The Indianapolis 500 is the best race in the world! If you go next year, any seat is great; however, the infield is an amazing place to party, especially Turn 3!
Back in the days when F1 drivers had balls, the Indy 500 was considered one of the ultimate prizes in motorsports even in their eyes. Hell, it was even part of the F1 world championship for awhile. Too bad precious Schumi and his prima donna ways came and washed all that away. Too bad for them, not us.
The second race I ever went too! Man I want to go back. Watching them come out of turn 4 down the straight was surreal. What was more surreal-er was watching them going into turn 1 and looking at the car from above.
You're referring to the 2005 US GP and in all fairness, it wasn't the drivers or the teams who were "too dumb to bring the right tires", it was Michelin Tire company and they freely admitted they screwed up with the tires. The teams that used Michelin tires weren't "cowardly" at all, rather it was a safety issue, plain and simple. Google "2005 US Grand Prix and read the Wiki entry. It gives a fairly comprehensive account. Michelin even paid to refund every single ticket holder for that event
IRL & F1 are both great sports.....The difference is that IRL is good for the fans, and F1 is good for the race team. There is also more competition in IRL because F1 is all about the car, IRL is all about the driver.
NBC Sports Network has given IRL a lot of love so it wouldn't surprise me that when ABC (ESPN on ABC) contract expires with the Indy 500, NBC will get it. NBC will pay a lot to get NASCAR too.
I respectfully disagree, but you have a good point. In the end, we're talking about 2 very different sports; comparing F1 to NASCAR is like comparing soccer to Amer. football. Passing in NASCAR is like touchdowns in Amer. football; we like the scoring and the action, and to us it's much more exciting watching 3-wide racing or many different drivers leading.
since who i wanted to win wrecked in the first 11 seconds, i was really rooting for TK, but since HE wrecked, i had to root for helio. that was a great race though. TK was on fire where i was sitting.
In 2009 it honestly looked like Helio would have to serve some time. Glad he didn't and if there were any serious negative views on the man they ended with this win
u won't believe it but i've watched f1 since i was 2 years old and i always used to shout Schumacher everywhere. it's my ambition to become one as i love speed and most importantly Senna
f1 is amazing, and let's hope for a great race tomorrow but i reckon the new fota series would be equal #1 or a even #1 with all but 2 teams leaving the fia series. a shame though. but the good thing is there'd finally be a pinacle motorsport that listens to it's fans. rally, dakar and lemans 24 are equal 3rd for me. and great pick for motogp being up there with f1 :)
@JVhapu yep i fully agree with you on that. you just can't find thrilling races anymore and that is where my dream begins. i want to be an f1 driver and am in karting. i will do whatever i can to realise this so please wish me luck
Congratulations Helio ! ; D Castroneves has signed his name with others race legends ! Let's wait another win in more five years of contract, with Team Penske !
F1 fans, please take it easy this is not the most exciting race in indycar its just the most famous and i hope scheckter gets a ride for the rest of this year, going 26th to 12th is crazy.
I remember this race, it got a little boreing after the 3rd crash, all the yellow flag was a drag, other than that, it was a great race! And a cool one here in Indiana.
F1 is great. Technical courses, lots of technology and time management... but the passes are few and far between. Indy is fun too. A bit more speed, and more passing... I like 'em both, but I prefer F1.
I still don't uderstand the point of racing on an oval. Even watching 10minutes of highlights is boring when all they do is go in circles.... Are all 4 corners identical or are there slight variations?
@agent866 in F1 there are hardly ANY overtakes, they just go around the track really fast behind each other and finish in, pretty much, THE SAME ORDER AS THEY WERE IN LAP ONE. Oh, and go see all the IndyCar tracks, not just circles.
Regarding ESPN losing IndyCar to Versus....we have the best of all options. NOT Versus but sure as hell not ESPN. They may filter the ABC coverage but believe me, there is a stark difference when a race is run on an ESPN-tag channel. They hurry the broadcast and butcher coverage with commercials ad-infinitum. I'm so very glad that a mix of NBC and ABC will carry IndyCar this year and am ultra-excited for the start this weekend!!
Helio is the best. Congrats and welcome to the 3 time winners club. I hope he makes it 4 or more. There seems to be a real F1 v. IRL dialogue here. I am just glad to have something really cool to watch since Nascar has gotten to be such a joke. Anyone else feel that Nascar has lost touch with their fans?
Blame the ground effect limits imposed by the regs... cars break loose all the time without much warning. They are so far on the edge that when it goes, it goes. They weigh a lot, and once you start lateral motion, that's pretty much it.
what's with the noobs comparing the two ? i'm a big f1 fan to the core, and i am also a mechanical engineer with an automotive submajor and i have massive respect for indy and oval racing. Turning in at such high speeds with the comprimise of having relatively low downforce settings requires ALOT of skill, one wrong twitch or get too close and lose front end grip or planting the throttle a little too early etc. will get you straight into the wall. no gravel traps here my friend.
I've seen F1 races (one time live at monaco when I was 14 years old) and I like F1 more then indy 500 but you missed my point. They drive faster in indy 500 thats a fact, but it dosn't mean I disslike F1 now right? I didn't ask what you though about F1 either, I just said that indy cars drive at higher speed in their laps.
Of course average speed isn't everything, but its exciting. I've been to IRL races and let me tell you, seeing cars whip past you going that fast gives you goosebumps. And don't ever say it's not a challenge. The slightest error at that speed = disaster. I respect F1 just as much as IRL but for different reasons. This is simply a different kind of racing. Learn, then comment.
I'm not sure who you're responding to, but driving a NASCAR vehicle is much more difficult than an F-1, because NASCAR is not as technologically-advanced -- virtually nothing on the NASCAR cars is computerized, and the cars are much heavier than F-1 cars. Any NASCAR track has 3 or 4 possible lines to take on each turn (as opposed to the single-file F1 lines) which require very frequent shift/brake -- with the feet and stickshift, not with the thumb paddles that F1 uses.
if US F1 dont score a point next year it will be because of the car...cause thats what F1 is all about. So your bet has no point and doesnot prove Indy drivers are bad. Example: Jenson scored 3 points in 08 and has won 5/6 races this year...so u cant judge a driver in F1 as its all about the car...
@yellowbelly70 I can asure you that the turbos will not come back atleast for 10 years if nor more. They were removed due to safety, because with turbo there would be unimaginable speed and the sport would become too dangerous for everybody
12 years later he wins his 4th
@Kendall Collins better start now then eh
HE JUST DID IT AGAIN TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Helio Castroneves... awesome driving... representing well my country!
12 anos dps...
Congrats! That picture of Helio & Mario, Post Win is Priceless!
Grandes momentos do Brasil! Valeu Hélio!
I'll never forget this day, it was the first time I ever came across Indycar. I was an instant fan after this race.
Helio so much deserves this win after the personal drama he's been thru. This guy's a true winner.
Vlw Hélio Castroneves, que nostalgia rever isso novamente. Incrível 👏👏👏
the art is in the details. the more you learn the landscape widens
@2:48 Man , it almost crazy to me now remembering that there was a time when Ryan Hunter-Reay's career was struggling.
Felipe Andreolli was right over there near to the finish line when Castroneves won the race, he screamed out loud.
The Brazilians pilots rocks!
Miss that red and white livery
The Indianapolis 500 is the best race in the world!
If you go next year, any seat is great; however, the infield is an amazing place to party, especially Turn 3!
Best&fastest Brazilian driver ever. Thanks Helio! Forever you
E em 2021,, Hélio Castroneves vence novamente as 500 milhas de Indianápolis. Helinho, grande piloto muito respeitado lá fora !!
Boy I really missed Indy.....that footage was excelent!!
800 horse power and extremely light making an unstoppable combination
Make it 4 this year Helio!
ITS HAPPENED NOW
@@beanman4531 OMG I’m not the only watching these videos!!! Were you there ?!
@@gilliesworld4713 I sat in Turn 3
@@beanman4531
I am so happy!
FERA, FERA, FERA.
GO FOR THE 5TH TITLE YOU DESERVE IT🤗
Back in the days when F1 drivers had balls, the Indy 500 was considered one of the ultimate prizes in motorsports even in their eyes. Hell, it was even part of the F1 world championship for awhile. Too bad precious Schumi and his prima donna ways came and washed all that away. Too bad for them, not us.
Danica is 4th in the championship standing as of right now.
Can't wait for Texas next week.
The second race I ever went too! Man I want to go back. Watching them come out of turn 4 down the straight was surreal. What was more surreal-er was watching them going into turn 1 and looking at the car from above.
We saw it four times, hopefully we get to see the Spiderman climbing the fence again and do what no other has done
Who else is here after he won his fourth title 😁
Great Brazilian driver! Helinho Congratulations!
We Brazilians have admiration for you!
The Indianapolis 500 and the IndyCar Series are awesome!

