The difference between the boring Monaco GP and the insane Indy 500 was more evident this year than ever.

Monaco is actually such a bad race, it is unreal
The only thing Monaco has going is history and tradition. Indy has both of those and you’re guaranteed great action, battles and drama.
Monaco race was extremely boring this year. The F1 cars cannot pass at Monaco the track is to small.
Yeah, the current F1 cars are pointless to race at Monaco. It's basically a qualifying race.

@@fredro851I was sitting in Turn 3 too. Section 26 row LL. I got a perfect shot of the last lap pass, right by us! It was awesome.

The last 25 laps were wild, sensational racing
Everyone was struggling on the outside line, except Newgarden…he was destroying everyone through that outside lane. He had insane grip with that #2. That last pass on the outside for the win on Pato was out of this world.
That last lap pass was Grade A Big Balls Move of the Year.
For 50 years I've watched this race and can't recall anyone passing on the outside- all day- like Newgarden. Perhaps the combo of a heavy rain to wash the track but not strip off the rubber, the sweeper vacuum during multiple yellows, and track temperature contributed but it takes giant stones to drive where he did.

So glad and happy I was able to attend this absolute piece of cinema. Rossi made so many insane moves,like I nearly went into cardiac a few times cause of him.
Sting Ray Robb. I witnessed STING RAY ROBB lead multiple laps under green in person. Thats a once in a lifetime moment.

Now this is what i call an Indy 500.
I'm an F1 fan and have never properly watched an Indycar race. I watched the Monaco GP beforehand and it was dreadful. This- one of the best motorsport races I've ever watched. Consider me an Indycar fan.

I surprised someone can be a F1 fan. Maybe because of the engineering, but Indy car is just do much better.

i woke up at 5 am, and sat at the track soaked for almost 8 hours, and i would totally do it again.
I wanted O'Ward to win so badly, but that said that race absolutely incredible. Well worth the wait.

I’m a nascar fan and I’m filled with envy when I listen to an Indy broadcast. Absolutely phenomenal in the booth. This product was electrifying. I cannot stop watching those final 2 laps. It feels like the most important thing in the world, and I’m so angry at myself for not catching it live.
Leigh Diffey is the absolute best play by play guy. Aussies make everything sound so exciting.
Meantime, Mike Joy and Clint Bowyer make everything sound so boring, dull, and downright unbearable to listen in NASCAR

I think Larson had a good chance till he had the pit road speeding issue.. maybe next time!
they penalized Larson, but left Dixon Scott free... tough for Larson
@@josephrupsis4623 personally I agree with Dixon not getting a penalty. He didn't move and Ryan just ran into him in my opinion
@@josephrupsis4623 Larsons penalty is completely objective though. Dixon comes down to a judgment.
Agreed. He had corrected his issue on the restart earlier in the race and was definitely moving up the field. I hope he comes back next year and tries the H1100 again.
Final lap was an adrenaline rush really thought Scott was gonna take this one his pace was phenomenal
This was my first indy 500 and sitting at turn 1 was amazing, so much action

My first time seeing the Indy 500 in person and we sat in SWV 18 at the exit of turn one. Nearly all the crashes/cautions occurred near this part of the track.
First time as well I sat at the tower terrace section, could see the first straight and the start/finish and a little of the end of turn 4
Easily one of the best 500’s I’ve ever seen. Newgarden’s pass on the outside of turn 3 reminded me of Rick Mears in 91. Full send at over 230 mph and he came out on top. What a drive.
And I, at the time in the stands, thought about 1989 Fittipaldi/Little Al…
He had the grip, even though he passed on the outside O'Ward ended up going WAY higher up the bank on the exit, just didn't have that kind of grip. Newgarden is amazing on that circuit.

