I cannot wait until I move back to my hometown and I was born in Indianapolis but not raised and I've always wanted to see the Indy 500 im so excited im moving back
The first Indy 500 I watched and one of the greatest races I ever saw. I´m loving Formula 1 but this is the real racing and the spirit Formula 1 used to have! Sato raced in a great way, I really hoped he would end up on the podium. Racing from nearly last to first within 100 laps is a stunning performance by Franchitti - and his interview crying remembering Dan Wheldon made me nearly cry too.
I had a Brit who lives in Indy sitting behind me. He happily reminded us of that fact after the race was over! LOL He was a cool guy, like most Brits was very keen on racing.
It was a heck of a ballsy move for him-a shame it didn't pay off. I have to wonder, the way the draft was working that day, if he would have been able to hold the lead through the ensuing final lap, though. If he had made this move in turn 3 instead of turn 1 and pulled it off, he might be having his likeness made for the Borg-Warner right now.
...These IndyCars were built by Dallara in Italy. And now Dallara has a production facility two blocks from turn 1 at Indy where IndyCars will be built.
Absolutely correct. Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of England as well as the Queen of Scotland (and of Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc etc). Turning back to motor racing, Dario Franchitti is definitely up there with Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton as being currently the best drivers from the UK to compete at an international level. British motor racing is in a good place at the moment!
As a matter of fact I did. I said that the car industry these days rely on international cooperation. If Dallara pulled out then there are plenty of industries that can take the place.
No because you've stated in previous comments that Ferraris are completely Italian engineered when in fact they are not, and that was the point I was making.
O know Dario personally and he's one of the finest drivers I've ever met. His knowledge of the race and all there is to do with it is absolutely enlightening to hear. Not any normal human being is capable of racing at those speeds year after year and on top of that WIN! All indy racers are amazing, but he sets a really high standard hard to match. Once again, well done Dario.
Was really rooting for Sato to pull it out, but he will get his day. TK too. I was in turn 4 and I have to say that I adjust a little tired of the Target guys always winning, but I think other teams are getting closer. Just a matter of time. Great race nonetheless. RIP DW
Okay, just looked at the Indycar schedule... where I'm at on the globe I'm lucky enough to see a couple of races on TV, and the ones I do see always involve oval tracks. The more you know, huh?
They talked to Barnhart about that after the race last year and he held off on throwing the yellow because you cannot benefit from a caution you caused. Not to mention the fact that it wasn't certain JR was going to cross the line. So if you freeze the field there what happens? JR was up against the wall and not in the racing line, Sato was, which was why the yellow was thrown.
Blocking is placing one's car directly in the path of another to impede its progress. What Franchitti did was run a defensive line -- which is now perfectly legal, by the way. Then, he merely held his ground on the outside. He gave Sato a lane, and that's all that was required of him. There was no cheating there. Furthermore, the fact that you actually expect Franchitti to make it easy for another driver to pass him on the last lap of the Indy 500 demonstrates your clear bias against him.
As Ayton Senna once said... if you no longer go for a gap your no longer a racing driver. Sato went for the gap on the last lap of the Indy 500, it didn't pay off but good on him for having a go. What you expect Dario to just move over and let him have it..... pfffttt yeah right!!!
There's a video from another angle of the incident with Sato and Dario. Dario did nothing wrong. Taking a defensive line like that on the last lap of the Indy 500 is something all drivers would do under the same situation.
Sato is the same driver he was in F1. His being too aggressive in his overtakes usually results in his crashing out of the race. Don't blame Dario for Sato just doing what he usually does. Just lucky that Sato's crash didn't take out the usual 3 other cars.
Are you high? Franchitti held his line and left enough room to account for the width of Sato's car. On the last lap of the race, that's all he's required to do. It's not Franchitti's job to give Sato the room to COMFORTABLY make the pass; that's not how racing works. When Sato made the move, there was an extremely limited amount of space available. If that wasn't enough for him to work with, he shouldn't have MADE the move. It's that simple. Franchitti did exactly what he was supposed to do.