Indianapolis 500 is a very exciting race, by far the best!
GTRF1V8, you've just made the most intelligent comment on this entire board.
Helio rocks! =)
i WAS at this race. it was amazing
Why do people compare this to F1? Thats stupid. The difference in engineering and driving skill needed to compete in this, and f1 is extremely big.
Dude Indianapolis is the most famous track in the world. Let us not forget F1 racing here not to long ago.
Unlike F-1, the cars in IRL and NASCAR are actually capable of passing each other
12 years later, Helio Castroneves joined the 4-time Indy 500 winner's club!
I agree... it's a very good answer!
@GTRF1V8 well put My friend...although I'm an open wheel fan and have raced go-karts on a competitive level I find your view refreshing.
f1 is amazing,
and let's hope for a great race tomorrow

Congratulations Helio ! ; D

it was nice : ) , but there is nothing greater than F1 in my opinion : D
1- F1
2- MotoGP
3- Rally (including dakar!)
Thanks for sharing this :-)
@GTRF1V8 i'm not a big nascar fan but its gotta take the most endurance, to sit in a nascar for 4 hours in the heat ,during cautions ,no ac
and then, on May 30th, 2021…
This was such an exciting race. I remember being so disappointed with how it went for Ryan Briscoe.
F1 fans, please take it easy this is not the most exciting race in indycar its just the most famous

F1 should run the oval layout.
how much hp has the indycars?
@JVhapu thanks a million

@yellowbelly70 but they banned turbos in 2011 formula rule say on it cause too fast but it give save gas like use in street cars and production cars.
i get to go to the texas race in a few weeks

Helio likely wanted a turbocharged engine in this race.
Good luck TK!!!!!!!!!
Street circuits like Monaco are an expection. I dunno why they decided to add singapore and valencia too.
helio eh FODA
orgulho de ser brasileiro!

Sounds like you just successfully refuted the first statement with the question that followed!
;-D
This indeed the greatest spectacle in racing....better that the boring monaco gp....
No. Indy is the greatest spectacle in racing.