An entire 500 mile race came down to two lead changes in the last second.
My first Indy 500, in person. What a race! The atmosphere was insane, the last 20 laps, especially towards the end of the race!
I only got into Indy a few years ago, but I can't imagine many better races than this. Absolutely incredible, though I really hope Pato gets his one of these years.
That Newgarden final lap move and win is written in history. Fantastic 👌👌👌

@@DebbiSmithDC Either that or actually saw it. The F2 race was good, but the F1 cars just cannot race there the way they're built now. Definitely think they ought to take notes.
The race was amazing. But holy crap, more series need commentary as energetic as this. That absolutely made this race.
Well, when the racing is great, you get great commentary. If not, well.....
Leigh Diffey, Townsend Bell and James Hinchcliffe are an awesome trio.
Problem is when crofty does it f1 (for example) people whine abt it saying hes way too annoying and hes too loud.aybe energetic commentators is an american thing.
Meantime in NASCAR, Mike Joy has gone stale, Kevin Harvick is a bit too "Gen Z" for most folks' tastes, and Clint Bowyer is an embarrassment to the booth

It's tough because in practice, you don't get the simulation of race-day conditions(especially on the start) when going slower in turbulent dirty air. Sucks for Blomqvist, I like watching him in IMSA. But even moreso for Ericsson
Let’s hope Pato O’ward can finally achieve the Borg-Warner Trophy next year.
Maybe he'll end up like Dale Earnhardt Sr. Where it took him a long time to finally win the Daytona 500.

O'Ward is showing improvement every year and there's only one outcome to him improving for next year: A win.
It took Newgarden quite a few years to get his first, so have patience, O'Ward's 500 victory will happen.
Next year it will be Sato, not Pato.
The last 20 laps were insane, the field at the front was so tight.
Compare this to the so-called other jewel in motorsports, the 'Monaco driver parade', and boy this is epic.
to be fair, literally no f1 fans want monaco at all. The qualifying is amazing, but the race is a complete joke. The lap 1 red flag made it the worst ive ever watched.
@@mattv3237 agreed, Monaco is a cool setting, but consistently the worse race every season, yet somehow tracks like Spa need to fight for their spot on the calendar
Hold on the Le Mans 24 is pretty cool too but yeah Monaco parade is boring
@@mattv3237 yes, it would be perfect if it came down to some sort of a time trial. But motor racing is impossible at Monaco now. Just look at how Russell, Tsunoda and Alonso managed to literally block the field without any fuss. That was painful to watch.
The cars are too long and too wide for a comparatively narrow surface.People say ovals are boring but there are multiple passing opportunities per lap and they go by pretty fast.
At Monaco it might take 4 laps to set up 1 pass.
This was an absolutely INSANE Indy 500. One of the best of the past few years. A lot of yellows, but the racing was terrific. Edge of my seat the entire time.

Not only Newgarden is an Indy 500 winner, he has won it twice in-a-row. That hasn't been done since Helio Castroneves in 2001 & 2002.
Yeah and he could become like Castroneves if he keeps winning the Indy 500 the way he has been.

Man, that finish left me thrilled and sad at the same time, I would have been happy with either Newgarden or O'Ward taking the win. So I'm stoked Newgarden won, but gutted for O'Ward.

First Indy 500 Ive ever watched. The racing was insanely good especially at the end. I thought it was going to be boring cause it’s an oval track.

He's special, and I'm sure will be back. He was running top 10, up to 6th for much of the time even with the restart mistakes. Give him a full season in a good ride and lookout.

Larson was getting better and aggresive as the race went on. soon as he slide those tires, i knew it was over. I dont think this will be the last we see Larson at indy.

This was the first time I watched a Indycar race and it was excited!!!
Last year, he finally won the greatest spectacle in racing in his 13th try after 12 years of frustration. This time, he just became a new clubber in his own right, joining Castroneves in a back-to-back win wall
Im a huge F1 fan but i gotta say, this was exactly the kind of racing excitement i needed after the absolute snoozefest of the Monaco GP, monacos always boring but this year’s race was the most boring by far

Awesome Safety Crews. They're at the disabled car almost as soon as it stops.
For fat guys they move pretty quick.
Dr Gary Hartstein who replaced the legendary Prof Sid Watkins as the FIA/F1 top Dr said Indycar has the best safety team on the planet. He tried to implement a full time team into F1 but it was shut down on cost/liability grounds. Today F1 has said the Dr in the Medical Car is only allowed to oversee local licensed emergency Doctors are following FIA protocol. It's a joke.
@@tedzehnder961 They're all qualified EMTs and Firefighters, chubby yes but they're pro as it gets and they're paid to be there unlike a volunteer with a weekend course and a fire extinguisher.
