    The Quadrajet guy the driver was talking about was Brad Urban. Brad owned the Carburetor shop in Ontario,California. We used Brad right up until the time he died. The 604 we ran liked 32 to a max of 36 degrees. Thanks for the video Daniel.

      I shot Motortrend an email..I didn't know Daniel was his name, till now..told them about Powell Machine Inc., A man that has a Utube channel, from S.C.
      I told them that they need some new content and what he has going on is a whole lot more relevant to more people than some of the stuff we're now having to watch reruns of.
      I encourage anybody reading this to pass the word and encourage others to contact Motortrend and tell'em they can do better.

    Cool video... Gives a great depiction of what it takes to get a race car going, as well as the basic dynamics of the crew and people around the car. I could definitely hear the difference in the engine as it came around the track. It is funny, most people won't hear or feel the difference in the car. I have always been able to tell when car/truck wants something different, or feel the simple heart beat of the engine to time what you are doing: shifting up or down, burnouts, aggressiveness of accelerator pedal through the RPM range, etc. Good content. Thanks. 🏎💨

    Thanks for these style videos. I was always taught that you can’t read our plugs properly/accurately due to the idle circuit. Especially on the 604. The only way for us to properly read the plugs is to the kill the motor at the end of the lap and roll onto the pits in neutral. You also need to put the new ones in while the engine was hot especially if plan on testing and reading them after the run. I was also under the impression by most data and independent builders recommendations is that the NGK was superior for the 604 application. You are right though I’ve never seen anyone running a 604 or circle track carb without the multiple adjustable emulsion bleeds or tapped and modified blocks. But that’s won’t dirt track guys and rules. VDL is a good. Arb but they aren’t as notable in the dirt scene these days.

    • @powellmachineinc3179
      @powellmachineinc3179  3 місяці тому

    Only the big boys knew how to “read” plugs.
    We always just set them like the factory said to.
    Couldn’t and wouldn’t race the 300hp 327.

    We run 32-34* on our 604 Dirt Late Model w/ AvGas. 39* seems excessive with the fast burning 604 heads. Any dyno numbers to validate ideal timing on that engine?

      Did you catch what I said at the end?

      I did. I asked the question at the time I heard the driver say 39*. But you only said the engine came alive. I’m wondering about the peak HP & peak torque developed at 39* vs what you backed it down to.

      @briancarlisi2224 the dyno idiot had it at 40, we pulled it back to 36 and the lap times were better, I explain why the dyno made better #'s at hi timing
