Wild dude. I'm just getting ready to install my WIX 3 years after you made this video. I open the box and it's loose just like yours. Crazy. Off to buy a better filter.
I bought a K2500 6.2L diesel GMC brand new in 1984. I still use it as my livestock water truck. I credit the longevity to proper maintenance… especially the lube oil and fuel system. My newest truck is a 2009 one-ton Duramax. Nothing but Amsoil lube oil and I replace the fuel filter at every oil change. Not to mention that I always run Power Service fuel additive… winter and summer.
I bet that you will get more years of service out of the 84 only because of all that emissions on your 09. But yes good serving will go along way. Thank you for your comment.
John, love your videos, very informative and thank you! I changed my fuel filter as soon as I ordered a replacement Oem when I bought my duramax about a year ago, when I dumped out the contents into the pan, there was no water present but a noticeable amount of metal shavings, not large but about the size of cake icing sprinkles. It had 56,000 miles on it at the time, now it has approx 75,000 in which I have changed it out 3 times since then and has been perfectly clean without any trace of shavings. If this has a fuel pump In tank(?) my only guess it was from that? It is a 2005 LLY Duramax.
I have never seen any metal shaving in my fuel filter. It could be from your fuel pump but I would think that your pump would be toasted by now. Sound like you bought a good truck with low miles.
I bought 2 WIX filters years ago and after installing the first one I had air/fuel problems. Now seeing how easy they are put together I see why. Once that center piece loosens then the outer shell seal will leak. What genius came up with that idea? Well I'll stick with a metal can filter as it's a rolled seal to the outer shell.
Where does all that debris come from? I heard diesel fuel is dirty from the supply tanks but wouldn't filters on the pump at the station prevent that large of debris in the pan?
There's a lot easier way of doing this. It involves removing the 2 bolts that hold the fuel head to the motor. No need to remove the inner fender well. You do need to remove the air intake for easier access.
You are right. I was thinking it had a pump in the tank to supply the fuel filter a lift pump. I know it has the CP3 pump because I will dread that job. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching.
@@jasonnoe7931 Hi Jason, I also did my first one from the top. After I tore my arms up. I thought I would take the extra step. Thanks for your comment.

I am glad that you caught it! I can just imagine all the crap that would get by that filter and clog your fuel Injectors.

Nice Plug for PREMIUM GAURD 😎
No! I won't buy that one again. There is no water separator on it. Thanks for watching. Come back and make another visit.
Great video, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Project farm did a review on diesel filters. I stopped using WIX after I saw it.
Thanks, I will have to watch it.
Wix is the best

Sometimes I would think that it could come from the fuel handle and just little bit of dirt falling in?

Is that how you do it?
AC Delco or not at all.
I learned my lesson. Thanks for watching.
I see it was a 2007 you don’t have a fuel pump you have a injector pump that only works when you’re cranking it

Jon, stick with AC Delco filter’s!!!
That is good advice. Thank you, for watching.
I'll have a beer. Hard pass on the caffeinated sugar milk
No sugar.
That one you do form up top. No reason to pull the tire off and fender liner
Ok, Thanks.
So much easier done from below. I always do mine from below except the first time

WIX...... Crap! Expensive... Your buying the name....
I second the motion!
But the adapter and run a cat fuel filter. Much better filter
Thanks for the tip.
Use the AC Delco fuel filter and stop buying that junk. 30,000 miles proves the point.
thanks for the tip.
Nice job. Thanks 😊
No problem 😊
