood video. And I absolutely love it. For me, might be one of the 'Things I Would Save From a Fire' instruments. Thinking of getting a Soma Cosmos, before a CB Habit though. Partly because something you feed a tiny bit of audio into, works better for me, when I mostly play guitar and that needs two hands - so the Cosmos flow probably works better for me. Generation Loss and Warped Vinyl seem cool too. Though, maybe I'll pick up a second-hand Shallow Water before. Though again the mono vs. stereo thing is slightly imperfect, but oh well.
thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hello, I've got a question about how to change the MIDI channel on my CBA pedals. I can't get it to work with Ableton.
I know that I have to unplug and plug in again while holding both switches and then send Program Change. But I don't know how that works in Ableton...
I have 4 CBA pedals and I would like them on different MIDI channels. But I can't figure it out..
I really hope you could help me out.
❤️
:)
Maaaaan, your soundscapes are so damn beautiful. Just 10 seconds of listening is bringing me to tears. Sooo good!
Also, this video is making it hard for me to decide what I should get as my first pedal. Polymoon? Echosystems? Habit?
... this definitely needs to be a track! ❤️
thanks mate! hard to say . the first pedal I had that really was super useful was the Strymon el capstan. Nowadays so many cool choices. Ambient: habit, microcosm, nightsky
Dubby stuff: Benidub Echo, empress echosystem
bread and butter: eventide space, anything Strymon and meris
Buy them all :D
@@OoraMusic “Buy them all!” … haha! Terrible, but also great advice! RIP my bank account. 😅
If I was a competitor creating a pedal “inspired” by the habit, I would name it what you called it…”Layers” or possibly W.O.S. (Wall of Sound) I bought mine last week, can’t wait to create some layers….
Have fun!!
this was special. While you are experimenting with the pedal what do you record to?
It was staring into the sound card
How are you approaching routing a stereo synth into a mono pedal? Any specific cable selection?
im just using a regular cable, not stereo. Never really cared about that :/
Mono for ambient is like square wheels for your car 😜
The OP-1 is kinda weird, all of the sounds are mono, but when you record onto the internal "tape" you can pan stuff and get stereo sound when you're listening to it, but if you export those tracks they're still just mono. If you're playing live like this, you really only need one channel of the output, then you can build stereo songs with it in your DAW or run it though stereo effects and stuff.
@@PostalDude667 problem is the ouput of the effect (pedal) should be stereo
@@FastRCToys Well you could run the output of the OP-1 to a 1/8" TRS to 2 1/4" TS splitter, then plug into TWO Chase Bliss Habits :)
Great video Fede, a nice different approach to the classical review/performance demo.
I'd like to know how do you compare the "playability" of this little jewel related to the Mood/Blooper and Microcosm. Could be a cool video to shoot indeed
thanks buddy, will probably do one soon
wow wow wow, first review to actually make it all click for me. Also, where can I get those op-1 patches? they are insane!
thanks!! check op1.fun for patches
@@OoraMusic ahhh just seeing this thank you! My Habit pedal came today!
Do you have any sound packs you made or use for your ambient sounds you could recommend? Love your stuff, thanks.
I have lot of ambient samples, some are available for my patrons.I only use sample I do myself, so I don't know any website ,sorry
Hello my friend, can’t thank you enough for the quality of all review you’ve done. please your advice; in order wich of these pedal should i get
Nigntsky, chase bliss ( mk2, habit, thermea ) thanks
I already have microcosm, bigsky, volente, timelime, mobius,
since you have a lot of pedal , I would go with chase bliss mood. Love nightsky too.
Apologies for a late comment and one that's off-topic, but could you tell me the name of the yellow patch cable to the left with the extra inputs? I can't for the life of me figure out how to phrase a google search for them.
it is a stackable tip top patch cable
I hate pedal reviews, I often end up spending a lot of money after watching them 😉
hahahaME TOO
I have a feeling I'm going to fall into this trap, too ... 😅
Why do they keep making these pedals in MONO?
hard to say, honestly its not a deal breaker, especially if you use a stereo pedal after them
@@OoraMusic Yes, that could help. Thanks
Love you brother, keep doing what you're doing.
To save money…
Mood mk.II is stereo, so I think they're ... listening ;) Wouldn't be surprised to see a stereo Blooper mk.II turn up at some point. Maybe a Habit mk.II later. But yes, agree, for that reason along, I couldn't choose this over a Soma Cosmos. Though they're different in execution and for what you'd use them for. The Cosmos is better for me too, because you can just play a fragment into it, move off that instrument, then grab control of Cosmos and Mood mk.II. That suits me better, since my main instrument is electric guitar. So need both hands free. Although, one nice advantage of Habit is MIDI / foot pedal control. Something sadly missing from Cosmos. Habit is a very cool sounding delay with a potential for a nice sparkly textured digital character. But, I have Polymoon, Rubberneck and other BBDs. A character reverb like Walrus Sloer interests me more than another delay. Cosmos leans harder in the infinite anti-looper direction than being capable of more conventional delay.
But that's mainly because my primary instrument is guitar, so I need something that I can play my instruments with two hands, have it take take, then put the instrument down and switch to working with that short source material on Cosmos/Mood/Polymoon. Though they're different in execution and for what you'd use them for. Cosmos leans harder in the infinite anti-looper direction than being capable of being a practical delay. Habit is very cool for processing live playing, where Cosmos, you thow in just a little bit of audio food, and it returns you back a bowl of swirling sound soup. You can play it Habit, and just have it ornament your playing in interesting ways; where that doesn't work so well with Cosmos.
Nice, also more Cat please
ahah will do!!
You can only have one chase bliss pedal for ambient music. Which would you choose and why?
right now definitely mood mk2
@@OoraMusichow about strymon night sky vs mood mk2?
hi! at 3:20 you say since you turned off the collect function, but don't you mean 'since you turned on the collect'?
yep! my bad
Do you use a stereo cable to go from op1 to habit ?
great demo btw !!
They put a morphagene in a pedal!
you are kinda right!!
is it stereo?
no is mono
Another synthfluencer, pedaling the wears for the masses to replicate
that's a lot of Responsibility for a country boy.
Haha, exactly!! Well said.
Not convinced by this pedal, sound is mono and not great. I have a mood from chase bliss and very disapointed: over priced for what it is… not top level and innovative like nightsky and microcosm.
respectfully disagree :)
But you cannot buy the damned thing.
HUMBUG!
That pedal sounds like it's broken. Don't like that effect at all. Sorry. But thank you very much for the demo. I know not to buy it.
Happy it was useful, in a way or another :D
