I'm so glad I found your channel! It is slim pickings when it comes to OT related things on UA-cam. I am currently a sophomore in college and plan on going to grad school for OT so I am very excited to see your journey 🧡
This was so helpful girl!! Another thing I would add is look at the pre reqs NOW. My academic advisor told me that and so far I've made a list that I am happy with. I also saw that my school really aligned with the pre reqs OT schools are looking for. I just have to squeeze in the psychology classes and yeah :)
Thank you for sharing your experience!!!!! It’s great to hear other Pre-OT/OT stories! I applied to schools that did not require the GMAT or GRE. I chose an in-state school because my debt will be more at an out of state school. Both programs will make me an OT.
How do you describe the classes? For the master degree. Are they heavily reading or writing? Do you have to write a lot of essays? I am not good at math physics and chemistry, will occupation therapy degree be a challenge? Thank you
Sorry I wanted to also ask how long does it take on average for a master degree? 2 years? Can you take one or two classes a day and go slow? I'm looking into occupation therapist major with concentration in pediatric to help special need kids.
Hi! Thank you for your comments. This kind of masters degree has a lot of writing and reading. Math is involved as well as physics but not as much! And usually they're between 2-2.5 yrs long depending on the program. Hope this helps you :)
When you apply on the OTCAS everything is the same! If you fill out supplemental applications then it will be different! The OTCAS requires the personal statement! Hope this helps you 😊
I’m a junior(undergrad) my major is rehabilitation science and I needed this as well!! Did you apply to the program your junior or senior year? Also how many observation hours did you have? I wanted to start my hours this year but with all this coronavirus it’s impossible 😩
No problem, I'm glad it helped you! I applied when I was a senior and I applied with 84 hrs!! And don't lose hope, you can get hrs at so many different settings when they open again :)
I'm a Junior majoring in Rehabilitation Services at Southern University and A&M College!!!! I was wondering when did you start studying for the MAT and how soon should I take it.
I took my MAT without actually studying lol I just looked online to see what topics would be on it and then just scanned through some topics. I didn’t actually sit down and study for that test like I did for my boards. However, I did take it twice to see if I could get my score a little higher which I did. I also applied to programs that didn’t require those tests and some that did! So also think about that too! As far as when you should take it. I would say to look at your deadlines and make sure you take a few months before the deadline of when your applications are due. Hope this helps you! Good luck ☺️
Hey girl! Im currently a sophomore in undergrad at Temple University and plan on applying to grad schools for OT! It's such a coincidence you applied to all the grad schools I was thinking about and all the schools relatively near me. I would love to get in contact with you to get more tips and information about applying to grad school and OT grad school in general. Love your videos!
This video was so helpful, I’m currently a sophomore at Stockton, I would love to get in contact with you regarding on the prerequisites for OT school. Thank you so much.
Please don’t be scared! Graduate School in general is difficult to get into. However, it is something that challenges you as a person and makes you a better person! You grow so much and when you look back at everything you have done you are amazed by all of your accomplishments! If I went through it and many other people before me did as well, then you can do it too!! 😊
temple is actually my first choice !! 🥺 im at kean right now doing my undergrad but i’ve been looking at all the schools in Philadelphia that you mentioned because i’m dying to move out there. but girlllll i know Thomas jefferson is going to dubbbbb me too😂😂
When you said you had a 3.74 gpa and you thought that was bad for entering OT school then girl you should see my gpa😂😂it will make you feel 100x better. I’m not trying to say that I’m dumb or whatever but like school never came easy to me when growing up. I graduated high school a long while back and idk sometimes I get super depressed because I don’t even know what the point is in trying to make things like this work when nothing is going well. Idk if it’s just me. But I did go to a community college because your girl is poor AF😩😭and it saved me a ton of money. The downfall is that I did take a gap year after high school because I had TMS Surgery. I couldn’t eat literally anything except for liquid type foods like broth. So I did go back in the fall though and I wanted to be a RN and later on switch to get my BSN. But you’re probably thinking why did I stop..? Well I worked a part time job at the time and my hours