True, most of the time. I disagree on some of his analyses regarding religion but I also acknowledge that I may not understand the reasons behind his arguments. It confused me when he claimed that atheists think they're not religious but they really are.
Part of that is his over-analysis on the definitions of the words he is discussing, which I think actually helps, because it's important to convey your own definition towards the one your having a conversation with so you can be on the same page on what you're talking about. If you don't convey these definitions, you end up with people taking you out of context.
People who disagree with you will do that anyway, and that generates significant problems towards the principle of civil discussion. Hence mainstream media.

      13gi0n Word salad

    • @saveit4thefridge
      @saveit4thefridge 6 років тому +7

It’s not word salad simply because it using big technical phrases, (which it really isn’t). What is being said is a definition of a free society composed of by independent free thinking citizens. It is such an obvious simple proposition that one would think it’s not worth pointing out. Like saying a square has four sides. Yet clearly we need someone like Peterson to point out the obvious in a time where the Obvious is being loosely blurred and evaporated into pseudo-intellectual cultural Marxist jargon that rejects its own foundation. So yeah that’s why I’m eerily troubled by the media’s flippant use of the term “alt-right” when describing Peterson, and what he represents, and others that simply have different views than the mainstream media. Firstly, the term “alt right” has recently been propagated by the Left Mainstream Media and is conveniently and uniquely ill defined and for what it is, more vague sourcing, thinly vailed negative language, vacuous in substance. That’s real word sausage ;)

      New RisingSun
It's a clear glass of water to me. The hilarious paradox of this existence is that the truth is simple, yet cannot be spoken. I find he uses words effectively to allude to the deeper meanings that underlie (and often elude) our thinky little minds. It's more poetry than a "confused or unintelligible mixture of seemingly random words and phrases". The entheogens are useful tools because they speak to us directly without all the fumbly words. In the end, everything basically boils down to, "Don't be a dick".

I think the idea behind this is that "The sun does not measure its light by the shadow that is cast... so we shouldn't be focusing on the shadow we cast but on the light we emanate". Too often I am over concerned with the shadow that I am casting, the external manifestations of my being and how they are likely to be interpreted by those I wish to relate to/exist with. Instead of aiming at being the best possible person I can be I can easily get too concerned with how I think others are likely to interpret what I do and therefore orientated myself towards pleasing others and becoming a slave to the reactions of others. Just my thoughts on this. Happy to hear other thoughts/interpretations on this.

Ive been listening to Jordan Peterson have the same conversation for years now. But with different people (sometimes the same people at a different time) (often it's the exact same conversation that I'm listening to for the who knows how manyth time) . It's great.
Now I find myself going out and having something resembling my best approximation of that conversation, not intentionally, with others and myself. Very important conversations I think.
This is my introduction to Aubrey Marcus. Happy to be introduced. Which is another great part of it. Introductions to new people. Both in teh Internets and in my own life.

Peterson never fails to deliver. He's very much like Sam Harris in the sense that they use a simple vocabulary, but still manage to describe complex problems in a very accurate and relatable manner.
It's like when you hear them talk they say things you've always felt but you've never been able to form in a cohesive thought.
Obviously they have a very different way of thinking about things. Peterson looks at the world through the lense of his human mind and psychology while Harris circumvents that to look at things in a way that's as objective and steril as possible.
Pretty interesting how two people who have studied the exact same thing in the human brain, yet they come to a totally different understanding of the world.
Well that's not completely true, maybe it's not so different, but they just express themselves in different languages.

So, by Peterson's (apparent) definition, when I left the church and 'faith', I actually *became* religious. Taking responsibility for myself, for my thoughts and actions, using my own intellect honestly seems to be the very essence of spirituality. Man, this cold drink of water these thoughts are providing are so refreshing!

Scrolling through the comments to find if anybody got annoyed at that as well. If you see Peterson with Rogan, Rogan talks it's not like he's completely silenced, but he does it periodically when Peterson finishes his thoughts. THIS guy is like constantly interrupting Peterson as to rephrase what Peterson was about to say, but in his own words. Feels like he's furthering his agenda, he's not trying to learn but to reassure himself of what he thinks he knows.
That's fucking annoying. I watch anywhere Peterson is, but this guy I don't like because of this behavior..

He's a good friend and business partner of Joe Rogan. His company, Onnit, got its start when Aubrey asked Joe what kind of supplement he would most want. Joe told him he really wanted a good nootropic, Aubrey did the work and made AlphaBrain, company blew up, and now Aubrey's the CEO of a wildly successful company, of which Rogan owns a large share. Aubrey released a book back in April, which was my introduction to him, and it exceeded all my expectations. Big love for this man. Never would have expected to see him interviewing my man JP though, it's like all my Christmases at once.

9:43 "You need to decide at some point in your life whether you're more in love with what you know or what you don't know, and people tend to be in love with what they know because you don't want to have that shaken and challenged and it's not surprising, but the problem with that is that you don't know enough unless everything is going perfectly for you and everything around you, you set in order, perfectly, it's like your ignorance outweighs your knowledge, it's like you should make friends with what you don't know."

After a month-long room cleaning overhaul, my productivity and overall outlook on life have drastically improved in incredible unpredictable ways I didnt know were posible. These guys are awesome people to be around, they have a playfulness about them and their fun loving spirit is uplifting.
Me however, I am surrounded by drama on a daily basis. I manage this with my upbeat tempo and positive attitude. This eventually rubs off on others, but for short periods of time until they revert back to what they are most familiar with, which is negativity and drama. If I do not keep my playful fun loving spirit in tact day-to-day, the drama and negativity will be an intense shit storm that perpetuates into a energy draining nothingness.
I often find myself wanting to get on a plane and go very far away, for a very long time, where nobody will know my whereabouts.

A typical amazing comment by Jordan in speaking with Aubrey about truth - "The Devil is met at the crossroad. Where else would you meet him?" Absolutely. He lurks in those moments of decisions to be made which are painful and seemingly not in your favor but need to be made. And then further down the road the devil was defeated by that hard decision and now you are experiencing freedom and empowerment. So crossroads are a chance to leap way ahead into your better self.