The rear engine race car was introduced to F1 by Sir Jack Brabham in 1957. F1 was still considered a primitive series at the time. In that day Sports Car Racing was considered king and the 24 Hours of Lemans the ultimate race. The rear engine car was slow to catch on in F1 and Brabham took the design to the Indy 500 in 1961. Indycar adapted to the new design much quicker although diehards like Jim Hurtibise will tell you otherwise. AOWR to to the format quicker than F1. No ripoff was involved,
Not a Dario fan, but he did nothing wrong. He defended his line once on the straight and gave a good amount of room in turn 1. It was a racing accident IMO. Kudos to Taku for going for it. Great Race!
No, it's NOT. It looked fine on ABC HD. For years now, Indycar's UA-cam channel has had problems with their video editing. First, it was a failure to de-interlace the original 60i video, resulting in the "comb" effect during motion, and now it's this excessive aliasing.
The cars get unstable below the white line, too much banking and the turning radius becomes too sharp. Franchitti left only enough room to go down there, where he knew it would force a spin.
After getting a glimpse of the F1 life (via UA-cam and games), I think of the IRL as a bridge between Nascar and Formula One. It introduces the Western audience to open wheel racing, but keeps it simple by going around an oval, instead of a road course. I guess Westerners prefer speed over technical driving.
This was the best race of the year it didn't need a fight or some dumb ass tweeting during a red flag they actually raced each other, the only bummer was not finishing the final lap. Can't wait for them to come to pocono that will be the best race their this year, with the new cars
Gotta love Sato...But if you watch this carefully, Nothing Dario did wrong here...These cars seem to be aero-unstable in a number of close situations...Indy Car needs to take another look at this design...
Well then what was your point? Of course it's going to look terrible on the SD channel, but what's posted here is supposed to be in HD, therefore there's no excuse for it to look this bad. It appears as if it's been transcoded with the wrong settings, which, as I said before, has been a problem on this channel for quite a while.
How in the world could Foyt Racing send Mike out with the broken front wing, jeopardizing everybodys safety? That was so irresponsible, they should be kicked out of the series! Congrats to Dario though and welcome to the 3 time winners club. Although it pains me to see TK being in the mix again and again falling short. I would have loved seeing his face next to Dan's on the Borg Warner. Also feeling with Bobby, Taku and Dave as they had a really good shot again.
I'm guessing the opportunity never came about. If he's currently successful in Indy Car, why change I guess?? Funnily enough, Paul di Resta is the cousin of Dario though.
Amazing the level of idiocy, hatred, and sheer ignorance I see in comments about racing. Likely by those who have NEVER seen it from between the mirrors.
sorry mates ! Tee-esse mistake. he couldn't make it through without touchin' Dee-ayf ! he had enough room. so he would better hae stayed behind. in the last lap, Dee-ayf had the right to wave in the straight to keep advantage. that's antediluvian race gentlemen agreement. everybody agrees
It was a kamikaze move (Sato's style).... I hoped Takuma became the first japanese to win the indy 500...Unfotunately he is still more kamikaze than samurai :(
And now Takuma Sato is a 2-time Indianapolis 500 champion
I remember myself screaming at Sato like: what the hell are you doing! You should have waited idiot! My god, my heart was in my mouth.. what a race
Was at this race. Will never forget.
+Wayne Jones It was the first Indy 500 I ever watched (on TV in Germany, though). I will never forget this race either.
Sato 5 year later gets it :)
この時の佐藤琢磨選手のガッツには心打たれた。感動しました。最後まで諦めないガッツは流石ノーアタックノーチャンスですよ!
それにしてもあのチップガナッシの二人にレイホールについてった。すごい!すごすぎる!
I cannot wait until I move back to my hometown and I was born in Indianapolis but not raised and I've always wanted to see the Indy 500 im so excited im moving back
I became a Sato fan after this race, I was really hoping he'd win.
NRAgunnut1993 and he did it.
instaBlaster...
I had the exact same experience. I was ecstatic when he won
OH THIS WAS AN AWESOME INDY 500 RIP DW
Franchitti became a 3 time champion of his career before retiring he Dixon and Kannan are Weldon's closest colleagues🏁🏎
The first Indy 500 I watched and one of the greatest races I ever saw.
I´m loving Formula 1 but this is the real racing and the spirit Formula 1 used to have!

