- Open source digital FPV is not dead!
EDIT - System evolves - Current video quality:
• 28km with DIY Digital ...
The original idea of the author of WiFi Broadcast was to build the setup on a widely available(cheap) hardware.
OpenHD took over the project and did a fantastic job, but unfortunately currently their solution runs only on Raspberry Pi, which now costs more than $100 a piece.
So...
Welcome OpenIPC.
This is an opensource operating system(Linux) for security cameras.
You install it on a cheap security cam module and turn the latter into a "small" PC.
You get H265 encoder and Sony sensor camera in a single unit for as low as $15.
OpenIPC team provides prebuilt versions for FPV, they come with Wfb-ng installed - this is the software which injects video from the cam into the WiFi module.
On the ground you can use an old laptop (mine is 9 years old).
You need Linux, wfn-ng and QOpenHD to overlay telemetry over the video.
Minimum setup(range about 1km)
Camera with Sony IMX307 sensor $20
Atheros 9271 WiFi adapter $3 * 2 pieces
Medium range setup(used in this video)
+1 WiFi adapter (to have a true diversity receiver)
2.4Ghz LNA Amplifier $3 * 2 pieces
2.4Ghz Power amplifer $15 (on the plane, 2W claimed, real power about 500mW)
Simple 5 element 6DBi Yagi antena * 2 pieces (DIY or about $4)
Plans to further range increase - 50km and more.
Switch to Circular Polarization. A DIY Helical antenna can easily give you 15DBi gain, which will more than double the range.
Install real 2Watt 2.4Ghz RF amplifier, cheap parts are available($11). An increase from 27dBm to 33dBm will double the range.
Use better, not the cheapest LNAs on the ground.
This video was encoded with Screen Recorder from a 1366x768 display.
Then was edited and reencoded by me and uploaded to youtube, which reencoded it again.
So quality was lost.
The raw video quality as it is received on the ground can be seen in these fragments:

Great! Any wiki or how to install the systems?
Is there a reason you only use 2.4ghz and not 5ghz? My RC ELRS is on 2.4ghz
Can you send link to the camera?
thanks for add setup
Man I live for 2W digital Long range..
"Atheros 9271 WiFi adapter $3 * 2 pieces " Where can I buy at this price?
Nice! For medium range, is Yagi antenna mounted both on the plane and GS ? What is the weight of all the FPV gear for the plane?
Yagi was on the ground only, on the plane there was a simple T-antenna. The whole system weighs less than 50grams: 20 grams for the cam, 5 grams for the wifi module, 15 grams for power amplifier+antenna and some wires&connectors.
Great video, any numbers about the latency? Could it be flyable on a FPV quadcopter?
160ms with my setup. Lower values are possible with higher FPS or reduced encoder compression, but I've never tested them since I fly planes only.
@@tipoman9317 please make a tutorial i want the 7km range on my plane so bad😭😭😭😭😭
@@petar8459 Sorry, forgot how to make 7km... My current setup reaches 28km 😃 ua-cam.com/video/lESVx8rLqSI/v-deo.html
only linux ? 😪
Hice project :). Any details on how to make it ?
I followed this tutorial with translator:

There is a recent video, you can use translated subtitles.
