It would be good to mention that most of the time, torque specs are given for a clean dry thread so when using anti seize it is very easy to over torque even with a torque wrench.

@@fixitjohn Well thinking of the things that weren't pointed out is easy after the fact. You did the hard part. Great video. You deserve the thanks.
After watching this video, I replaced the glow plug that was giving me the trouble code and I ran into a problem that I've run into on past replacements that I've done. This might help others when they are doing this project. Buy the nuts for the new glow plugs (they aren't included a lot of the time) and replacement electrical eyelets and heat shrink for the wire before starting the replacement job. Multiple times I have had the nuts rust onto the wire eyelet making them impossible to separate from each other. I've had to cut the eyelet to remove the nut and then reinstall a new eyelet on the wire.

I got p0675 code at 69,000 miles. I have a tight schedule, how long can I go until replacing it? Do you recommend doing all 8 at once or is it not necessary? It is my daily driver. Thank you 🙏

Not a big deal, let it go. I would wait until the weather warms up. At 69,000 thousand I would just replace that one. If you are at 125000 and 3 or 4 are not working then replace them all.

so the wire going to the tip with the thread; is it a ground or positive wire?

At 10:00 what is the Alltel unit you were speaking of?

It is a bi-directional diagnostic tool.

Is the scan tool for the obd have extra feature for the diesels? I just recently tried plugging in my scan tool into the port on my 2005 duramax and it didn't even register or interface. So I then wanted to make sure the scan tool operational and plugged the tool into my port on my 1999 Silverado 6.0 and it powered right up. I will mention the Duramax has an Edge tuner installed but how that's an issue is unknown. I wanted to see if there are any codes stored but unable to determine so had to resort to taking it to the shop in which I'm awaiting their diagnosis. The issue I'm having on the Duramax is a lil blue smoke, zero boost( which registers on the edge tuner display only not a factory gauge btw) and I was able to drive it to the shop but loss of power. No indication of noises like bad turbo, no dash warning lights, etc. Input? Thanks John!

      I don’t have a clue why it won’t interface.

The Autel has a lot of good features and is bi-directional. I don’t own one yet but for the money it is supposed to be good. Please let me know what you find out from the shop.

@@fixitjohnJohn, sorry for the delay, I was on vacation abroad while the truck was in the shop for five weeks! So they determined and installed a Oem Egr Valve and gaskets . That makes sense as how it was running. That was severely costly for the part in which it was claimed that only Oem was perhaps available for replacement. I support Oem choice surely.

@@fixitjohnI'm curious as to an install of an egr valve, is it just plug and play or is there any calibrations that need to be run after install, my paperwork does not reflect any notes in regards to it. I only now thought of after seeing videos of egr valve installation and seen some mention of codes, calibration, etc, I'm just not in the know, but concerned.

Hi Vince, it is plug and play. You may want to clear the old codes. But it can be a struggle getting it in bolted from the rear. Good luck and thank you for getting back.

Jeez, all you need is a regular old 12V test light, put the ground clip on a positive battery post and touch it’s probe to the center post on the glow plug just the same as all GM glow plugs since the old 6.2 diesels of the 80’s. If it lights up, the plug is good, if not, change it.
375K on the clock, just changed the 4th original plug to go bad. They last almost forever, unless you forget to let the glow plugs cycle completely off before starting the engine, doing that seems to make them go bad.

    • @fixitjohn

Hi Ralfie, that is true but don't forget to remove the wiring harness so we don,t damage the glow plug module. The glow plugs on the 07 are auto cycling they cycle on and off by them selves when you turn the key on. Thanks for watching.

Mine’s an ‘07 LBZ, when a plug fails, the plug light comes on, but never cycles off. Just read the code, it tells you which one is bad, then either test that one in the truck, or pull it and test it on the bench. Either way, you have to pull the wire off. I also have an ‘03 LB7 truck that belonged to my Dad. I’m not sure, but that one may have a bus bar tying all the glow plugs together instead of individual circuits like the later ones have.

i dont think you can start the truck trying to blow the soot and trash out of the glow plugs holes all at once. it would indeed have to be one by one. the truck wouldnt even start

Hi Mando, Thank you for subscribing to my channel. As far as the glow plug goes they are not like a spark plug that fires on the compression stroke. They merely are a heating element that heats incoming fuel and air to encourage efficient fuel combustion in a diesel engine. But yes they are needed for very cold startups and in some vehicles, they are turned on after startups to minimize smoke.