epic race. Rubinho rookie of Indy 2012!
The last few laps just get my adrenaline pumping!!
Excellent footoage of this incredible race. Thank you so much for the upload!!
I had a Brit who lives in Indy sitting behind me. He happily reminded us of that fact after the race was over! LOL He was a cool guy, like most Brits was very keen on racing.
Corridaça! Tony Kanaan fez uma excelente corrida!
Great race! Tony Kanaan made an excelent race!
what a race, very exciting
2017 Win ! Takuma Sato!
Sato is one that gave everything he had. Dario... that's all that Chip said.
GUTS ! Satou Takuma ! I Love Your Racing Sprits!

Who's ready for the 500 this time around
tony kanaan drove an agressive race. i like that
Viva a Indy 500... Viva a Formula Indy!!!!!
Indycars where racing at this track before NASCAR was even a thought.
Poor Sato, he got screwed by Hunter Reay at Long Beach and now again by Franchitti at Indy, I hope he wins a race, Team Rahal is strong once again.
Blocking is placing one's car directly in the path of another to impede its progress. What Franchitti did was run a defensive line -- which is now perfectly legal, by the way. 200 laps ! ! ! !
Unbelievable !!!
NO! Sato's was my fav in F1! I missed the race and this was my first time watching. );
How was it your first time watching if you missed it?
It was hotter than death valley this day
Scoop Johnson no this year it was
When there is a crash the drivers are not allowed to pass for position. You are right, they slowed, but they were required to keep their position.
As Ayton Senna once said... if you no longer go for a gap your no longer a racing driver. Sato went for the gap on the last lap of the Indy 500, it didn't pay off but good on him for having a go. What you expect Dario to just move over and let him have it..... pfffttt yeah right!!!
There were flowers there in the 90s, and after a few years' hiatus were brought back last year. Not sure why they were put there.
琢磨すごい!!
残念だったけど、チャレンジャーとしてよくやった。次に期待。
We Brits do like our motor racing. It's one of the few sports that we are actually good at!
There's a video from another angle of the incident with Sato and Dario. Dario did nothing wrong. Taking a defensive line like that on the last lap of the Indy 500 is something all drivers would do under the same situation.
Sato!!!
Good point, can't say I know who exactly is behind the design and build, I'd guess they're mostly Italians, but who knows.
i should have watched this rather than the f1. that last lap was better than the whole monaco gp
Sato is the same driver he was in F1. His being too aggressive in his overtakes usually results in his crashing out of the race. Don't blame Dario for Sato just doing what he usually does. Just lucky that Sato's crash didn't take out the usual 3 other cars.

Don’t worry all Indy cars are built in the UK just like the best F1 cars, the UK can take full credit for them as well
GOD DAMN IT I WAS RIGHT THERE WHEN SATO CRASHED ;_;. We really were pulling for TK, Ed, or Sato. Oh well good race.
Dario was forcing Sato to lift off the throttle going into 1. Sato was pushing it hard all race long and I'm sure he was anxious to get by Dario.
i agree. the stewards turned a blind i too, to the incident.
Totally random comment alert: James Hinchcliffe is a boss.
Why did all the yellows come out? I dont get it? You just cut to a restart?

So how much money does the winner get today.
Looking for the purse pay out on the top 10
Indy 500 2012 Highlights as the Pogo the dog
The suspension of the Ferrari 458 uses the magnetic suspension built by GM for the Corvette ZR1 and the Cadillac V cars.
The cars get unstable below the white line, too much banking and the turning radius becomes too sharp. Franchitti left only enough room to go down there, where he knew it would force a spin.
Ha Ha a fine response.
Still a fair move by Franchitti though.
Shuggy
glad to see ashley judd can count -____-
By saying an Indy is a rip-off F1 car is basically saying every open-wheel car is a rip-off F1.
Indycar also goes around circuits and road courses. They do both. And I like that.
Wow, amazing crash
You don't understand how difficult this car is to drive.
Adrian Newey, Christian Horner. But yes you are right
This was the best race of the year it didn't need a fight or some dumb ass tweeting during a red flag they actually raced each other, the only bummer was not finishing the final lap. Can't wait for them to come to pocono that will be the best race their this year, with the new cars
Best Indy car race in a longgg time. Deffinetly need more ovals. Even if it has to be flat ovals.
full race please..??
Gotta love Sato...But if you watch this carefully, Nothing Dario did wrong here...These cars seem to be aero-unstable in a number of close situations...Indy Car needs to take another look at this design...
I was there. Target Chip Ganssi has won too many times. It's someone else's turn.
indy cars rule!!!
Those cars = all, except Formula Indy
There will probably be someone uploading it somewhere i'm sure.

Poor Takuma. so close!
woulda been a lot better video if the commentators weren't screaming the entire time
Red Bull are built in Milton Keynes, England
Yes, same guy.
How early did Dirty Dario turn into turn 1? And how long until an IndyCar official realises how dirty he is?
wow ashley judd knows how to count to three! 16:32
...solo me permiten subir un máximo de 15 minutos, como lo logras ?,muy bueno
and yet the haters blocked that part out

Really wanted Sato to win :(
And he did it!! :D
@brournemouth Caution was out. You must maintain your position.
"But what do the Italians they no about making cars anyway?" ahah.
dario is stopped in all saison for long time.
"Angies Lips"
I'm guessing the opportunity never came about. If he's currently successful in Indy Car, why change I guess?? Funnily enough, Paul di Resta is the cousin of Dario though.

wheldon is not in her history?
Unfortunately we'll never see F1 on an oval. The cars are not constructed for that.
Dan and Dario were two great friends. I doubt Dan would like it if you were using him to insult his friend.
It was a kamikaze move (Sato's style).... I hoped Takuma became the first japanese to win the indy 500...Unfotunately he is still more kamikaze than samurai :(