and my studies were becoming way to much and I had to make the tough decision to leave school after 1 year I think. But the adviser that was setting up my classes had told me there was no way I could just automatically get into nursing school like at a click of a button. I had to take all of these core classes like you were talking about and I just hated it. Like I didn’t come to school to be there for a decade just to get one degree if you get what I’m saying. It’s really upsetting because I personally don’t believe in competition because it could hurt another person and make them feel like they aren’t worth anything. These advisers and professors that do this type of crap will say it’s great competition. But if it was so great why is it when a person fails then they feel like a complete failure because someone else was way more better or smarter than them. It really makes me sad. I watched this one girls video about her nursing journey so far and she was describing how she was having a difficult time with school and her gpa was pretty much low. But she said how she was able to still get in a school and they told her she would have to work on her gpa and what not. But she did and idk if she’s finished with nursing school but I just don’t know if that’ll happen to those who even want it so bad. I get very discouraged as you can tell😞I know I’m not stupid but at school those people that say my gpa is to low or I’m not making great grades. Like I feel like screaming at them and saying, well I’m doing the best that I can and at least I’m trying that’s better than just giving up. I mean they act like I just don’t do my part like I do but I also get anxious when it comes to test taking because I know that I doubt myself and a lot of that had to do with my childhood. I’m happy for those that got into nursing school or OT school but I’m sad because I wish I was there as well😣any advice on how to get my gpa up if I go back to school? What about those that struggle with test taking what would you say would be best..? Did you make any study guides yourself or notes that you took? Can you (if you have time) show how you did it and how it helped you out..? I’m sorry this is such a long comment. But thank you for this video it really did help and I found it very informative☺️
Hi Lindsey! It’s nice to meet you! Wow, I’m so sorry you have had a hard time with schooling. I know that it is not easy for anyone! Thank you for sharing so much about yourself. Some advice to get your GPA up is to retake the courses that you didn’t do so well in that are pre-reqs for nursing or OT school to give you a better chance. You can also take extra courses on the side that are easy to boost your GPA that don’t really go with your major! As far as studying and how I take my notes, i will be making a video all about that so stay tuned! And as far as some tips for people who struggle with test taking, i would say to find ways to calm yourself and your anxiety. I tend to meditate now and do yoga which has helped me clear my mind before I test! I started making that apart of my morning routine! Everyone handles their anxious ways differently but this is what works for me! I wish you the best of luck with everything and please don’t ever let anyone try to discourage you from chasing your dreams! You are in control of your decisions not them! Have a great day 😊
Great vid! So informational. I have a question. Would you say an overall GPA of 3.2 is too low to get into grad school? I have a 3.8 prerequisite GPA. I'm trying to compensate with my essay and other experience in healthcare.
Hey girl! I would say that having a higher prerequisite GPA will definitely help you! And as far as a 3.2 overall gpa I would say it depends on the program you are applying to! So pay attention to your programs GPAs!
I want to get into UNC’s OT grad school! I’m hopefully going to transfer as a junior to UNC for undergrad and i’m looking to double major with exercise science major and psych and minor in cognitive science :) or maybe major in exercise science and minor in psych!
Thank you ✨ do you have the excel spread sheet we can look at ?
Thank you for your comment! I don't have an excel sheet but I will look into making one!
Love this content!!!!! Thank you for the tips!!
Wow another black OT UA-camr!!! Keep up the good work. I look up to you guys! I’m applying for the 2020-2021 cycle

Thank you so much for your support!! Good luck on your journey 💕😊
I’m a bit discourage because my gpa is a 3.1
Same :( Its the only thing about my application that I'm terrified about
Don't be discouraged! I would just try to make your application well rounded! Grades aren't the only thing schools look at!
This was so helpful girl!! Another thing I would add is look at the pre reqs NOW. My academic advisor told me that and so far I've made a list that I am happy with. Do we need to be in the Health Science program to go to an OT school ? Can we be in the Social Science
programs *
No you don’t have to be at all! But it is helpful to do health science!
